Theoretical Determination Of Subcritical Sequent Depths For Complete And Incomplete Hydraulic Jumps In Closed Conduits Of Any Shape, Nathan John Lowe Dec 2008

Theoretical Determination Of Subcritical Sequent Depths For Complete And Incomplete Hydraulic Jumps In Closed Conduits Of Any Shape, Nathan John Lowe

Theses and Dissertations

In order to predict hydraulic jump characteristics for channel design, the jump height may be determined by calculating the subcritical sequent depth from momentum theory. In closed conduits, however, outlet submergence may fill the conduit entirely before the expected sequent depth is reached. This is called an incomplete or pressure jump (as opposed to a complete or free-surface jump), because pressure flow conditions prevail downstream. Since the momentum equation involves terms for the top width, area, and centroid of flow, the subcritical sequent depth is a function of the conduit shape in addition to the upstream depth and Froude number. …

Who Could Best Complement A Team Of Family Business Researchers—Scholars Down The Hall Or In Another Building?, Alex Stewart Dec 2008

Who Could Best Complement A Team Of Family Business Researchers—Scholars Down The Hall Or In Another Building?, Alex Stewart

Management Faculty Research and Publications

This study explores which fields might potentially collaborate in family business research. It compares 14 research fields for their structure of topical attention. The most convenient collaborations, such as those between entrepreneurship, family business, and strategy researchers, prove to be the most appropriate for some research purposes. However, less common collaborations, particularly with scholars from law, history, and anthropology, appear to be the most appropriate for other projects. Family and marital therapy prove to be a less promising collaborator than one might expect because of their strong skewing to familial rather than commercial topics. Correspondingly, entrepreneurship also proves to be …

The 2007 Nebraska Nest Report, Wayne J. Mollhoff Dec 2008

The 2007 Nebraska Nest Report, Wayne J. Mollhoff

Nebraska Bird Review

Rains returned to most of the state this breeding season, with the notable exception of almost the entire Panhandle and the western Sandhills, where the 8-year drought continues. In the western Sandhills some early rains began to restore water levels in the potholes and lakes, but levels fell again as the summer wore on. While recovering water levels in much of the Rainwater Basin brought renewed breeding activity by at least some of the marsh and water birds, continued dry conditions in the western Sandhills curtailed breeding by many water bird species there, with reduced or no breeding by grebes …

Analyzing The Effect Of Hurricanes On Structure And Growth In Southeast Texas Forests, Christopher M. Gentry Dec 2008

Analyzing The Effect Of Hurricanes On Structure And Growth In Southeast Texas Forests, Christopher M. Gentry

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Hurricanes are a relatively common occurrence along the gulf coast of Texas. This research analyzed the effect hurricanes have on the growth and structure of forests in southeastem_Texas. Increment cores were taken from numerous species within the Neches Bottom Unit of the Big Thicket National Preserve and the Wier Woods Nature Preserve to analyze how hurricanes affect the structure of these forests. In the Turkey Creek Unit of the Big Thicket National Preserve and in the Angelina National Forest, Pi nus palustris (Longleaf pine) and P. taeda (Loblolly pine) was sampled in order to analyze how hurricanes affect the growth …

Eye Movement, Rem Sleep And Adhd: An Examination Of Eye Movement Patterns During Rem Sleep In Adhd Populations, Elin Marie Grissom Dec 2008

Eye Movement, Rem Sleep And Adhd: An Examination Of Eye Movement Patterns During Rem Sleep In Adhd Populations, Elin Marie Grissom

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The current study investigates differences in patterns of eye movement and sleep architecture during REM stage sleep in children with a diagnosis of ADHD, compared to those without the diagnosis. Existing studies have found differences in eye movement patterns during waking hours in these two groups (Munoz, Armstrong, Hampton, & Moore, 2003; O'Laughlin, Brubaker, Gay, Deans, & Aaron, 2006) as well as differences in patterns of REM sleep. The current study will focus on the fine structure of eye movement in REM in children with and without ADHD. Using pediatric polysomnographic recordings, the frequency, density, strength, and inferred direction of …
