Emergency Airway Management Of A Patient With Mediastinal Mass, Anwar Ul Huda, Khalid Maudood Siddiqui, Fazal Hameed Khan Jan 2007

Emergency Airway Management Of A Patient With Mediastinal Mass, Anwar Ul Huda, Khalid Maudood Siddiqui, Fazal Hameed Khan

Department of Anaesthesia

Appropriate airway management is an essential part of anaesthesiologist's role. Extrinsic airway compression by rapidly growing mediastinal masses represents a therapeutic challenge to anaesthesiologists. We report a case of successful airway management in a patient with obstructed airway. The patient was a middle aged female who presented with severe respiratory distress secondary to a huge mediastinal mass. CT scan showed widened superior mediastinum with circumferential narrowing of trachea and left main bronchus. Her condition continued to deteriorate during her hospital admission, so emergency intubation and tracheostomy was planned. She was intubated with the help of a bougie using size 6 …

Urban Danish Foodways And Ethnic Marketing Strategies In Bien, 1900-1950, Catrine Kyster Christensen Giery

The Bridge

Food culture is an integral part of popular culture. Fabio Parasecoli defines popular culture as “the totality of ideas, values, embodied experiences, representations, material items, practices, social relations, organizations, and institutions that are conceived, produced, experienced, and reciprocally connected within environments influenced by markets and consumption, with or without the specific economic goal of reaping a profit.” When food culture appears in the semi-public sphere—for example, in grocery stores, restaurants, bars, butcher stores, and bakeries, it demarcates a space where the desires and strategies of businessmen and consumers meet. Consumers want the products they need at an affordable price, and …

Now & Then (Volume 23, Issue 02, 2007), Center Of Excellence For Appalachian Studies And Services, East Tennessee State University

Now & Then: The Appalachian Magazine

Now & Then: The Appalachian Magazine, Volume 23, Issue 02, published in 2007. The theme of this issue is Wildness. This issue considers the idea of wildness in Appalachian life, nature, and imagination. Through stories of animals, landscapes, and unconventional personalities, contributors reflect on the unpredictable forces that shape both the natural world and human experience, from encounters with wolves, crows, bears, and elusive mountain creatures to memories of rebellious musicians, herbal traditions, and youthful mischief. Essays, fiction, and poetry together explore wildness as both a literal presence in the region's environment and a symbolic expression of independence, mystery, …

My initial experience with honors in academia occurred several years ago when I was approached to teach a 3-credit course as the humanities component of the honors curriculum at Clarion University. Being a musician, I was not quite certain what I could offer these students. The majority of them could not read music, much less play a musical instrument, and I knew that I wanted the course to be more than a typical general education survey course. Several years later, and through participation at National Collegiate Honors Council conferences, I have learned that dilemma is typical in honors programs. I …
