Rural Crime And Policing In American Indian Communities, L. Edward Wells, David N. Falcone

While people in rural places generally have less crime, American Indians and communities are an anomaly, by sufferingfrom unusually high rates of criminal victimization despite being predominantly rural.One element with thisheightened vulnerability to crime is the historic under-policing of Indian reservations and communities. This paper examines the policing of Indian communities, first by tracing the historical development of Indian tribal police in the United States overthe past two centuries, which shapes the legal-social context for presentday Indian police agencies. Japan is undoubtedly one of the foremost economic powers in the world and is internationally recognized as a democratic leader among modern nations. The economy's rapid growth in the mid-twentieth century has been attributed to its booming technical industries, including its electronic and automobile industries. However, Japan is unique in that it has retained traditions associated with typically less advanced nations-namely, a regressive human rights agenda. On March 4, 2005, a car carrying Nicola Calipari and Andrea Carpani, members of the Italian Ministry of Intelligence, and Giuliana Sgrena, a journalist who had been taken hostage one month before and who had just been released and was on her way back to Italy, was traveling to the Baghdad Airport. The car was fired on by US forces from a checkpoint, killing Mr. Calipari and wounding Ms. Sgrena and Mr. Carpani. As a result of this tragic event, a joint investigation occurred and but Italy and the United States could not agree on the results. The United States …

This thesis is a historiographical study concerning the strategic bombing campaign of Germany during World War II. The study questions how effective the campaign was in comparing the prewar theories to wartime practices. Secondly, it questions the morality of the bombings and how and why bombing techniques changed throughout the course of the war. Lastly, the study looks at a recent topic in the historic community, which is the question of remembrance and Germans as victims of the war.

This thesis tries to explain why the Taiwanese have postponed several critical defense plans for seven years while China's threat toward Taiwan is increasing year by year. Many observers and scholars relate the deadlock over arms procurement in Taiwan to domestic political struggles since the DPP is not the majority party in the Legislative Yuan and opposition parties, such as the Kuomintang (KMT) and the People First Party (PFP), have repeatedly boycotted President Chen Shui-bian's policies. We propose a model for using firewall log entries of denied inbound Internet traffic for indirect discovery of local IP addresses that have security problems. This method is used successfully to discover two computers on the network of Southern Illinois University which were infected with malicious feral software, as well as two more IP addresses on the university network with other security problems.

The legal and ethical protections afforded human subjects of research afford individuals who participate in research certain rights. Potential participants must give voluntary and informed consent to participate, they have the right to withdraw from research, they cannot be asked to waive certain rights, and they have the right to choose which studies they will participate in. But researchers, institutions, patient advocacy groups, and ethicists continue to debate how these rules should be applied in the context of genetics research—projects that involve using the individual's tissue or the individual's genetic information, such as gene sequences, and associated medical information.
