An Evaluation Of A Low-Cost Uav Approach To Noxious Weed Mapping, Brandon Tyler Jones Nov 2007

An Evaluation Of A Low-Cost Uav Approach To Noxious Weed Mapping, Brandon Tyler Jones

Theses and Dissertations

Mapping their location and extent is a critical step in noxious weed management. One of the most common methods of mapping noxious weeds is to walk the perimeter of each patch with a handheld GPS receiver. This is the method used at Camp Williams, a National Guard Bureau training facility in Utah where this study was conducted. It was proposed that a low-cost Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) that made use of a hobbyist remote control airplane equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver and digital camera could be used along with automated post-processing techniques to reduce the cost of …

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy For Children Diagnosed With Reactive Attachment Disorder, Demetria Soulounias-Arriaga Nov 2007

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy For Children Diagnosed With Reactive Attachment Disorder, Demetria Soulounias-Arriaga

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy is a probably efficacious, evidenced-based

treatment, which has been proven to decrease problem behaviors of children, as well as

improve parent-child interactions. The first phase is the Child-Directed Interaction (CDI),

which allows the child to lead the play session, while parents are taught to interact

without giving demands, asking questions, or providing criticism. According to the

DSM-IV-TR, Reactive Attachment Disorder is a rare diagnosis. Many attachment

therapists indicate that traditional approaches to treatment have not been demonstrated as

being effective with these children. This study will examine the CDI phase of Parent-

Child Interaction Therapy as a …

The Ecology Of Translocated Greater Sage-Grouse In Strawberry Valley, Utah, Rick Joseph Baxter Nov 2007

The Ecology Of Translocated Greater Sage-Grouse In Strawberry Valley, Utah, Rick Joseph Baxter

Theses and Dissertations

Manuscript No. 1 Translocations of greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) have been attempted in 7 states and one Canadian province with very little success. To recover a small remnant population and test the efficacy of sage-grouse translocations, we captured and transported 137 adult female sage-grouse from 2 source populations to a release site in Strawberry Valley, Utah during March-April 2003-2005. The resident population of sage-grouse in Strawberry Valley was approximately 150 breeding birds prior to the release. We radiomarked each female and documented survival, movements, reproductive effort, flocking with resident grouse, and lek attendance. We used Program MARK to calculate annual …

System And Method For Characterizing And Simulating A Frequency Translation Device, Jiang Liu, Terje Borge Svensen, Lawrence P. Dunleavy

USF Patents

The present invention is a system and method of characterizing and simulating frequency translation devices. By supplying a stimulus condition as input to the frequency translation device, measurements of the intermodulation products in the output spectrum can be obtained. The measurements include both sum intermodulation products and difference intermodulation products. An index file is established to enable the extraction of the intermodulation products dependent upon a requested simulation response.

Fast Response Liquid Crystal Mode, Shin-Tson Wu, Wing Choi Nov 2007

Fast Response Liquid Crystal Mode, Shin-Tson Wu, Wing Choi

UCF Patents

A novel nematic liquid crystal (LC) mode is based on the Fringing-Field-Switching of Vertically-Aligned liquid crystals. The VA-FFS mode is capable of generating very fast optical modulation without the use of very thin cell gap. IA major feature of this LC mode is that it has unusual fast relaxation time compared with the conventional nematic LC modes that require a thin cell gap. This fast relaxation occurs even at very low applied voltages and the operation is very stable. The fast-response mechanism of this LC mode involves the confinement of liquid crystal molecular switching within self-imposed thin LC layers. The …

Pornography Viewing As Attachment Trauma In Pair-Bond Relationships-A Theoretical Model Of Mechanisms., Spencer T. Zitzman

Theses and Dissertations

Online sexual activities, including pornography use, have drastically increased in recent years. Many studies have examined the impact that pornography use can have on marriages and families. One of the key findings has been that pornography use can negatively impact trust in relationships. This study focused on understanding the mechanisms involved when a husband's pornography use negatively impacts his marital relationship and his wife's emotional well-being. Through qualitative analysis of interviews of 14 wives who received therapy because of their husband's pornography use, the analytic team found (1) a breakdown of expectations and assumptions central to the marriage, (2) a …

Assessing The Efficacy Of Field Training Officers’ Organizational Maturity And Their Decision To Utilize Communicative Competencies, Michael White

Masters Theses

The focus of this study was the examination of communication issues in the field of law enforcement in order determine what effect if any, an officers’ organizational maturity has on their decision to utilize verbal and or non-verbal communications when performing their job, especially when interacting with citizens.

The scope of this study is limited, as the research is only concerned with the opinions of patrol officers regarding their ability to effectively communicate verbally and non-verbally. In order to obtain patrol officer perspectives regarding this issue, and for convenience sake, a non-probability sample was established in which field training officers …

Tempo-Spatial Patterns Of Land Use Changes And Urban Development In Globalizing China: A Study Of Beijing, Yichun Xie, Chuanglin Fang, George C.S. Lin, Hongmian Gong, Biao Qiao Nov 2007

Tempo-Spatial Patterns Of Land Use Changes And Urban Development In Globalizing China: A Study Of Beijing, Yichun Xie, Chuanglin Fang, George C.S. Lin, Hongmian Gong, Biao Qiao

Publications and Research

This study examines the temporal and spatial changes in land use as a consequence of rapid urban development in the city of Beijing. Using a combination of techniques of remote sensing and GIS, the study identifies a substantial loss of plain dryland and a phenomenal expansion of urban construction land over the recent decade. Geographically, there is a clear shifting of urban construction land from the inner city to the outskirts as a consequence of suburbanization. The outward expansion of the ring-road system is found to be one of the most important driving forces explaining the temporal and spatial pattern …

Simpler Mode Of Inheritance Of Transcriptional Variation In Male Drosophila Melanogaster, Marta Wayne, Marina Telonis-Scott, Lisa Bono, Lawrence G. Harshman, Artyom Kopp, Sergey V. Nuzhdin, Lauren Mcintyre Nov 2007

Simpler Mode Of Inheritance Of Transcriptional Variation In Male Drosophila Melanogaster, Marta Wayne, Marina Telonis-Scott, Lisa Bono, Lawrence G. Harshman, Artyom Kopp, Sergey V. Nuzhdin, Lauren Mcintyre

Lawrence G. Harshman Publications

Sexual selection drives faster evolution in males. The X chromosome is potentially an important target for sexual selection, because hemizygosity in males permits accumulation of alleles, causing tradeoffs in fitness between sexes. Hemizygosity of the X could cause fundamentally different modes of inheritance between the sexes, with more additive variation in males and more nonadditive variation in females. Indeed, we find that genetic variation for the transcriptome is primarily additive in males but nonadditive in females. As expected, these differences are more pronounced on the X chromosome than the autosomes, but autosomal loci are also affected, possibly because of X-linked …

Measurement Of The Tt̅ Production Cross Section In Pp̅ Collisions At √S = 1.96 Tev Using Kinematic Characteristics Of Lepton + Jets Events, V. M. Abazov, Kenneth A. Bloom, Gregory R. Snow, D0 Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We present a measurement of the top quark pair production cross section in pp̅ collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV utilizing 425 pb-1 of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We consider the final state of the top quark pair containing one high-pT electron or muon and at least four jets. We exploit specific kinematic features of tt̅ events to extract the cross section. For a top quark mass of 175 GeV, we measure σ tt̅ = 6.4-1.2+1.3(stat) ± 0.7(syst) ± 0.4(lum) pb, in good agreement with the …
