Évaluation De La Coordination Des Muscles Dorso-Lombaires Chez Des Gens Présentant Une Lombalgie : Une Base De Données Revisitée, Christian Larivière, David Mcfadden, A. Bertrand Arsenault, Thierry Petitjean-Roget

Un Nouveau Test D’Aide Au Diagnostic Et À L’Évaluation De L’Asthme Professionnel : L’Expectoration Induite, Catherine Lemière, Karim Maghni

This Dissertation describes studies conducted in three areas dealing with the interaction of redox-active compounds with the flavin- and heme- containing enzyme, neuronal nitric oxide synthase (NOS). They are as follows:

I. Studies were initiated using extracts from several varieties of tobacco to identify constituent(s) that could interact with nNOS. Results from [14C]-L-arginine to [14C]-L-citrulline conversion assays to which tobacco extracts were individually added, indicate that there are nNOS inhibitors present in tobacco and they are non-polar, lipophilic and non-volatile in nature. In addition, results from assays in which the tobacco-derived redox-active compound, 2,3,6- …

New Paradigm Christianity And Commitment-Formation: The Case Of Hope Filipino (Singapore), Jayeel Cornelio

Development Studies Faculty Publications

What does religion mean to the individual? How are people religious and what do their beliefs, practices and identities mean to them? The individual's place within studies of religion has tended to be overlooked recently in favour of macro analyses. Religion and the Individual draws together authors from around the world to explore belief, practice and identity. Using original case studies and other work firmly placed in the empirical, contributors discuss what religious belief means to the individual. They examine how people embody what religion means to them through practice, considering the different meanings that people attach to religion and …

Impact Of Stressing A Pen Mate On Physiological Responses Of Growing Pigs, Brent Koonce, Elizabeth B. Kegley, Doug Galloway, Jason Apple

Discovery, The Student Journal of Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences

Crossbred barrows and gilts (n = 36), weighing 16.59 ± 2.1 kg, were used to test the effects of stressing a pen mate on the physiological responses of growing pigs. Pigs were randomly allotted to 6 groups after stratifying according to gender, litter origin, and body weight. Dominance order was determined within each group, and 1 to 3 d prior to the stress treatment the most- and least-dominant pigs within a group were fitted with indwelling catheters in their vena cavas. Over 3 d, groups were either: 1) isolated from audile and visual contact with stressed pigs in a separate …

Ethnic Differentials In Parental Health Seeking For Childhood Illness In Vietnam, Bussarawan Teerawichitchainan, James F. Phillips Jan 2008

Ethnic Differentials In Parental Health Seeking For Childhood Illness In Vietnam, Bussarawan Teerawichitchainan, James F. Phillips

Research Collection School of Social Sciences

Vietnam's sustained investment in primary healthcare since the onset of socialism has lowered infant and childhood mortality rates and improved life expectancy, exceeding progress achieved in other poor countries with comparable levels of income per capita. The recent introduction of user fees for primary healthcare services has generated concern that economic policies may have adversely affected health-seeking behavior and health outcomes of the poor, particularly among impoverished families who are members of socially marginalized minority groups. This paper examines this debate by analyzing parental recall of illness and care-seeking for sick children under the age of 5 years recorded by …

Using Biosolids To Enhance Phytoremediation Of Oil-Contaminated Soil, Heather N. Markway, Duane C. Wolf, Kaaron J. Davis, Edward E. Gbur

Discovery, The Student Journal of Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences

While the plant rhizosphere and associated microbial processes have been shown to amplify the degradation rate of chemical residues in soils, phytoremediation can be a slow process. The objective of this greenhouse study was to determine if the addition of biosolids as an organic soil amendment would enhance growth of plants in oil-contaminated soil and thus potentially increase effectiveness of phytoremediation. Pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.) or sudangrass (Sorghum sudanense (Piper) Stapf (Piper)) was grown in a Captina silt loam (finesilty, siliceous, mesic Typic Fragiudults) contaminated with 5% crude oil (v/w) and amended with 24 g biosolids/kg soil. …

Chicago Journal of International Law

On August 20 and 21, 2007, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, US President George W. Bush, and Mexican President Felipe Calder6n met in Montebello, Quebec to discuss the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America ("SPP"), a trilateral initiative that has as its objective enhanced regulatory cooperation between the three North American states in order to improve continental security and regional competitiveness. Despite being described in prosaic terms by government officials and industry supporters as a primarily technical exercise, the SPP has attracted trenchant criticism across the political spectrum. The SPP has been described variously as "integration by stealth," the …

Global Integration And The Complete Public Goods, Sungjoon Cho

Chicago Journal of International Law

This Article unfolds as follows: Section II first situates RTAs against the backdrop of the global trading system in an effort to bring out RTAs' global implications. Section III highlights certain negative effects of RTAs on nonmembers and the global trading system, and demonstrates how the club goods of regional trade may turn into public bads. In particular, this Section describes three aspects of negative externalities that RTAs may occasion: negative externalities to the global trading system as a whole, those to individual economic players (global businesspeople) within the system, and those to poor nations. In order to address these …

The Wto And Biofuels: The Possibility Of Unilateral Sustainability Requirements, Enrique Rene De Vera Jan 2008

The Wto And Biofuels: The Possibility Of Unilateral Sustainability Requirements, Enrique Rene De Vera

Chicago Journal of International Law

This Development introduces the international legal issues raised by increasing trade in biofuels. Section II of the Development surveys the current biofuel landscape, providing statistics on the use and trade of biofuels, and discusses the prospect for increased production and trade in biofuels. Section III discusses the concept of sustainability-particularly in the context of biofuel production-as well as WTO treatment of past efforts to regulate trade based on environmental concerns. In conclusion, Section IV argues that current WTO jurisprudence leaves open the possibility that WTO members may rightfully discriminate against unsustainably produced biofuels.
