Interference Mitigation For Ir-Uwb Ad-Hoc Wpan Based On Chip Decision Rake Receiver, Saleh M., Natiq A. Ali Dec 2008

Interference Mitigation For Ir-Uwb Ad-Hoc Wpan Based On Chip Decision Rake Receiver, Saleh M., Natiq A. Ali

Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering

Impulse radio ultra wideband (IRI-UWB) communication is becoming an important technology for future wire less Personal Area Networks (WPANs). A critical challenge in IR-UWB system design is multi-user interference (MUI). A RAKE receiver is proposed to mitigate the MUI that occurs in some ad-hoc networks like WPAN for IR-UWB system where concurrent transmission are allowed without power control. The proposed RAKE receiver is shown to contribute to a mitigation of multiple access interference (MAI) especially at medium input bit energy –to-noise ratio (Eb/No) values and small number of RAKE taps (fingers). This receiver is based on chip decision after maximum …

Response Of Imitanib Meysylate In Patients With Gastrointestinal Stromal Cell Tumour, Abdullah Ladha, Mohammad Usman Shaikh Dec 2008

Response Of Imitanib Meysylate In Patients With Gastrointestinal Stromal Cell Tumour, Abdullah Ladha, Mohammad Usman Shaikh

Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

In this study, the response of Imitanib Mesylate in patients with Gastro-intestinal stromal cell tumour (GIST) was assessed. GIST results from a mutation in one of the receptor protein tyrosine kinases. Imitanib Mesylate, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, has emerged as a promising new treatment for GISTs. Total 16 cases were reviewed. Diagnosis was based on biopsy and immunohistochemistry. Response assessment was done using CT scans, at a median duration of 4 months. The median age of the patients was 52 years, Majority were male (n=14). Most common presenting complaint was abdominal pain (n=7). Commonest primary site was stomach (n=7), Liver …

Anthropod Community Associated With The Webs Of The Subsocial Spider Anelosimus Studiosus, Sarah Natalie Mock Dec 2008

Anthropod Community Associated With The Webs Of The Subsocial Spider Anelosimus Studiosus, Sarah Natalie Mock

College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations

Anelosimus studiosus (Theridiidae) is a subsocial spider that has a diverse arthropod fauna associated with its webs. From south Georgia, I identified 1006 arthropods representing 105 species living with A. studiosus, and 40 species that were prey items from 250 webs. The arthropods seen in A. studiosus webs represented a distinct community from the arthropods on the tree. I found that Barronopsis barrowsi (Agelenidae) and Frontinella pyramitela was similar to A. studiosus in web structure and that B. barrowsi webs contained multiple arthropods. Also, previously known as asocial, B. barrowsi demonstrated sociality in having multiple adults per web. Lastly, the …

Comparison Of Invasive And Non-Invasive Techniques For Measuring Fiddler Crab Density In A Salt Marsh, Charles Robert Hubbard Dec 2008

Comparison Of Invasive And Non-Invasive Techniques For Measuring Fiddler Crab Density In A Salt Marsh, Charles Robert Hubbard

College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations

Quantifying the density of burrowing crabs is challenging, and several techniques have been developed to accomplish it, including burrow counting, visual surveys of surface-active crabs, and substrate excavation. These techniques have been compared in mangrove forests but not in a salt marsh, nor has anyone attempted to excavate traps repeatedly for multiple days. Previous comparisons have not examined these techniques over the course of several months, nor considered the cost and precision associated with each technique. Therefore, from May of 2007 to April 2008, I conducted burrow, visual, single excavation, and repeated excavation surveys to estimate Uca pugnax density in …

The main focus initially is to define what agile is and what the principle concepts that are the driving force behind it. Some of these concepts are about shaping the mentality of a developer so that a developer can be the most efficient and effective developer. …

Development Of Regression Tree For Processing Satellite Images, Indrani Kommareddy

Masters Theses & Doctoral Dissertations

Satellite images are used more and more to analyze global tree and forest cover change. It is also extensively used in modeling the climatic change. These are becoming very important tools for the policy makers to discuss treaties and policies for global climatic change. Geographic Information System Center of Excellence (GIScCE) at South Dakota State University has become leader in development of such information (products). It extensive contracts with various world organizations is a testament to their work in this area. Hence it has become imperative that they would be able to analyze satellite images and provide the products in …

An Examination Of Nba Mvp Voting Behavior: Does Race Matter?, B. Jay Coleman, J Michael Dumond, Allen K. Lynch Dec 2008

An Examination Of Nba Mvp Voting Behavior: Does Race Matter?, B. Jay Coleman, J Michael Dumond, Allen K. Lynch

Management Faculty Publications

The selection process of the most valuable player (MVP) in the National Basketball Association (NBA) was recently questioned as to whether African-American players were treated unfairly based on their race. Using NBA voting data from the 1995-2005 seasons, we develop two empirical models in order to examine the role that a player’s race plays in the determination of this award. Our estimates imply that after controlling for player, team, and market characteristics, there is no statistically significant effect of race on the likelihood that a player will appear on an MVP ballot or on the number of votes he will …

High School Boys' Basketball And The Social Structure Of Suburban, Rural, And Urban High School Communities : A Comparative Case Study., Jason K. Miller Dec 2008

High School Boys' Basketball And The Social Structure Of Suburban, Rural, And Urban High School Communities : A Comparative Case Study., Jason K. Miller

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study examined the relationship between high school boys' basketball and the social structure of a suburban, rural, and urban high school in the lower Midwest. These schools surround a metropolitan area of approximately one million people. The researcher used interviews, observations, and mining of documents to collect data. The study answered four research questions. The first question addressed the social structure of the three schools. Each school contained a group associated with sport participation called "jock" or "athlete." The second research question examined how boys' basketball participation affected social group membership and the associated positive and negative aspects. At …

Viscoelastic Properties Of Pediatric Blood, Neema Nair 1983- Dec 2008

Viscoelastic Properties Of Pediatric Blood, Neema Nair 1983-

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The performance of pediatric circulatory support devices depends on the properties of pediatric blood. This study reports the measurement of the viscoelastic properties of pediatric blood at 37°C [body temperature]. The results were compared with adult viscoelastic properties at the same temperature and also to pediatric viscoelastic properties analyzed at 22°C [room temperature]. The measurements were made using a viscoelasticity analyzer Vilastic-3 on the blood at the hematocrit at which it was drawn. Each test produced results for viscoelastic parameters versus shear rate [stretch test] at a frequency of 2 Hz. Samples were obtained with informed consent from 11 pediatric …

During his thirty year reign in Malawi Kamuzu Banda built a state mythology and ideology of development based on constructions of gender and ethnicity that promised no future and little economic change for the majority of the population. The social structures that were established created patterns and processes that continue, a decade after Banda’s death, to organize social and cultural life.
