The Effectiveness Of Musical Stimuli In Spatial Audio Displays: An Empirical Investigation Of The Effects Of Volume And Spatial Processing Detail, Matthew Crisler

Audio displays have potential to convey spatial information to users without taxing their visual resources, but have been shown to annoy some users. Musical stimuli have the potential to reduce user annoyance, but their potential to be localized spatially is untested. These experiments tested how well musical stimuli can be localized at different volumes and when using different spatial processing techniques to manipulate the spatial information.
The two experiments presented participants with brief musical stimuli simulating spatial locations between -40¡ and 40¡ from the saggital plane and asked participants to report the perceived direction of the sound. In Experiment 1, …

Pyridinium Bis-Retinoids A2-Dopamine And A2-Cadaverine: Implications In Age-Related Macular Degeneration And Cancer, Mckenzie Ruth Pew

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in the United States of America. The pyridinium bis-retinoid A2-ethanolamine (A2E) has been implicated to play a role in AMD. We have observed novel pyridinium bis-retinoids through melanolipofuscin and human RPE extractions that may also play a role in the pathology of AMD. We have begun the construction of an amino-retinoid library in order to identify these ocular compounds. The compounds from the amino-retinoid library are also used in a targeted and triggered drug delivery system for treating cancer. Multi-robot systems provide system redundancy and enhanced capability versus single robot systems. Implementations of these systems are varied, each with specific design approaches geared towards an application domain. Some traditional single robot control architectures have been expanded for multi-robot systems, but these expansions predominantly focus on the addition of communication capabilities. Both design approaches are application specific and limit the generalizability of the system. This work presents a redesign of a common single robot architecture in order to provide a more sophisticated multi-robot system. OXFORD, Miss. - Students in high schools and middle schools statewide are invited to enter the second annual Trebuchet Hurling Competition Feb. 5 at the University of Mississippi. While activities for the students are planned for the entire day, the final hurling contest begins at 5 p.m. in the Ole Miss Indoor Practice Facility and is free and open to the public. This work will illustrate how Environmental America Inc., EAI, and the Clemson University design team utilized lean manufacturing principles to revolutionize the curbside waste collection process. Through the application of lean manufacturing principles the number of non-value added steps was significantly reduced and the information gathered from the lean process tree acted as a framework to develop initial constraints and criteria for the vehicle's development. The design team was asked to construct the fifth iteration of the prototype collection vehicle in an effort to minimize vehicle cost, size and weight. Thermal Diffusion Coefficient Modeling For High Pressure Combustion Simulations, Soundararaghavan Vasudevan

The effects of Soret and Dufour diffusion on the behavior of high pressure laminar diffusion flames relevant to modern combustion devices are investigated. A novel model for thermal diffusion coefficients is developed based on experimental data found in the literature and the principle of corresponding states. The new model is first compared with existing models and experimental data and is shown to be more accurate and to exhibit correct behavior in the limit of high temperature relevant to combustion. The model furthermore does not exhibit sensitivity to the equation of state, its mixing rules, or unphysical sign changes observed in …

Collateral consequences, a term used in this paper to refer generally to the effect of any measure that might increase the negative consequences of a criminal conviction, fall roughly into three categories: impaired access to, or enjoyment of, the ordinary rights and benefits associated with citizenship or residency, such as voting or driving; impaired economic opportunity, primarily through reduction of the range of available employment; and increased severity of sanctions in any subsequent criminal proceeding brought against the offender. These indirect but significant consequences of a felony or misdemeanor conviction are receiving increasing attention from policy makers, ethicists, and the …
