The Influence Of Pre-Retirement Planning On Adjustment To And Satisfaction With Retirement, Jyotsna Paintal

Theses Digitization Project

This study extends the findings of Elder and Rudolph by predicting that thinking about retirement and the attendance at planning meetings are positively related to both reitrement satisfaction and adjustment. As a result, this study examined the relationship between the predictor variables of formal and informal planning with the criterion variables of retirement satisfaction and retirement adjustment using archival data from the first wave (1992) of the nationally representative Health and Retirement Study (HRS). In addition, this study examined whether length of retirement moderates the relationship between formal and informal planning and retirement satisfaction and retirement adjustment.

Ebsco’S Communication & Mass Media Complete: An Appreciable Improvement Over Previous Communication Studies Indexing?, David C. Tyler, Signe Boudreau, Katharine C. Potter, Misty Redinbaugh

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries: Faculty Publications

In a prior edition of this study, we examined whether the established online communication studies indexes—Communication Abstracts, ComIndex, and ComAbstracts—provided a good avenue of access to the journal literature that researchers in the field cite and whether, where the current journal literature was concerned, that avenue of access might be equal or superior to that provided by large, multisubject online indexes. In this iteration of the study, we similarly address EBSCO’s new product for communication studies, Communication & Mass Media Complete.

Scholarship and Professional Work – COPHS

Objectives—Numerous studies have documented disparities in health care utilization between non-Hispanic White and minority elders. We investigated differences in anti-dementia medication use between non-Hispanic White and minority community-dwelling Medicare beneficiaries with dementia.

Methods—Using multivariate analysis with generalized estimating equations, we estimated prevalence ratios (PRs) for anti-dementia medication use by race/ethnicity for 1,120 beneficiaries with dementia from years 2001 through 2003 of the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey.

Results—After adjusting for demographics, socioeconomics, health care access and utilization, comorbidities, and service year, we found that anti-dementia medication use was approximately 30% higher among non-Hispanic Whites compared to other racial/ethnic groups (PR = …

Kinesiology and Physical Education Faculty Publications

ABSTRACT. Background. This project assessed the relationship between home care quality indicators HCQIs) and agency characteristics. Methods. Twelve agencies completed a mailed survey on a variety of characteristics, including size of their caseload and for-profit (FP) status of contracted service providers. The HCQIs were derived from standardized assessments completed voluntarily for home care clients in Ontario and in Manitoba, Canada. Results. The average caseload was 121.3 clients per case manager, and over 40% of nursing, personal support and therapy providers were considered FP. For individual HCQIs, few correlations were statistically significant. An overall summary measure of quality was …

Digitized Theses

Six community-dwelling able older adults, aged seventy to eighty-five years, collaborated with the researcher as elder co-researchers in this participatory action research project. With the goal of increasing awareness about the experience of growing old and living in old age, the research team investigated the question: What can elders teach about the experience of growing old? Meeting weekly for eighteen weeks of discussion and written reflection, the research team members reported an experience of personal transformation in the way that they had come to understand and value their own aging process. Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences

OBJECTIVE: Alcoholism is a risk factor for osteoporotic fractures and low bone density, but the effects of moderate alcohol consumption on bone are unknown. We performed a systematic review and metaanalysis to assess the associations between alcohol consumption and osteoporotic fractures, bone density and bone density loss over time, bone response to estrogen replacement, and bone remodeling.
METHODS: MEDLINE, Current Contents, PsychINFO, and Cochrane Libraries were searched for studies published before May 14, 2007. We assessed quality using the internal validity criteria of the US Preventive Services Task Force.
RESULTS: We pooled effect sizes for 2 specific outcomes (hip fracture …
