The syntheses and characterization of both tris(diethylamino)aluminum and tris(diisopropylamino)aluminum are presented in this letter. Characterization includes vapor pressure measurements and comparison of the two non-pyrophoric precursors showing them to be viable alternatives to trimethylaluminum. Ultimately, tris(diisopropyl)aluminum was successful in the atomic layer deposition of alumina thin films.

To begin with, although Daniels's work could be categorized as political science, part of this book's appeal is that it addresses what we historians might call a massive hole in the historiography--in this case, regarding men's health. In other words, we just do not know very much about this topic, nor do we know much about its history. Ironically, this dearth of knowledge stands in stark contrast to the wealth of information about the history of women's health--something that might seem a bit odd given the feminist argument that history has more often been about men than about women. A collaborative Russia-U.S. research program on western gray whales (Eschrichtius robustus) summering off northeastern Sakhalin Island, Russia, has been ongoing since 1995 and has produced important new information on the present day conservation status of this critically endangered population. This interim report reviews preliminary findings from 2007 research activities and combines such with data from previous years, in some cases ranging back to 1994. Photo-identification research conducted off Sakhalin Island in 2007 resulted in the identification of 83 whales, including nine calves and two previously unidentified non-calves. Restoring Wildlife Habitat On Rat Island: Environmental Assessment

Restoration of natural ecosystem function on Rat Island promises to re-establish native seabirds and other native species, thus returning this wilderness island to a healthy natural community. This restoration cannot occur until the island is cleared of the invasive non-native rats that now dominate the living community.

Introduced non-native species are a leading cause of extinctions in island communities worldwide. Increasingly, land managers are removing introduced species to aid in the restoration of native ecosystems. Rats are responsible for 40-60% of all recorded bird and reptile extinctions worldwide. Entrepreneurial Stock Brokering And Switching Costs, G. Geoffrey Booth, Orkunt M. Dalgic, Juha-Pekka Kallunki, Petri Sahlström

Stock brokers are entrepreneurs who incur switching costs when the change brokerage houses. We use Helsinki Stock Exchange data to investigate these costs by examining whether investors are loyal to their brokers when brokers move. We find that investors who have extant relationships with the new house are more likely to attract the investors from the old houses, and savvy (knowledgeable) investors are more likely to stay with their broker.

Why Would Financial Bubbles Evolve After New Technologies?, Haim Kedar-Levy

This paper presents an equity market where the value of a new technology is infrequently observable while the equity claim of the asset is continuously traded. We clear the stock market between two optimal asset allocation strategies, speculative vs. fundamental, adopted by risk-averse investors who differ in their rist-aversion. The stock price path maintains a potential for endogenous bubbles or under-pricing vs. the asset as a function of total funds invested in the stock by each investor type. Bubbles grow exponentially if speculation dominates but if the fundamental strategy dominates, the stock's growth rate and its volatility will decline.

Fda Drug Approvals: Time Is Money!, Andreas Sturm, Michael J. Dowling, Klaus Röder

We investigated the stock price behavior of public pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies upon approval of a drug by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Using event study methodology, we examine the reaction caused by the approval, seperating it from the asset price movements caused by other factors such as market and industry effects. The results are then used to validate the model developed in this article as an alternative to the explanations given by Sharma and Lacey (2004). The results of this study support the Efficient Market Hypothesis, i.e. that the market reacts to the new information quickly and clearly.

Capital Acquisition Attitudes: Gender And Experience, Richard B. Carter, Howard Van Auken

The Journal of Entrepreneurial Finance

In this research we provide evidence on small firm owners' attitudes and approaches to capital acquisition. The most surprising finding is their general dissatisfaction with the capital acquisition process. Yet we found no evidence that this dissatisfaction translates into poor performance. Our analysis indicates that male-owned business were older, more likely to be technology-based, and bigger in terms of sales and assets. Male respondents were also better educated. We found no significant results for the firms owned by more experienced respondents. However, more experienced owners and male respondents were more likely to look outside resources, like governments, to provide guidance …

Managers of start-up firms make a number of important yet understudied decisions, such as whether or not to develop a new product, whether or not to choose a high-technology product or service, whether or not to use external assistance, and the amount of time and effort they will devote to their new company. These choices are informed by their access to various resources, such as the size of the management team, its education level, its previous experience working at start-ups, and other attributes. BACKGROUND: Perioperative myocardial injury (PMI) remains a major cause of perioperative morbidity and mortality but clinical strategies to prevent PMI are still uncertain.

METHODS AND RESULTS: We comprehensively searched PubMed for major research articles concerning clinical strategies to prevent PMI. The key findings are as follows: (1) the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association guideline update for perioperative cardiovascular evaluation for noncardiac surgery is very useful to stratify cardiac risk preoperatively; (2) cardiac troponin has emerged as a biomarker to diagnose postoperative PMI and to predict clinical outcomes; (3) coronary revascularization before noncardiac surgery probably would provide cardiac protection in …

This article summarizes U.S. Sarbanes-Oxley Act section 404 internal control reports that reveal material weaknesses due to inadequate disaster recovery planning. According to the authors, Section 404 applies to public companies with over $75 million in public float. They advise that auditors evaluating internal control over financial reporting must consider key information technology-related risks and controls that affect financial reporting, including issues related to disaster recovery planning.

Hog Producers' Risk Management Attitudes And Desire For Additional Risk Management Education, George F. Patrick, Amy J. Peiter, Thomas O. Knight, Keith H. Coble, Alan Baquet

Hog producers in Indiana and Nebraska were surveyed about sources of risk, effectiveness of risk management strategies, and prior participation in and desire for additional risk management education. Ownership of hogs by the producer, size of the operation, and age did have significant effects on ratings of both sources of risk and effectiveness of risk management strategies. Probit analysis found age, prior attendance, knowledge and prior use of the tool, level of integration, and concern about price and performance risk have significant effects on interest in further education about production contracts, futures and options, packer marketing contracts, and financial management.

The purpose of this study was to investigate middle and high school principals' perception of their understanding and facilitation of the implementation of cognitive instructional strategies in the classroom to improve reading. The study also investigated the English/language arts chair or language arts teacher's perception of their principals' understanding and facilitation of the implementation of cognitive instructional strategies to improve the reading. The population for the research was public high school principals and teachers grades 9-12, and middle school principals and teachers grades 6-8. Through transmitter pre-filtering, a time reversed UWB system is capable if harnessing a multipath channel to achieve temporal and spatial focusing. Unfortunately, large RMS channel delay spread leads to significant intersymbol and multiuser interference. This paper presents closed-form expressions for self and multi-user interference for a UWB system utilizing a time-reversed approach. The influence of user multiplexing codes is taken to account through incorporation of a ‘separation probability’, which characterizes a family of hopping sequences. The standardized IEEE 802.15.3a channel model is applied, and the derived performances are compared with that of a simulated time hopped time-reversed UWB system.

Much of the previous researches in MANET routing have focused on developing strategies, which suit one specific networking scenario. Therefore, there is no existing protocol that can work well in all different networking scenarios. This paper reviews characteristics of each different classes of routing protocols. We report early follow-up observations of the error box of the short burst GRB 050813 using the telescopes at Calar Alto and Observatorio Sierra Nevada, followed by deep VLT FORS2 I-band observations obtained under very good seeing conditions 5.7 and 11.7 days after the event. Neither a fading afterglow nor a rising SN component was found, so the potential GRB host galaxy has not been identified based on a comparison of the two VLT images taken at different epochs. We discuss whether any of the galaxies present in the original 1000 XRTerror circle could be the host.In anycase, the optical …
