Social Reality And Philosophical Ideals In Transitional Justice, Jamie Rowen

Cardozo Public Law, Policy & Ethics Journal

The article argues that transitional justice mechanisms in post-conflict societies, such as Bosnia, often fail to establish legitimate authority because they neglect the crucial role of community building. It emphasizes that community is a prerequisite for legal authority and highlights the dialectical relationship between law and community, where each can shape the other. The case of Bosnia illustrates how the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the War Crimes Chamber (WCC) in Sarajevo have struggled to gain legitimacy due to their focus on procedural values over community engagement. The article advocates for a reoriented approach to transitional …

In Vitro Antimicrobial Activity Of Extracts Of Passiflora Edulis (Passifloraceae) And Sphaeranthus Indicus (Asteraceae), Asirvatham Doss, Pichai Anthoni Doss, Rangasamy Dhanabalan

Ethnobotanical Leaflets

The organic extracts of Passiflora edulis and Sphaeranthus indicus were evaluated for antimicrobial activity against clinically important bacteria, viz., Escherichia coli MTCC 443, Salmonella typhi MTCC 734, Staphylococus aureus MTCC 737, Bacillus subtilis, Streptococcus pyogens, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris, Aspergillus flavus, Pencillium restrictum, and Trichoderma viride. The in vitro antimicrobial activity was performed by agar disc diffusion method. Streptococcus pyogens was the most resistant bacterial strains against the methanol extracts.

Preliminary Phytochemical Screening And Antimalarial Studies Of Spathodea Campanulatum P. Beauv Leaf Extracts, Rangasamy Dhanabalan Et Al. Oct 2008

Preliminary Phytochemical Screening And Antimalarial Studies Of Spathodea Campanulatum P. Beauv Leaf Extracts, Rangasamy Dhanabalan Et Al.

Ethnobotanical Leaflets

Spathodea campanulata P. Beauv is extensively used in Indian traditional and folklore medicines to cure various human ailments. The preliminary phytochemical screening of the leaves revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, steroids and terpenoids. The organic leaf extracts of this species was evaluated for antimalarial activity against clinically isolated Plasmodium falciparum chloroquine-resistant and sensitive strains. The in vitro antimalarial activity was performed following schizont maturation inhibition assay, (SMI). The ethanol fraction exhibited very good antiplasmodial activity against both chloroquine sensitive and resistant Plasmodium falciparum isolates followed by the butanol and chloroform extracts.

Antimicrobial Properties And Phytochemical Constituents Of Rheo Discolor Hance., Varadarajan Parivuguna Et Al.

Ethnobotanical Leaflets

Rheo discolor Hance. is extensively used in Indian traditional and folklore medicines to cure various human ailments. The preliminary phytochemical screening of the leaves revealed the presence of Alkaloids, Flavonoids, Saponins, Tannins & Phenolic compounds, Cardiac glycoside and Terpenoids. In vitro antibacterial studies on the leaf extracts were carried out on eight medically important bacterial strains, including Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus citrus, Serratia sp., Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumonia, and Proteus vulgaris which were procured from Department of Microbiology, RVS Hospital, Sulur, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, using agar disc diffusion method. The results of our antibacterial assay revealed that the …

Phytochemical Investigation And Antibacterial Screening Of Ethanolic Leaf Extract Of Sapindus Emarginatus Vahl., M. Sathiya, K. Muthuchelian

Ethnobotanical Leaflets

Sapindus emarginatus Vahl. is extensively used in Indian traditional and folklore medicines to cure various human ailments. The preliminary phytochemical screening of the leaves revealed the presence of saponins, terpenoids, tannins, acids, flavonoids, cardiac glycosides and sugars. In vitro antibacterial studies on the ethanolic leaf extracts were carried out on ten medically important bacterial strains, including Salmonella typimurium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas sp., Staphylococcus epidermis, Micrococcus luteus, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococccus sp., and Bacillus subtilis, which were procured from the Microbial Type Cultrue and Collection, Chandigarh, India, using agar disc diffusion method. The bacterial strains were exposed to …

Medicinal Properties And Antimicrobial Activity Of Crotalaria Madurensis Var. Kurnoolica, L. Md. Bhakshu, K. Venkata Ratnam, R. R. Venkataraju

Ethnobotanical Leaflets

This paper deals with the antimicrobial and phytochemical studies of Crotalaria madurensis Wt. var. kurnoolica Ellis et Swaminathan. (Fabaceae), an endemic medicinal plant found in the forests of Nallamallias of Eastern Ghats of India. The ether and ethyl acetate extracts of the plant material exhibited a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity on human pathogenic microorganisms of six bacterial and two fungal strains. The minimum inhibitory concentrations were provided. The results were supported by phytochemical analysis.
