Discovering Price In All The Wrong Places: The Work Of Commodity Definition And Price Under Neoliberal Environmental Policy, Morgan Robertson
Discovering Price In All The Wrong Places: The Work Of Commodity Definition And Price Under Neoliberal Environmental Policy, Morgan Robertson
United States Environmental Protection Agency: Publications
Price plays a unique role in neoliberal economic theory, quantifying value and providing markets with the information needed to produce equilibrium conditions and optimal social welfare. While the role of price is clear, the mechanisms by which prices are discovered, and by which the commodities they value are defined, are left obscure in neoliberal theory. Automatic price discovery, and self-evident commodity identities, are assumed. Observation of newly created markets in ecosystem services suggests that this is a moment of significant tension within neoliberal practice, as potential market participants seek guidance from the state on appropriate commodity measures and pricing practices. …

“Heritage Rocks”: Principles And Best Practices Of Effective Intercultural Teaching And Learning, Peter Frederick, Mary James
To Improve the Academy: A Journal of Educational Development
This portrayal of the intercultural teaching/learning culture and classroom stories at one fully multicultural institution, Heritage University, itself reflecting many diverse “heritages,” provides a glimpse into the faces of the future of higher education in America. We offer several examples and a synthesis of the principles and best practices of effective intercultural teaching and learning, with the intention of helping other institutions move intercultural education from the margins to the “center,” thereby preparing both teachers and learners for effective intercultural learning and living in the 21st century.

UIC Review of Intellectual Property Law
A growing conflict between the creators and owners of expressive works protected by copyright law and the community of users and distributors of those works has focused on whether the law is so restrictive that it no longer meets the constitutional mandate that intellectual property law should serve to promote the growth and development of useful and expressive works. Has the scope of copyright's growth been reasonable, or are its restrictions madness, and harmful to the development and distribution of art? This article explores the seven leading criticisms leveled against copyright's expansion, and examines one recent effort at legislative reform …

Lessons From Florida: Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, Michael Flynn
St. Thomas Law Review
Bev and Jim have so much to be thankful for. You see, their youngest daughter, Samantha, was born with Turner's syndrome. Turner's syndrome, without getting too medically complicated, sentences a child to a life of being too short.' The prospect for Samantha to be in the normal range of height was not good. Bev and Jim then turned to the Human Growth Foundation for help. Through the work of this Foundation and the extraordinary commitment of these parents to the Foundation and their child, Samantha was able to receive human growth hormone injections. These injections coupled with other treatment have …

Dickens's Hamlet Burlesque, Daniel Pollack-Pelzner
Dickens's Hamlet Burlesque, Daniel Pollack-Pelzner
Faculty Publications
Daniel Pollack-Pelzner considers what an interlude in Great Expectations involving a spectacularly bad production of Hamlet can do for Hamlet. Specifically, Pollack-Pelzner looks at what Dickens's rendering of Mr. Wopsle's travesty reveals about Hamlet's openness to an audience's derisive laughter. Wopsle’s production may be a travesty, but Dickens’s narrative of that production is a burlesque, with Hamlet as much its target as Wopsle.

The George Eliot Review Online, ISSN: 2831-5375
1. John Chapman and the Strand in 1847
24 July 1847 the following advertisement appeared in the weekly periodical, the Athenaeum:
MR CHAPMAN, Bookseller and Publisher, begs to announce that he has REMOVED his Business from 121 Newgate Street, to more spacious premises on the South side of the STRAND, No 142, a few doors West of Somerset House; and requests, therefore, that all communications may be forwarded to the latter address.
For the next seven years John Chapman's 'spacious premises' - consisting of the bookselling business and publishing house, his family home, and rooms for literary lodgers - was …
The George Eliot Centenary Of 1919, Margaret Harris
The George Eliot Centenary Of 1919, Margaret Harris
The George Eliot Review Online, ISSN: 2831-5375
The centenary of George Eliot's birth in 1919 was recognized as an opportunity to commemorate her connection with the parts of Warwickshire where she was born and spent her early life. While her association with Coventry and Nuneaton had been noted during her lifetime and in obituaries, and emphasized again when George Eliot's Life as related in her letters and journals, arranged and edited by her husband J. W. Cross was published in 1885, there were some inhibitions about too enthusiastically claiming an agnostic libertine as a local celebrity. Both Nuneaton and Coventry chose to celebrate the centenary, and reconstruction …
