Type I Error Rates Of The Kenward-Roger F-Test For A Split-Plot Design With Missing Values And Non-Normal Data, Miguel A. Padilla, Youngkyoung Min, Guili Zhang

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

The Type I error of the Kenward-Roger (KR) F-test was assessed through a simulation study for a between- by within-subjects split-plot design with non-normal ignorable missing data. The KR-test for the between- and within-subjects main effect was robust under all simulation variables investigated and when the data were missing completely at random (MCAR). This continued to hold for the between-subjects main effect when data were missing at random (MAR). For the interaction, the KR F-test performed fairly well at controlling Type I under MCAR and the simulation variables investigated. However, under MAR, the KR F-test for the …

Social, housing, and economic data can easily be obtained from the bureau’s website (www.census.gov). Image Analyses Of Two Crustacean Exoskeletons And Implications Of The Exoskeletal Microstructure On The Mechanical Behavior, Liang Cheng, Liyun Wang, Anette M. Karlsson

The microstructures of exoskeletons from Homarus americanus (American lobster) and Callinectes sapidus (Atlantic blue crab) were investigated to elucidate the mechanical behavior of such biological composites. Image analyses of the cross-sectioned exoskeletons showed that the two species each have three well-defined regions across the cuticle thickness where the two innermost regions (exocuticle and endocuticle) are load bearing. These regions consist of mineralized chitin fibers aligned in layers, where a gradual rotation of the fiber orientation of the layers results in repeating stacks. We report a new approach of 2D regional correlation analysis capable of analyzing fluctuation dynamics of complex multiple correlated and anticorrelated fluctuations under a noncorrelated noise background. Using this new method, by changing and scanning the start time and end time along a pair of fluctuation trajectories, we are able to map out any defined segments along the fluctuation trajectories and determine whether they are correlated, anticorrelated, or noncorrelated; after which, a cross-correlation analysis can be applied for each specific segment to obtain a detailed fluctuation dynamics analysis. Mounting research suggests that children with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) and other clinical diagnoses demonstrate a higher prevalence of sleep problems than typically-developing children. Additionally, sleep problems are related to a number of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral concerns in pediatric populations. Limited research exists comparing sleep problems in children with ASDs with sleep problems in other clinical populations, or exploring the length of these sleep problems.

Several studies have confirmed that higher plant community richness facilitates greater arthropod community richness. The purpose of this study is to examine how plant community structure in continuous forest and light gaps impact soil arthropod community structure. In this study plant surveys were conducted for twenty plots, ten located in continuous forest and ten located within a forest gap. Along with plant surveys, a soil sample from each plot was collected in order to obtain soil dwelling arthropods. This was the first study in Monteverde, Costa Rica to look at how the agricultural method used during the germination phase affects the productivity of a mature Coffea arabica. It was thought by local farmers that a plant germinated in the ground and then transplanted would have more fine root biomass than a plant that is germinated in a polybag and then transplanted. Traditional farming practices have shown that when coffee is transplanted from the ground to another location; the main root is often cut, yielding more secondary fine roots. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are present in all known plant and animal tissues and appear to be somewhat concentrated in the mammalian nervous system. Many different miRNA expression profiling platforms have been described. However, relatively little research has been published to establish the importance of 'upstream' variables in RNA isolation for neural miRNA expression profiling. We tested whether apparent changes in miRNA expression profiles may be associated with tissue processing, RNA isolation techniques, or different cell types in the sample. Knowledge of intercellular ice formation in cells embedded in an extra-cellular suspension is essential for effective design of freezing protocols. The presence of cell membrane causes super-cooling of the intra-cellular region, which nucleates at much lower temperatures than the surrounding extra-cellular space and is accompanied by the exothermic release of the latent heat. This is a dynamic process and causes thermal distortions in and around the cell where nucleation occurs. This article analyzes how the government's blame of the Posse Comitatus Act (PCA) for its late response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster was misplaced. In Part II, the author discusses the history of the Posse Comitatus Act, including a summary of some of its many judicial and congressional expansions. In Part III, the author applies the PCA to the Hurricane Katrina disaster to show that, under its proper application, the PCA does, in fact, permit the lawful use of the military for humanitarian purposes. This paper discuss multiple hypothesis testing by focusing on developing and applying computationally intensive techniques to achieve the goal of simultaneous tests for each spotID the null hypothesis of no association between the expression levels and the responses or covariates. The software provides features where the user controls the amount of data that can be used for analyzing. Background: The induction of chemokine secretion by fibroblasts is crucial for the migration of leukocytes into the parenchyma of the injured lung. Several bacterial products activate the lung’s structural as well as immune cells to produce pro inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. We report that elastase from Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PE) evokes IL-8 mRNA expression and protein secretion in nonmalignant culture of human lung fibroblasts by activating the receptor for epidermal growth factor (EGFR) and downstream mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) pathway. This phenomenon is of primary importance in agroecosystems, where the dynamics of repeated nutrient, pesticide, and herbicide amendment must be understood to achieve optimal yield.
