A self-assembled ligand library (SAL XY) affords a wide range of R/S ratios in Rh-catalyzed asymmetric hydroboration (nbd = 2,5norbornadiene, R* is a chiral substituent). Ligand-scaffold optimization reveals “substrate-tailored” ligands that afford high regio- and enantioselectivity for a variety of ortho-substituted styrene derivatives.

He discusses the Southwest Florida Water Management District Agricultural Advisory Committee, water usage by agriculture, development and its effect on water usage, farming in urban areas, and the bias against farming. He also mentions the cost of gasoline effecting growth and the competitive process for water permits.

Beef ground under air and carbon dioxide (CO2) conditions were evaluated for their storage stability at 2 ± 1¼C starting after 2 days in the dark to simulate transportation, followed by 7 days in lighted display by measuring color (CIE L*, a*, b*, the hue and chroma), gas headspace, microbiological content, and pigment content. AC (ground in air then packaged in 100% CO2 MAP) and CC (ground in CO2 then packaged in 100% CO2 MAP) treatments showed the highest a* and chroma values from day 3 to 9 compared with AV (ground in air then vacuum packaged) and CV (ground …

A number of employers, business consortia, and public purchasers are promoting "value-based purchasing" as a way to improve the quality of patient care. Some purchasers are using publicly available information on health plan and provider performance to make their health plan and provider choices, while others are using their market power to drive improvements in patient care and safety. This article examines six key strategies used by purchasers.

In applied regression problems there is often sufficient data for accurate estimation, but standard parametric models do not accurately describe the source of the data, so associated uncertainty estimates are not reliable. We describe a simple Bayesian approach to inference in linear regression that recovers least-squares point estimates while providing correct uncertainty bounds by explicitly recognizing that standard modeling assumptions need not be valid. Our model-robust development parallels frequentist estimating equations and leads to intervals …

While it is generally assumed that economic growth will have a positive effect the vast majority of the population, this claim is often left unchallenged. In particular, the effect of economic growth on the low-income segment of the population is not well understood. In particular, it is not clear if 1) the poor benefit from economic growth, and if so 2) what is the size of the benefit? A growing number of studies have been devoted to answering these questions. This field of study is commonly known as the pro-poor growth literature.

OXFORD, Miss. - Some of the best shows in live entertainment are scheduled for spring 2008 at the University of Mississippi’s Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts. They include magic, opera, ballet and Broadway musicals - plus a frog and a toad. Of course, the Ford Center is not bringing a real frog and toad to its stage, but Oxford resident Allyson Best said her two little girls are "definitely looking forward to hopping and singing along" during the Broadway musical "A Year with Frog and Toad."

In this study, the dynamics of a fixed speed stall controlled 900 kW wind turbine connected to a 12.5 kV distribution line were modeled and verified with existing field data under start up conditions. Model components include the wind, the turbine rotor and generator, soft-start power electronics and controls, and the distribution grid. PSCAD/EMTDC (Power Systems Computer Aided Analysis and Design/Electromagnetic Transients including Direct Current) was the software platform used. In the final stages of the bacterial growth cycle, daughter cells must be released from one another by cleaving the shared peptidoglycan cell wall that separates them. Although enzymes capable of cleaving bonds in the murein sacculus are ubiquitous among the bacteria, the physiological roles of only a few of these enzymes are clear. The peptidoglycan-specific amidases play an important role in cleaving the septum to release daughter cells after cell division in Escherichia coli. E. coli has three amidases dedicated to this task: AmiA, AmiB and AmiC. These enzymes remove side chains from the peptidoglycan by hydrolyzing the bond …

From 1700 to 1731, Mary Davys wrote six novels, two plays, and a poem. These works reveal her abiding concern with gender relations, moral behavior, and social order. Davys's work is an articulate critique of social and sexual politics of late Stuart and early Hanoverian England. Few scholars have traced the development of her gender ideology and this aspect of her work remains underexamined. Also, the author's early years in Ireland have not been closely considered even as doing so illuminates the shaping of her world view. The use of information books in the preschool classroom, and the potential of the books and the learning activities associated with the books for promoting science among young children are explored. The research was first conducted with four children at a university children's center, and then replicated in a whole class setting at a college child development lab school in another state. The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions and experiences of parents and teachers regarding the social issues that adolescents with Asperger Syndrome (AS) encounter during their junior high school experience. This study provided insight into how the adolescent with AS is surviving socially and academically in the junior high world. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of two differing online study environments and goal orientation on student study behavior. A total of 390 students participated in this study, 195 students were in the Mastery condition and 195 were in the Study Questions condition. All students were enrolled in one of two sections of introduction to psychology. The condition that the student was assigned to was dependent on which section the student was enrolled.
