An Exploratory Study Of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual And Transgender Veterans Of Recent U.S. Conflicts, Kimberly J. Garland

This exploratory study was undertaken for the purpose of expanding the understanding of the experiences of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender veterans who have served under the policy of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Don't Pursue. Twenty Lesbian, Gay and Transgender veterans completed an anonymous, online survey. Diversity within the sample was particularly pronounced in terms of sexual orientation, gender identity, and the roles that these veterans served in the military. The findings of this study indicate that LGBT service members and veterans face much adversity both within and out of the military and that Transgender service members and veterans face …

This theoretical study was undertaken to explore the experience of women in the military and to gain an understanding of military women's vulnerability to homelessness and their service needs. A study conducted by Gamache, et al. (2003) established that women veterans did show a higher instance of homelessness than non-veteran women. This study includes an exploration of trauma theory and approaches for treatment of homelessness to develop a better understanding of an effective model to treat homelessness within women veterans. ABSTRACT The market for force in Italy through the 13th to 15th century is examined, through the medium of contracts between city states and mercenary soldiers. The historical era is divided into three distinct periods; each period is characterized by a typical contract type. Based on historical descriptions of these periods, it appears that the transaction costs associated with hiring private force providers varied significantly from period to period and regression analysis is performed in an attempt to determine the relationship between these costs and the number of private soldiers employed by the city states of Milan, Venice, and Florence …

The debate over humanitarian intervention has tended to focus on the conditions under which the resort to armed intervention is permissible while paying less attention to which actors are best suited to engage in such a complicated and demanding undertaking. The purpose of this paper is to explore characteristics that affect the ability of potential agents of humanitarian intervention to effectively undertake this operationally and politically demanding task. During the confrontation between the Federal forces and the Chechen separatists, serious human rights violations occurred. Several cases concerning violations of fundamental rights, in and around the city, have been brought before the European Court of Human Rights against Russia. The paper identifies trap, escape and vision integration as adaptive challenges to leadership in conflict, particularly in the context of Burma, where military government and elected parties have been in political impasse since 1990 elections. International sanctions and constructive engagement strategies have failed to bring the parties to the table. Burmese opposition leaders have found that other parties are simply unwilling to begin negotiations. Many generations of indigenous pathways through the forests of eastern Texas have their origins obscured in antiquity. Utilized by early European explorers, these pathways became modified through heavy use and the expansions and improvements needed to accommodate easy passage of European horses and carts and finally the heavy wagons of Anglo-American settlers. The first road through Texas, El Camino Real de Los Tejas, utilized portions of these early trails.

El Camino Carretera (known as the cart road) is an early segment of El Camino Real de los Tejas that crossed the Sabine River at the boundary between Texas and Louisiana. …

In 1962 he graduated valedictorian of John Bapst High School, and then attended Ecole Acadie Francaise. He graduated from Georgetown University, Phi Beta Kappa, cum laude, and Phi Alpha Theta (History honors) in 1966. One of the greatest tasks before the United States at the end of the Civil War was to educate the freed slave. Even though efforts to educate African Americans existed long before the beginning of the war, those efforts were often clandestine and illegal in Southern states. After the war ended, this endeavor was undertaken by various religious denominations, philanthropic Northerners, and the newly created public schools systems within Southern states. Many schools were constructed to provide segregated education, often with one or two rooms for instruction, but sometimes including multi-building campuses. In order to help combat a recent increase in the number of General Aviation accidents, the Federal Aviation Administration has endorsed a new pilot training curriculum known as FAA/Industry Training Standards. This new training program incorporates Scenario Based Training (SBT) which differs from traditional pilot training, known as Maneuver Based Training (MBT), by utilizing scripted “real world” scenarios to introduce maneuvers and provide pilots in training with more decision making opportunities. As humans continue to experience space missions of longer and longer duration, more and more high intensity stressors are going to be experienced. Although physiological stressors have been studied, there have been few studies on the psychological stressors. Those that are present primarily focused on the polar environment as a space analogue. In order to answer the question of how stressors may affect future astronauts and cosmonauts, the evolutoinary reasons behind stress must be considered not only the type and intensity of the stressors.

Nitrogen Heterocyclic Compounds As Receptors In Nanosensors For Nerve Gas Agent Analogs, Swapna Katram

The research is focused on developing nanosensors consisting of different components that are chemically linked, namely, nanoparticle, fluorescent monomer, and receptor (NMR sensors) and nanoparticle, monomer, nanomolecule, and receptor (NMNR sensors) for the sensitive and selective detection of nerve gas agents. These sensors detect the target toxins by fluorescence change which is amplified by signal transduction. Model nerve gas toxins (DCP) and (DMMP) and HCl were employed as analytes, and the nitrogen heterocyclic compounds, 5-aminoindazole and dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine (dppz) as receptors in the NMR and NNMR nanosensors. OBJECTIVE: To test in vitro susceptibilities of Brucella melitensis (B. melitensis) blood isolates obtained from an endemic region, by broth microdilution susceptibility test. METHODS: Fifty blood isolates were tested with anti-brucella antibiotics, namely, tetracycline, gentamicin, streptomycin, ceftriaxone, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, ofloxacin, and rifampin. All of the clinical isolates belonged to the group of B. melitensis biotype-3. This study was performed at the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory of the Medical School of Ondokuz Mayis University, Samsun, Turkey, in 2005. RESULTS: In terms of minimum inhibitory concentration-90 (MIC90) values, tetracycline (MIC90 0.25 microgram/mL) and rifampin (MIC90 0.5 microgram/mL) still continue to be the most …
