Exploring The Sources Of Turkish Pre-Service Chemistry Teachers’ Chemistry Self-Efficacy Beliefs, Esen Uzuntiryaki Jan 2008

Exploring The Sources Of Turkish Pre-Service Chemistry Teachers’ Chemistry Self-Efficacy Beliefs, Esen Uzuntiryaki

Australian Journal of Teacher Education

This study aimed to examine the underlying sources in developing chemistry self-efficacy beliefs of Turkish pre-service chemistry teachers. For this purpose, the College Chemistry Self-efficacy Scale (CCSS) was administered to 20 pre-service chemistry teachers. Then, phenomenological approach was employed and semi-structured interviews were conducted with five pre-service teachers selected based on their scores on the CCSS to identify the underlying sources. The emerging meanings and self-reported sources of participants’ chemistry self-efficacy beliefs were analysed according to Bandura’s sources of self-efficacy. Results indicated that mastery experiences were the major source of self-efficacy beliefs, supporting the tenets of social cognitive theory. Physiological …

Neuropsychological Functioning Of College Students With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Melanie Ann Nuszkowski Jan 2008

Neuropsychological Functioning Of College Students With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Melanie Ann Nuszkowski

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Individuals with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) often experience significant impairment in multiple life domains not only during childhood, but also throughout their adult lives. While there is no single litmus test for identifying ADHD, neuropsychological tests have been proposed as one means of enhancing identification of ADHD in adults. Theories of ADHD have suggested that deficits in executive functioning underlie the symptom appearance for ADHD; however, meta-analyses have suggested that non-executive functioning skills provide nearly equal discriminatory results. Given the increasing proportion of students with ADHD who are pursuing postsecondary education, the need for further research addressing the impact …

Is Congruence Dead? An Examination Of The Correlation Between Holland's Congruence And Job Satisfaction Using Improved Methodology., Shannon Marie Bowles Jan 2008

Is Congruence Dead? An Examination Of The Correlation Between Holland's Congruence And Job Satisfaction Using Improved Methodology., Shannon Marie Bowles

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Job satisfaction is considered to be the most important and frequently examined outcome variable in congruence research. The assumption that congruence results in job satisfaction is fundamental to Holland's theory; however, the empirical evidence predominantly indicates that the congruence - job satisfaction correlation is, at best, equivocal. There is a movement within vocational psychology that the congruence construct is “dead” as a viable theoretical concept and that the field should abandon Holland's theory. This idea does not exist without significant argument, however. It has been recognized widely that congruence has not fared better in the empirical research literature because methodological …

An Evaluation Of The Perceived Obstacles For Policy Officials Regulating The Post Harvest Treatment Of Raw Oysters To Control The Human Health Vibrio Vulnificus Problem, Amy Leah Oestringer Jan 2008

An Evaluation Of The Perceived Obstacles For Policy Officials Regulating The Post Harvest Treatment Of Raw Oysters To Control The Human Health Vibrio Vulnificus Problem, Amy Leah Oestringer

LSU Master's Theses

Vibrio vulnificus is the leading pathogen linked to seafood-associated deaths. This naturally occurring marine bacterium presents a human health risk when it is consumed in raw oysters. Hospitalization is necessary in 90 % Vibrio vulnificus illnesses and 40% end in death. (CDC) Several guidelines and regulations have been enacted to combat this human health issue, but have failed to reduce the steadily rising illness rate. Post-harvest processing requirements for raw oysters could be used to reduce illness rates. A survey was conducted to measure the perceived obstacles that regulators and industry representatives of the raw oyster industry face in policymaking …
