Revealing Your Sources: The Case For Non-Anonymous Gamete Donation, Michelle Dennison
Revealing Your Sources: The Case For Non-Anonymous Gamete Donation, Michelle Dennison
Journal of Law and Health
This article argues that both legislating the end of anonymous gamete donation and allowing current children of anonymous gamete donation the ability to access identifying information about their donors is in the best interests of all parties involved in the donation process. Recipient-parents and donor-conceived children will benefit from having increased access to their donor's health information. Records access, including access to a donor's identifying information, will help donor-conceived children avoid potential incest and what is sometimes termed in adoption cases "genealogical bewilderment." Finally, banning anonymous donation will give potential gamete donors the ability to make a truly informed decision …
Law Students Who Learn Differently: A Narrative Case Study Of Three Law Students With Attention Deficit Disorder (Add) , Leah M. Christensen
Law Students Who Learn Differently: A Narrative Case Study Of Three Law Students With Attention Deficit Disorder (Add) , Leah M. Christensen
Journal of Law and Health
More law students than ever before begin law school having been diagnosed with a learning disability. As legal educators, do we have an obligation to expand our teaching methodologies beyond the typical law student? What teaching methodologies work most effectively for law students with learning disabilities? The purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions of law students with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) about their law school experience. The case study yielded four themes relating to the social, learning and achievement domains of the students.First, law students with ADD experienced feelings of isolation in law school; second, the more …
Assessment Of Four Years Of Marsh Restoration At The Jones Farm Experimental Restoration Facility In Northeast Ohio: Water Quality, Plant Community Development, And Adaptive Management, Jake J. Grossman
Honors Papers
In order to characterize water quality, plant community diversity, and invasive species management at a restored wetland, I have analyzed data collected from June 2004 to August 2007 at the George Jones Memorial Farm in New Russia Township, Ohio. The Jones wetlands site is comprised of six emergent, herbaceous marshes that were restored on an old-field site in 2003. The six cells were constructed using a uniform physical restoration treatment, managed uniformly for invasive species, and replanted using three planting treatments. Each planting treatment was applied to two wetlands; treatments included two designer plantings of native taxa and one self-designing …
Connectedness To Nature And Electricity Consumption: An Interdisciplinary Study Of Behavior And Emotional Response To Nature In The Union Street Housing Complex, Jenna Trostle
Honors Papers
Much research has been done surrounding conservation behaviors in the household and electricity consumption. Most research has tended to focus on attitudes about the environment and how those attitudes influence pro-environmental behavior, but the research has not usually found a strong link between the two. The Connectedness to Nature Scale was used in this study to measure emotional responses to nature, and to determine whether people who felt more connected to nature used less electricity in the household. The residents of the Union Street Housing complex at Oberlin College were chosen as the group monitored for this project, as the …
The Impact Of Colleges On House Prices In Ohio, Graham Mathieu Johnson
The Impact Of Colleges On House Prices In Ohio, Graham Mathieu Johnson
Honors Papers
Using a hedonic pricing model, I estimated the effects of changes in college and university characteristics on house prices in three regions of Ohio. I used cross-sectional housing and census data for the year 2000, compiled by David M. Brasington of Louisiana State University, and college data from Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges 2001. I measured college and university impact within radii ranging from one to two miles around a campus admissions office, allowing for an investigation of how the impact of academic institutions changes with distance. I found that changes in campus size, undergraduate student population, graduate student population, …
Learning To Eat Appreciatively And Thoughtfully (Eat): Connecting With Food Through School Gardens, Lina A. Yamashita
Learning To Eat Appreciatively And Thoughtfully (Eat): Connecting With Food Through School Gardens, Lina A. Yamashita
Honors Papers
Many young people today do not learn to cook, or eat nutritious, regular meals together with their families, or go shopping for produce. Because of this, they do not have the opportunity to develop any real appreciation for food. To make matters worse, many public schools fail to teach students anything at all about the complex environmental and cultural history of food – how it is produced, preserved, prepared, and distributed. At the same time, schools serve lunches that often lack nutritional value. In this thesis, I argue the importance of giving students the opportunity to connect to food through …

Exploring Fuzzy Set Concept In Priority Theory For Maintenance Strategy Selection Problem, Rajesh S. Prabhu Gaonkar, A. K. Verma, A. Srividya
Exploring Fuzzy Set Concept In Priority Theory For Maintenance Strategy Selection Problem, Rajesh S. Prabhu Gaonkar, A. K. Verma, A. Srividya
International Journal of Applied Management and Technology
This paper proposes and presents a different approach of choosing an appropriate maintenance strategy using Saaty’s priority theory and fuzzy sets. As per the priority theory, weights are assigned to the decision criteria via pair wise comparison of criteria. Basic three types of maintenance strategies specifically corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance and predictive maintenance and eight maintenance decision criteria namely low maintenance cost, improved reliability, improved safety, high product quality, minimum inventory, return on investment, acceptance by labor, enhanced competitiveness have been considered to evaluate the most favorable strategy. Instead of usual practice of considering single value for “intensity of importance” …
Television Violence Prevention Versus Juvenile Violence Prevention: Any Connections In Parental Control?, Sharlette Kellum
Television Violence Prevention Versus Juvenile Violence Prevention: Any Connections In Parental Control?, Sharlette Kellum
Contemporary Issues in Juvenile Justice
Animated features, like children's cartoons, are considered by some to be the most violent shows on televi-sion, with approximately 25 to 50 acts of violence per hour (Dietz and Strasburger, 1991). Cartoons, unlike other shows that portray violence, present instances of violence to children in an "acceptable" way, which teaches children from zero to 17 years of age that hurting people is tolerable. Television violence has been linked to juvenile aggression, which has been linked to juvenile violence. In researching several studies, the author found that many of the preventions mentioned in the television violence studies were also mentioned in …
Why Parents Choose Catholic School: A Social Theory Understanding, John M. Schultz
Why Parents Choose Catholic School: A Social Theory Understanding, John M. Schultz
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Catholic schools in the United States are at a critical juncture. The Catholic bishops speak as if parents choose a Catholic school mainly because of the spiritual mission of the school. But what are the real reasons that parents choose Catholic school for their children? Current research provides no social or religious understanding of the phenomenon of school choice.
Research Questions and hypotheses
As the title indicates, the purpose of this study is to investigate the real reasons that parents choose Catholic school for their children as understood by using a social theory model and as influenced by many forces …
Reliability Of Urinary Bladder Pressure Measurement In Critical Care, Melanie Horbal Shuster
Reliability Of Urinary Bladder Pressure Measurement In Critical Care, Melanie Horbal Shuster
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Background of the study: Intra abdominal pressure (IAP) theoretically may be a predictor of enteral nutrition tolerance (EN). Urinary bladder pressure (UBP) is the gold standard for estimating IAP. Current recommendations for UBP measurement (UBPM) calls for the instillation of normal sterile saline (NSS) into the bladder while the patient is supine with a zero degree (0°) head of bed elevation (HOBE). How different instill volumes (IVs) and body positions influence UBPM were unknown, and the intra- and inter-observer reliability had not been adequately investigated.
Specific aims: 1) Systematically evaluate the relative contribution of bladder IV and subject's position upon …
