Recently, there has been substantial research in the area of network security. Correlation of intrusion detection sensor alerts, vulnerability analysis, and threat projection are all being studied in hopes to relieve the workload that analysts have in monitoring their networks. Having an automated algorithm that can estimate the impact of cyber attacks on a network is another facet network analysts could use in defending their networks and gaining better overall situational awareness. Socioeconomic Assessment Of The Carson National Forest: Submitted To The United States Forest Service, Region 3 Office, Billy Ulibarrí, Lee A. Reynis, Jeffrey Mitchell

The UNM Bureau of Business and Economic Research conducted a socioeconomic analysis of the Carson National Forest (CNF) and surrounding communities for the U.S. Forest Service. The report includes quantitative data on the CNF overall, and on the various activities within its boundaries — recreation, livestock grazing, and timber harvesting — as well as demographics on the population of northern New Mexico. The authors used input-output analysis to determine CNFs economic impact. The study's principal finding: of the six ranger districts in the CNF, Questa attracted the most visitors and had the greatest economic impact, largely because of its winter …

Preemption and prevention are different concepts. To preempt is to attempt to strike first against an enemy who is in the process of preparing, or is actually launching, an attack against you. Preemption is not controversial. The decision for war has been taken out of your hands. Prevention, however, is a decision to wage war, or conduct a strike, so as to prevent a far more dangerous context maturing in the future. Eschatological Thought And Religiosity Among Christians: Patterns And Relationships, Ingrid Emelia Hellstrom

In contrast to research on fundamentalism and death anxiety, there has been very little empirical research on the relationship between a person's eschatology, religious thought and behavior. This study attempts to identify associations between eschatology, religiosity, locus of control, death anxiety, and an individual's concept of God. Respondents were 226 college students who completed a questionnaire designed to assess how religious, psychological, and demographic variables predict eschatological beliefs and attitudes. Most respondents were Christian, Caucasian, and female. Eschatological beliefs were directly associated with religious involvement, hope, a deistic and wrathful image of God, and death anxiety. The subject matter and scope of this article is limited to providing a framework for legal oversight to the planning and execution of tactical level PSYOP and MILDEC operations. As a result, it does not cover in detail issues such as neutrality, operations conducted within the United States which impact the Constitution, or combatant command authorities and their attendant supporting and supported relations. Rather, it seeks to provide a roadmap for a JA or legal representative assigned to an IO cell in support of tactical military operations.

This article summarizes significant developments in 2006 concerning international courts and tribunals, particularly events relating to the International Court of Justice, the Permanent Court of Arbitration, the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal, the Eritrea-Ethiopia Claims Commission, and arbitral tribunals constituted under the Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes Between States and Nationals of Other States. This article covers the period of activity from December 1, 2005, to November 30, 2006.

A serum free medium was developed for the production of recombinant antibody against Botulinum A (BoNTA) using dihydrofolate reductase deficient Chinese Hamster Ovary Cells (CHO-DG44) in suspension culture. An initial control basal medium was prepared, which was similar in composition to HAM’s F12: IMDM (1:1) supplemented with insulin, transeferrin, selenium and a lipid mixture. The vitamin concentration of the basal medium was twice that of HAM’s F12: IMDM (1:1). CHO-DG44 cells expressing S25 antibody grew from 2 x 10⁵ cells to maximum cell density of 1.04 x 10⁶ cells/ml after 5 days in this control medium. A central …

Although competition has been an ideological beacon of economic governance ever since the birth of the Union, it has largely been an internal affair. External competition from foreign producers has failed to be factored into antitrust scrutiny. On the contrary, the government, through its trade policies such as antidumping remedies, has often hampered foreign competition to protect domestic producers at the expense of all the benefits that foreign competition might bring to the economy. Antidumping remedies tend to create a legal cartel: they fix the import prices and generate non-price predation by petitioners. However, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)'s potential …

Fugitive Women: Slavery And Social Change In Early Modern Southeast Asia, Eric A. Jones

Faculty Articles, Papers, and Other Scholarship

Female slaves in VOC-controlled Southeast Asia did not fare well under a legal code which erected a firm partition between free and slave status. This codification imposed a rigid dichotomy for what had been fluid, abstract conceptions of social hierarchy, in effect silting up the flow of underclass mobility. At the same time, conventional relationships between master and slave shifted in the context of a changing economic climate. This article closely narrates the lives of several eighteenth-century female slaves who, left with increasingly fewer options in this new order, resorted to running away.

In recent years, world events have expedited the need for the design and application of rapidly deployable airborne surveillance systems in urban environments. Fast and effective use of the surveillance images requires accurate modeling of the terrain being surveyed. The process of accurately modeling buildings, landmarks, or other items of interest on the surface of the earth, within a short lead time, has proven to be a challenging task. One approach of high importance for countering this challenge and accurately reconstructing 3D objects is through the employment of airborne 3D image acquisition platforms.
