Involvement Of Mesolimbic D2 Receptors And Accumbal Dopamine Levels In The Reinstatement Of Cocaine Place Preferences In Developing Rats, Kimberly A. Badanich Oct 2008

Involvement Of Mesolimbic D2 Receptors And Accumbal Dopamine Levels In The Reinstatement Of Cocaine Place Preferences In Developing Rats, Kimberly A. Badanich

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Psychostimulant-induced reinstatement of place preferences have been used to investigate underlying physiological mechanisms mediating drug-seeking behavior in adolescent and adult rodents; however, it is still unclear how psychostimulant exposure during adolescence affects neuronal communication in the mesolimbic dopamine (DA) pathway and whether these changes would elicit enhanced drug-seeking behavior later in adulthood. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of intra-ventral tegmental area (VTA) or intra-nucleus accumbens septi (NAcc) DA D2 receptor antagonist infusions on cocaine-induced reinstatement of cocaine place conditioning in high and low responders for cocaine reward. Adolescent rats were exposed to cocaine place …

Resting Oxygen Consumption Rates In Divers Using Diver Propulsion Devices, Adam J. Smith Oct 2008

Resting Oxygen Consumption Rates In Divers Using Diver Propulsion Devices, Adam J. Smith

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The Marine Corps Systems Command documented mission requirements that cannot be met by current rebreathers. They need to extend dive times without compromising the stealth and compact design of existing devices. This can be accomplished by reducing the fresh gas flow rate. The current flow rate is adequate to support a diver in heavy work. However, the diver will be utilizing a Diver Propulsion Device (DPD) during a large portion of the mission in question. The assumption, then, is that this portion of the mission will not require "hard work". Thus, a new fresh gas flow rate can be established …

Identification And Characterization Of Genotype A And D Recombinant Hepatitis B Virus From Indian Chronic Hbv Isolates, Ranjit Chauhan

School of Medicine

To confirm the presence of recombination, full-length hepatitis B virus (HBV) from chronic patients was sequenced and analyzed.Full-length HBV genomes from 12 patients were amplified and sequenced in an automated sequencer. Phylogenetic analysis was carried out on full-length, Core and preS2/Surface regions using MEGA software. SimPlot Boot Scanning and amino acid sequence analysis were performed for confirmation of recombination.Eight patients were infected with genotype D strain; one patient with genotype A and three patients had genotype A and D recombination; two of them had cirrhosis and one had hepatocellular carcinoma. Phylogenetic analysis of core and preS2/surface regions separately showed …

Wow In China And The U.S.

China Beat Blog: Archive 2008-2012

World of Warcraft (WoW) is the most popular massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) ever created, with more than 10 million players worldwide—half of them in China. Before WoW launched in 2004, conventional wisdom placed the potential playerbase for MMOs numbering in the hundreds of thousands. WoW quickly broke those numbers, drawing in new gamers with its cartoonish graphics, tongue-in-cheek storylines, and mix of collaborative and solo player options. Stories on WoW in China a few years ago emphasized a phenomenon known as “gold farming”—sweatshop laborers in China playing the game to raise in-game currency to then sell for real …
