Real-Time Automatic Price Prediction For Ebay Online Trading, Ilya Igorevitch Raykhel Nov 2008

Real-Time Automatic Price Prediction For Ebay Online Trading, Ilya Igorevitch Raykhel

Theses and Dissertations

While Machine Learning is one of the most popular research areas in Computer Science, there are still only a few deployed applications intended for use by the general public. We have developed an exemplary application that can be directly applied to eBay trading. Our system predicts how much an item would sell for on eBay based on that item's attributes. We ran our experiments on the eBay laptop category, with prior trades used as training data. The system implements a feature-weighted k-Nearest Neighbor algorithm, using genetic algorithms to determine feature weights. Our results demonstrate an average prediction error of 16%; …

Satisfaction Among Expectant Mothers With Antenatal Care Services In The Musandam Region Of Oman, Mohammed Ghobashi, Rajiv Khandekar Nov 2008

Satisfaction Among Expectant Mothers With Antenatal Care Services In The Musandam Region Of Oman, Mohammed Ghobashi, Rajiv Khandekar

Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal

Objectives: As client feedback is useful to improve health service delivery, assessments should be undertaken periodically. This study aimed to determine the level of satisfaction among expectant mothers visiting health institutions for antenatal care services in the Ministry of Health, Musandam region of Oman in 2005. Methods: This was a cross sectional survey in a hospital setup. Women registered in the antenatal clinics of different health institutions of Musandam region were interviewed. Arabic speaking investigators in six health institutions of Musandum region collected personal profiles, details of different antenatal services offered and responses regarding the satisfaction with these services. Impact Of Geographical Proximity On Health Care Seeking Behaviour In Northern Oman, Ahmed Al-Mandhari, Samir Al-Adawi, Ibrahim Al-Shafaee, Mohammed, Liyam Eloul Nov 2008

Impact Of Geographical Proximity On Health Care Seeking Behaviour In Northern Oman, Ahmed Al-Mandhari, Samir Al-Adawi, Ibrahim Al-Shafaee, Mohammed, Liyam Eloul

Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal

Objectives: Despite its impact on health policy, the relationship between geographical proximity and health care seeking has received scant attention in the medical literature. This paper aims to evaluate the relationship between geographic proximity and health care usage behaviour among patients seeking medical consultation in the northern region of Oman. Methods: During 2006- 2007, data was collected via face-to-face interviews among 428 randomized patients seeking medical consultation in various primary health care centres in the northern region of Oman. The association between geographical proximity as a reason to seek health care and other predictors was also analysed using multivariable logistic …

Delineating The Jurassic To Mid Cretaceous Part Of The Pacific Apparent Polar Wander Path, Dcp Masalu Nov 2008

Delineating The Jurassic To Mid Cretaceous Part Of The Pacific Apparent Polar Wander Path, Dcp Masalu

Tanzania Journal of Science

The Jurassic to Mid-Cretaceous apparent polar wander path of the Pacific plate irrespective of ages have been delineated. Two poles have been established: one pole, which is relatively older than the other, is at 75.01°N/287.5°E (α = 6.9°) and the other pole is at  61.0°N°/304.7°E (!95 = 4.5°). These results indicate that the Pacific plate drifted southward during the Jurassic to Early-Cretaceous period. Additionally, the results demonstrate that there is an apparent consistent correspondence between changes of plate motion and significant shifts of the Jurassic to Mid-Cretaceous apparent polar wander path

Contact Lens Induced Corneal Ulcer Management In A Tertiary Eye Unit In Oman - A Descriptive Study, Rikin Shah, Manali Shah, Rajiv Al-Raisi, Abdulatif

Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal

Objectives: The corneal disease is a priority problem in Oman. We present patients with contact lens (CL) induced severe keratitis, admitted in the corneal unit of Al Nahdha Hospital in Oman. Methods: The study was conducted in 2005-2006. Ophthalmologists examined the eyes using slit lamp bio-microscope. Visual acuity was noted using Snellen’s distance vision chart. Specimens of corneal scraping and CLs were sent for culture and sensitivity tests. Patients with severe keratitis were admitted and treated with medicines. Corneal and visual statuses were noted at the time of discharge from hospital and after six weeks. Numbers, percentages and their 95% …

Thermo-Mineral Waters From The Cerna Valley Basin (Romania), Ioan Povara, Georgel Simion, Constantin Marin Nov 2008

Thermo-Mineral Waters From The Cerna Valley Basin (Romania), Ioan Povara, Georgel Simion, Constantin Marin

Studia UBB Geologia

In the south-west of the Southern Carpathians, upstream from the confluence of Cerna with Belareca, an aquifer complex has developed, strongly influenced by hydrogeothermal phenomena, acting within two major geological structures, the Cerna Syncline and the Cerna Graben. The complex consists mainly in Jurassic and Cretaceous carbonate rocks, as well as in the upper part of the Cerna Granite, highly fractured, tectonically sunken into the graben. As a result of the tectonic processes which occurred after the end of the Jurassic-Cretaceous sedimentation cycle, limestones may be encountered at 1100 m altitude in the Mehedinţi Mountains, at 150 ¬¬600 m in …

Making The Grade: Authentic Assessment Through Music Portfolios, Kendra June S. Aylor Nov 2008

Making The Grade: Authentic Assessment Through Music Portfolios, Kendra June S. Aylor

Theses & Honors Papers

Research shows assessment is an important part of education. However, information on assessment in music is often limited to secondary education leaving elementary music teachers to devise their own systems of evaluation students. This teacher research addresses elementary music assessment by examining the implementation of student portfolios as a way to manage the data that is created in the music classroom. The portfolios were compiled using fourth grade student work which was divided into section that mirror the MENC National Standards. This research shows that student portfolios provide tangible evidence of student understanding to be shared with teachers, parents, and …

Synthesis Of The Lifepo4 By Co Reduction: Reaction Mechanism And Kinetics, Yun-Hua Chen, Yong Yang

Journal of Electrochemistry

LiFePO4 cathode material was synthesized by CO reducing FePO4 and LiOH precursors. The structure, morphology and electrochemical performances of such LiFePO4 material were characterized by XRD,SEM and charge-discharge tests. It was shown that the particle size of the LiFePO4 synthesized with 5% excess of LiOH in the precursor was about 200 nm.By carbon coating, the LiFePO4 electrode was able to deliver a reversible capacity of 158 mAh·g-1 at 0.1C discharge rate.Temperature-programmed X-ray diffraction was employed to monitor the reaction during the formation of LiFePO4,and Li3Fe2(PO4)3 was found to be …

Incorporating Spatial Data And Gis To Improve Sea Of Land Use Plans: Opportunities And Limitations: Case Studies In The Republic Of Ireland, Ainhoa Gonzalez Del Campo

Doctoral

This research aimed at establishing whether spatial data and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can contribute to Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). To achieve this, an integrated GISEA approach was developed and applied to a number of spatial planning SEAs in the Republic of Ireland. The practical applicability of the approach was examined, evaluating the potential benefits derived from using spatial data and GIS in SEA and assessing the potential barriers to an effective GIS use. The implementation of the SEA Directive incorporated a new dimension into plan-making by calling for the assessment of potential environmental effects that may derive from implementing …
