Change-Point Problem And Regression: An Annotated Bibliography, Ahmad Khodadadi, Masoud Asgharian Nov 2008

Change-Point Problem And Regression: An Annotated Bibliography, Ahmad Khodadadi, Masoud Asgharian

COBRA Preprint Series

The problems of identifying changes at unknown times and of estimating the location of changes in stochastic processes are referred to as "the change-point problem" or, in the Eastern literature, as "disorder".

The change-point problem, first introduced in the quality control context, has since developed into a fundamental problem in the areas of statistical control theory, stationarity of a stochastic process, estimation of the current position of a time series, testing and estimation of change in the patterns of a regression model, and most recently in the comparison and matching of DNA sequences in microarray data analysis.

Numerous methodological approaches …

Lasers That Operate Independently Of Temperature., Michael Bass, Brian Brickeen, Stephan Fahr, John Koroschetz, Alexandra Rapaport

UCF Patents

Apparatus, methods, systems and devices for providing a temperature independent laser by determining a temperature dependence of a lasing wavelength, selecting the lasing wavelength having minimal temperature dependence and constraining the lasing wavelength of the laser device to the selected lasing wavelength. In an embodiment, a volumetric Bragg grating in photo-thermal refractive glass is used as a laser cavity mirror for constraining the laser emission at the selected wavelength. The laser device may be a broad spectrum laser such as an Er.sup.3+ doped glass broad spectrum laser. In an embodiment, the lasers are operated where the temperature dependence of the …

N,N’-Bis(3,5-Di-T-Butylsalicylideneimine) Propanediamine And Its Some Tetradentate Schiff Base Complexes Synthesis, Characterization And Thermal Study, Fatih Dogan, M. Ulusoy, O. F. Ozturk, I. Kaya, B. Salih

Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Several mononuclear Co (II), Ni (II), Cu (II) and Fe (II) complexes of tetradentate salpren-type diamine, obtained from 3,5-di-tert–butyl-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 1,3-diaminopropane have been prepared and characterized by analytical, spectroscopic (FTIR, UV-Vis) techniques, magnetic susceptibility measurements and thermogravimetric analyses (TG). The thermodynamic and thermal properties of complexes have been investigated. For further characterization direct insertion probe-mass spectrometry (DIP-MS) was used and the fragmentation pattern and also stability of the ions were evaluated. The characterization of the end products of the decomposition was achieved by X-ray diffraction. The thermal stabilities of metal complexes of N,N’-bis(3,5-di-t-butylsalicylideneimine) propane diamine ligand (L) were found as …

Angiogenic Potential Of Human Macrophages On Electrospun Bioresorbable Vascular Grafts, Koyal Garg Nov 2008

Angiogenic Potential Of Human Macrophages On Electrospun Bioresorbable Vascular Grafts, Koyal Garg

Theses and Dissertations

The aim of this study was to investigate macrophage interactions with electrospun scaffolds and quantify the expression of vital angiogenic growth factors in vitro. This study will further help in evaluating the potential of these electrospun constructs as vascular grafts for tissue repair and regeneration in situ. Human peripheral blood macrophages were seeded in serum free media on electrospun (10 mm) discs of polydioxanone (PDO), elastin and PDO:elastin blends (50:50, 70:30 and 90:10). The growth factor secretion was analyzed by ELISA. Macrophages produced high levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and acidic fibroblast growth factor (aFGF). Transforming growth factor …

A Locally Divergence-Free Interior Penalty Method For Two-Dimensional Curl-Curl Problems, Susanne C. Brenner, Fengyan Li, Li Yeng Sung Nov 2008

A Locally Divergence-Free Interior Penalty Method For Two-Dimensional Curl-Curl Problems, Susanne C. Brenner, Fengyan Li, Li Yeng Sung

Faculty Publications

An interior penalty method for certain two-dimensional curl-curl problems is investigated in this paper. This method computes the divergence-free part of the solution using locally divergence-free discontinuous P vector fields on graded meshes. It has optimal order convergence (up to an arbitrarily small e) for the source problem and the eigenproblem. Results of numerical experiments that corroborate the theoretical results are also presented. © 2008 Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. 1

Optimal Pruned K-Nearest Neighbors: Op-Knn - Application To Financial Modeling, Q. Yu, A. Sorjamaa, Y. Miche, Amaury Lendasse, Eric Séverin, A. Guillen, F. Mateo

Engineering Management and Systems Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

The Paper Proposes a Methodology Called OO-KNN, Which Builds a One Hidden-Layer Feedforward Neural Network, using Nearest Neighbors Neurons with Extremely Small Computational Time. the Main Strategy is to Select the Most Relevant Variables Beforehand, Then to Build the Model using KNN Kernels. Multi response Sparse Regression (MRSR) is Used as the Second Step in Order to Rank Each Kth Nearest Neighbor and Finally as a Third Step Leave-One-Out Estimation is Used to Select the Number of Neighbors and to Estimate the Generalization Performances. This New Methodology is Tested on a Toy Example and is Applied to Financial Modeling. © …
