Historical Assessment And Archeological Survey Of 4.9 Miles Of Fm 2092 From Menard To Fivemile Crossing, Menard County, Texas, Jennifer K. Mcwilliams, Douglas K. Boyd, Celine Finney

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

This preliminary report describes historical research and an intensive archeological survey conducted for a 4.9-mile-long stretch of FM 2092 in Menard County by Prewitt and Associates, Inc. The work was performed for the Texas Department of Transportation in conjunction with a road improvement project beginning at the eastern Menard city limit and extending eastward to just beyond Fivemile Crossing. Crossing over Pleistocene and Holocene alluvial terraces of the San Saba River, the project area is located in a high-probability area for buried prehistoric sites and has a dynamic history of intensive use since Spanish colonial times. Investigations included geoarcheological mapping, …

Indistinguishability Limit For Off-Axis Vortex Beams In Uniaxaial Crystals, T. Fadeyeva, Yu. Egorov, A. Rubass

Articles

The circular polarization components of a vortex beam in a uniaxial crystal exhibit complex propagation characteristics. We demonstrate how the amount of splitting may be distinguished by use of a vortex beam. We predict and experimentally verify a threshold angle subtending the crystal and beam axes, below which the splitting is indistinguishable.

Identifiability And Estimation Of Causal Effects In Randomized Trials With Noncompliance And Completely Non-Ignorable Missing-Data, Hua Chen, Zhi Geng, Xiao-Hua Zhou Nov 2007

Identifiability And Estimation Of Causal Effects In Randomized Trials With Noncompliance And Completely Non-Ignorable Missing-Data, Hua Chen, Zhi Geng, Xiao-Hua Zhou

UW Biostatistics Working Paper Series

In this paper we first studied parameter identifiability in randomized clinical trials with noncompliance and missing outcomes. We showed that under certain conditions the parameters of interest were identifiable even under different types of completely non-ignorable missing data, that is, the missing mechanism depends on the outcome. We then derived their maximum likelihood (ML) and moment estimators and evaluated their finite-sample properties in simulation studies in terms of bias, efficiency and robustness. Our sensitive analysis showed the assumed non-ignorable missing- data model had an important impact on the estimated complier average causal effect (CACE) parameter. Our new method provides some new …

Transforming A Region Into A Vibrant Entrepreneurial Economy: How To Create The Multiplier Effect, Knowledge@Smu

Knowledge@SMU

Sankaran Venkataraman is business administration professor at the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Virginia, and visiting professor of entrepreneurship and business at the Singapore Management University. At a recent seminar in Singapore, Venkataraman explored the question, “What does it take for a nascent entrepreneurial region to create the multiplier effect necessary to transform itself into a vibrant entrepreneurial economy?” In his view, institutional specialisation, division of labour, the architecture of entrepreneurial sub-systems and intangible cultures all play critical roles.

Michael Schaper On Small Businesses: Unravelling Popular Myths About Their Value And Viability, Knowledge@Smu

Knowledge@SMU

Small businesses typically account for more than 95% of all private sector entities and employ more than half the workforce in some countries, reveals a study by Michael Schaper, dean of the Murdoch University Business School in Australia. Speaking at the Singapore Management University’s UOB-SMU Enterprise Alliance Centre recently, Schaper dismantled some common misconceptions about the value and profiles of small businesses and their owners.

Global Sourcing Model Helps Companies Optimise Benefits From Free Trade Agreements, Knowledge@Smu Nov 2007

Global Sourcing Model Helps Companies Optimise Benefits From Free Trade Agreements, Knowledge@Smu

Knowledge@SMU

As FTAs (Free Trade Agreements) proliferate, companies increasingly face difficult decisions about where to source for components and set up manufacturing bases so as to benefit from FTAs. Brian Rodrigues, professor of operations management at the Singapore Management University, and management sciences professors Li Yanzhi and Andrew Lim at the City University of Hong Kong, have developed an easy to use algorithm which helps companies do just that.
