Culture Learning In Spanish Companion Book Websites: An Analysis Of Tasks, Angela Cresswell Nov 2008

Culture Learning In Spanish Companion Book Websites: An Analysis Of Tasks, Angela Cresswell

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The Internet with its World Wide Web feature opened up a whole new frontier for language-culture learning that foreign language textbook authors have integrated into their programs. Designing tasks that progress beyond promoting learners' passive consumerism and reiteration of facts remains a goal and a challenge. Thus, three research questions characterized this study that sought to examine the on-line tasks associated with six current Spanish textbook programs. The design focused on an analysis of these tasks in light of prevailing culture learning concepts and other pedagogical paradigms posited by reputable foreign language educators to determine if they filled the gap …

Health And Behavioral Problems Associated With Symptoms Of Pediatric Sleep Disorders, Rachel B. French Nov 2008

Health And Behavioral Problems Associated With Symptoms Of Pediatric Sleep Disorders, Rachel B. French

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to examine prevalence rates of symptoms of several sleep disorders in young children, and the relationship between symptoms of pediatric sleep disorders and other childhood problems. Two-hundred-seventy-six children aged 2 to 5 years were studied through examination of a pre-existing database. Children rated as high risk for having a sleep disorder displayed significantly more aggressive behavior and attention problems, as compared to children whose sleep was rated in the normal range. However, no relationship was found between symptoms of sleep disorders and body mass index, asthma, or allergies. In addition, no relationship was found …

2008 Oregon Harvest Report, Oregon Wine Board

Oregon Wine Board Documents

This harvest report for the Oregon wine industry from 2008 discusses how a cool growing season led to a dry and mild harvest. According to the report, the late harvest and lower yields brought about mature and complex flavors, translating to a vintage with good potential for high quality. The report also includes four-region comparative data prepared by climatologist Dr. Greg Jones.

Redox-Triggered Contents Release From Liposomes, Winston Ong, Yuming Yang, Angela C. Cruciano, Robin L. Mccarley Nov 2008

Redox-Triggered Contents Release From Liposomes, Winston Ong, Yuming Yang, Angela C. Cruciano, Robin L. Mccarley

Faculty Publications

An exciting new direction in responsive liposome research is endogenous triggering of liposomal payload release by overexpressed enzyme activity in affected tissues and offers the unique possibility of active and site-specific release. Bringing to fruition the fully expected capabilities of this new class of triggered liposomal delivery system requires a collection of liposome systems that respond to different upregulated enzymes; however, a relatively small number currently exist. Here we show that stable, ∼100 nm diameter liposomes can be made from previously unreported quinone-dioleoyl phosphatidylethanolamine (Q-DOPE) lipids, and complete payload release (quenched fluorescent dye) from Q-DOPE liposomes occurs upon their redox …
