ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Xeroderma pigmentosa although it is autosomal recessive disease but it is not uncommon problem in a certain regions in Iraq. It is always associated with well known complications of the disease like malignancies and blindness. Zinc sulfate has been successfully used in treatment of basal cell carcinoma in a form of intralesional injection & topical solution. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of topical 20% zinc sulfate solution as a therapeutic and prophylactic agent in patients with xeroderma pigmentosa. Post Operative Effect Of Bupivacaine As Local Anesthesia In Abdominal Incisions, Safa M.Al-Obaidi

Iraqi Postgraduate Medical Journal

ABSTRACT: BACK GROUND: Pain after abdominal incisions is responsible for many postoperative problems, especially pulmonary and thromboembolic complications. Although many analgesic drugs are available yet they have to be given systemically to be effective with a real danger of respiratory depression. The use of local anesthetic drug infiltrated in the wound at the end of surgery is a logical solution .The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of local anesthesia in the control of postoperative pain METHODS: During the period January 2007 until December 2007 hundred and twelve patients had abdominal operations at Baghdad Teaching hospital .Patients …

Lymphocyte Predominance Hodgkin Lymphoma Clincopathological And Immunohistochemical Interpretations Using Cd15 And Cd20, Yarab Edresse Abdul-Qadir

Iraqi Postgraduate Medical Journal

SUMMARY: BACKGROUND: Hodgkin disease is a lymphoid tumor that accounts for less than (1%) of all DeNovo neoplasms occurring every year worldwide. OBJECTIVE: The aims of the study was to assess the expression of immunohistochemical markers namely (CD20,CD15) in malignant cells of Hodgkin's disease. METHODS: Over the period extending from (January 2006-March 2008), specimens form 31 cases of lymphocyte predominance Hodgkin lymphoma (Rye's classification) as formalin fixed, paraffin embedded tissue blocks from excisional lymph node biopsies. For each case, five representative sections were prepared. One stained with hematoxyline and eosine (HxE), and four other sections (on positively charged slides) prepared …

Causes Of Intestinal Obstruction In Erbil Teaching Hospital Province –North Of Iraq, Abdulqadir Maghded Zangana

Iraqi Postgraduate Medical Journal

ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Bowel obstructions are not uncommon should be suspected in any patient with persistent vomiting, distention, and abdominal pain because delayed diagnosis and treatment can have devastating consequences. Undiagnosed or improperly managed obstructions can lead to vascular compromise, which causes bowel ischemia, necrosis, perforation, sepsis, and death. OBJECTIVE: The object of this study is to focus attention on the causes of intestinal obstruction and the role of abdominal radiographs and imaging in the diagnosis and operative procedures undertaken. Setting: The study was conducted at the Department of Surgery, Erbil Teaching Hospital Erbil province (2.5 million populations) –Iraq, between years …

High-Resolution Surveys Along The Hot Spot–Affected Galapagos Spreading Center: 1. Distribution Of Hydrothermal Activity, Edward T. Baker, Rachel M. Haymon, Joseph A. Resing, Scott M. White, Sharon L. Walker, Ken C. Macdonald, Ko-Ichi Nakamura Sep 2008

High-Resolution Surveys Along The Hot Spot–Affected Galapagos Spreading Center: 1. Distribution Of Hydrothermal Activity, Edward T. Baker, Rachel M. Haymon, Joseph A. Resing, Scott M. White, Sharon L. Walker, Ken C. Macdonald, Ko-Ichi Nakamura

Faculty Publications

The spatial density of hydrothermal activity along most mid-ocean ridges is a robust linear function of spreading rate (or magmatic budget), but extreme crustal properties may alter this relationship. In 2005–2006 we tested the effect of thickened crust on hydrothermal activity using high-resolution mapping of plumes overlying the hot spot–affected Galapagos Spreading Center from 95o to 89o42'W (~560 km of ridge crest). Plume mapping discovered only two active, high-temperature vent fields, subsequently confirmed by camera tows, though strong plume evidence indicated minor venting from at least six other locations. Total plume incidence (ph), the fraction of ridge …

The Likely Impact Of Mandated Paid Sick And Family-Care Leave On The Economy And Economic Development Prospects Of The State Of Ohio, Edward W. Hill, Spence Christopher, Daila Shimek, Ziona Austrian

All Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs Publications

This report analyzes the potential impact of a proposed paid sick and family care leave legislation on the economy of the state of Ohio, the economic development prospects of the state and on the management of production processes that depend on highly integrate teams. The report also reviews the literature on the effect of mandated paid sick and family care leave on the industrial relations system—workplace performance and worker retention. Our analysis concludes that there would have been a net cost associated with the paid sick leave and family-care initiative proposed in Ohio with a lower bound estimate of $63.84 …

Minimally Invasive Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers Array For Biomedical Applications, Xiaoyang Cheng Sep 2008

Minimally Invasive Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers Array For Biomedical Applications, Xiaoyang Cheng

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

Ultrasound covers a broad range of applications from underwater exploration and nondestructive evaluation of materials to medical diagnosis and treatment. The ultrasonic transducer plays an important role in determining the resolution, sensitivity, as well as other critical diagnostic capabilities of an ultrasonic detection or imaging system. Currently piezoelectric ultrasonic transducers dominate the market. The device performance of the piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer in medical applications is limited by the material properties and related electrical and acoustic impedance match issues. The fabrication of piezoelectric transducer array requires meticulous handcrafting. It is difficult and expensive to fabricate densely populated piezoelectric array. The Capacitive …

Attachment And Bonding: Correlations Between Relationship And Anxiety Among Adult College Students, Ellen Witter Armbruster Sep 2008

Attachment And Bonding: Correlations Between Relationship And Anxiety Among Adult College Students, Ellen Witter Armbruster

Individual, Family, and Community Education ETDs

This study investigated the relationships between adult attachment style, memories of early bonding experiences, and five different types of anxiety. The participants were 201 undergraduate psychology students, whose attachment styles, early bonding memories, and tendency toward the five anxiety types were measured through the use of self-report instruments. Analyses were performed to address the three research questions: 1) What is the relationship between attachment style and quality of early interactions with caregivers?; 2) What is the relationship between tendency toward specific types of anxiety and attachment style?; and 3) What is the relationship between tendency toward specific types of anxiety …
