A system and method for detecting and identifying electronic devices based on their unintended electromagnetic emissions (“UEE”) signals is presented. During device classification, UEE signals are measured from a plurality of test devices and characteristic data is obtained from the UEE signal emitted from each test device. Using the characteristic data, a threshold value and ideal pulse template can be determined for each test device and stored in a memory. Mobile elements have created structural variation in the human genome through their de novo insertions and post-insertional genomic rearrangements. L1 elements are a type of long interspersed element (LINE) that is dispersed at high copy numbers within most mammalian genomes. To determine the magnitude of L1 recombination-associated deletions (L1RADs), we computationally extracted L1RAD candidates by comparing the human and chimpanzee genomes and verified each of the L1RAD events by using wet-bench analyses. Through these analyses, we identified 73 human-specific L1RAD events that occurred subsequent to the divergence of the human and chimpanzee lineages. Despite their low frequency, the L1RAD events …

Maria Zarate was born in Paracho, Michoacán, México. Her father worked as a bracero in the United States. At a young age her father pasted away, for this reason she started working with her brothers caring for animal and planting seeds. At an age of twenty, she married for the first time. One year later, her husband passed away. Eight years later she married a second time only to take care of her second husband’s daughters. To delay evolution of insect resistance to transgenic crops producing Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) toxins, nearby ‘‘refuges’’ of host plants not producing Bt toxins are required in many regions. Such refuges are expected to be most effective in slowing resistance when the toxin concentration in Bt crops is high enough to kill all or nearly all insects heterozygous for resistance. However, Bt corn, Zea mays, introduced recently does not meet this ‘‘high-dose’’ criterion for control of western corn rootworm (WCR), Diabrotica virgifera virgifera. Lattice N=1 super-Yang-Mills theory formulated using Ginsparg-Wilson fermions provides a rigorous non-perturbative definition of the continuum theory that requires no fine-tuning as the lattice spacing is reduced to zero. Domain wall fermions are one explicit scheme for achieving this and using them we have performed large-scale Monte Carlo simulations of the theory for gauge group SU(2). We have measured the gaugino condensate, static potential, Creutz ratios and residual mass for several values of the domain wall separation L_s, four-dimensional lattice volume, and two values of the gauge coupling. With this data we are able to extrapolate the gaugino condensate to …

The present invention describes nano-scale fabrication technique used to create a sub-micron wide gap across the center conductor of a coplanar waveguide transmission line configured in a fixed-fixed beam arrangement, resulting in a pair of opposing cantilever beams that comprise an electro-mechanical switch. Accordingly, a nanometer-scale mechanical switch with very high switching speed and low actuation voltage has been developed. This switch is intended primarily for application in the RF/microwave/wireless industry.

Background: This study employed various monitoring methods to assess the impact of repeated rounds of mass drug administration (MDA) on bancroftian filariasis in Papua New Guinea, which has the largest filariasis problem in the Pacific region.

Methodology/Principal Findings: Residents of rural villages near Madang were studied prior to and one year after each of three rounds of MDA with diethylcarbamazine plus albendazole administered per World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. The mean MDA compliance rate was 72.9%. Three rounds of MDA decreased microfilaremia rates (Mf, 1 ml night blood by filter) from 18.6% pre-MDA to 1.3% after the third MDA (a …

This paper considers a high efficiency energy management control strategy for a hybrid fuel cell vehicle. The proposed switching architecture consists of a bank of neural network based controllers designed using statistical learning theory. The use of different power sources and the presence of different constraints make the power management problem highly nonlinear. Probabilistic and statistical learning methods are used to design the weights of a neural network and the switching strategy is used to implement different controllers designed on the considered operative conditions. In this paper, the problem of robust filter design for time-varying discrete-time polytopic systems with bounded rates of variation is investigated. The design conditions are obtained by using a parameter-dependent Lyapunov function and the Finsler's Lemma. A robust filter, that minimizes an upper bound to the H? performance of the estimation error, is obtained as the solution of an optimization problem. A more precise geometric representation of the parameter time variation was used in order to obtain less conservative design conditions.
