Mayanwiki: An Online, Consensus-Based Linguistic Corpus Of The Mayan Hieroglyphs, Robbie A. Haertel
Mayanwiki: An Online, Consensus-Based Linguistic Corpus Of The Mayan Hieroglyphs, Robbie A. Haertel
Theses and Dissertations
The writing system used by the ancient Maya civilization has intrigued researchers and aficionados for centuries. Now that it has mostly been deciphered, the emphasis in the field of Mayan epigraphy has shifted to a study of the system of phonological, morphological, and grammatical rules that once governed the language that the hieroglyphs encode. One of the most important resources for linguistic study of this type is a comprehensive, electronic corpus of texts to investigate phraseology, frequency information, and collocations. Because Mayan linguistic epigraphy is in the early stages, a publicly available, editable corpus would be an invaluable resource in …

Pioneers In Twentieth Century Mormon Media: Oral Histories Of Latter-Day Saint Electronic And Public Relations Professionals, Jonice L. Hubbard
Pioneers In Twentieth Century Mormon Media: Oral Histories Of Latter-Day Saint Electronic And Public Relations Professionals, Jonice L. Hubbard
Theses and Dissertations
The project consists of three parts: a summary of the research, a collection of sixteen oral histories of Latter-day Saint Electronic Media and Public Relations professionals who contributed to the development and growth of media in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and a one-hour documentary film, Pioneers in Mormon Media, which gives a brief history of the development of modern mass communications and its use by the Church. This qualitative study investigates who has been involved in Church media, what projects have been accomplished and provides some explanation as to why the Church uses media. The oral …

Examining The Role Of Reciprocity Within The Formative Assessment Process Alongside Prospective Teachers, Juliann M. Kaftan
Examining The Role Of Reciprocity Within The Formative Assessment Process Alongside Prospective Teachers, Juliann M. Kaftan
College of Education and Human Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
This self-study examines the role of reciprocity within the formative assessment process in order to explore preservice teacher understandings of the complexities of the teaching/learning/assessment process. I study myself in relation to my practice in order to provide an account of how my knowledge of teaching is lived out in practice. Through the various chapters, I give the reader glimpses of my background and the particular situations that draw out theory/practice relations. The conceptual framework gives the reader an idea of the assumptions that frame my thinking. In particular, I articulate knowledge as experiential and perception as multi-layered. Self-study methodology …

Beneficial Fungal Interactions Resulting In Accelerated Germination Of Astragalus Utahensis, A Hard-Seeded Legume, Sean D. Eldredge
Theses and Dissertations
Seed germination is pivotal in the life cycle of native plants in a restorative context because initiation of the metabolic processes critical to establishment is key to survival in such a competitive environment. Dormancy characteristics of some native plants including the subject species, Astragalus utahensis, have evolved mechanisms to control germination in order to maintain a seed bank and ensure germination at the right time under optimal conditions. In vitro germination studies confirm beneficial interactions between Alternaria and Aspergillus fungi and Astragalus utahensis seed. Inoculated seed trials (1.0 x 106 spores/mL) exhibited a highly significant difference in percent germination between …

Numerical Simulation Of Gas-Solid Dynamics In A Circulating Fluidized-Bed Riser With Geldart Group B Particles, S. Vaishali, Shantanu Roy, Satish Bhusarapu, M. (Muthanna) H. Al-Dahhan, M. P. Dudukovic
Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Circulating Fluidized-Bed (CFB) Risers with Geldart Group B Particles Have Found Significant Application in Combustion Reactions. the Present Work Attempts to Study the Solids Flow Dynamics in a CFB Riser that is Operated with Group B Particles, using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Techniques. the Key Feature in the Present Study is that the Various Closure Schemes in the CFD Model Have Been Evaluated Against Data from Non-Invasive Experimental Techniques: Computer Automated Radioactive Particle Tracking (CARPT) for Solids Velocity Field and Computed Tomography (CT) for Solids Holdup. Since Solids Flow in a Riser is Multiscale in Character, in Addition to the …

A Comparison And Contrast Of The History Of Christianity As It Developed In Cappadocia And Armenia During The First Five Centuries Ad, Judy Henzel
All Theses
The purpose of this thesis is to examine key political, cultural or environmental factors which affected the rise and development of Christianity in two specific regions of eastern Anatolia during the first to fifth centuries AD. Hagiography and chronicle often portray the progress of Christianity as deterministic and providential. However, unique cultural and political elements proved very influential in shaping the success and forms of Christianity in Cappadocia and Armenia, particularly in the fourth and fifth centuries AD.

A Stochastic Multiple Players Multi-Issues Bargaining Model For The Piave River Basin, Alessandra Sgobbi, Carlo Carraro
A Stochastic Multiple Players Multi-Issues Bargaining Model For The Piave River Basin, Alessandra Sgobbi, Carlo Carraro
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
The objective of this paper is to investigate the usefulness of non-cooperative bargaining theory for the analysis of negotiations on water allocation and management. We explore the impacts of different economic incentives, a stochastic environment and varying individual preferences on players’ strategies and equilibrium outcomes through numerical simulations of a multilateral, multiple issues, non-cooperative bargaining model of water allocation in the Piave River Basin, in the North East of Italy. Players negotiate in an alternating-offer manner over the sharing of water resources (quantity and quality). Exogenous uncertainty over the size of the negotiated amount of water is introduced to capture …

Improving Information Security Management In Nonprofit Organisations With Action, Mark Carey-Smith, Karen Nelson, Lauren May
Improving Information Security Management In Nonprofit Organisations With Action, Mark Carey-Smith, Karen Nelson, Lauren May
Australian Information Security Management Conference
Information security is vital for protecting important assets of organisations, including the information resources and the organisation’s reputation. In Australia, the nonprofit sector makes a significant contribution to society but is under represented in the information security literature. This paper describes research in progress that is investigating and improving information security management in some nonprofit organisations (NPOs), which incorporates a participatory action research methodology. This approach will enhance the skill set likely to be present in Australian nonprofit organisations, producing a more sustainable solution, as well as contributing to the open literature. The Technology Acceptance Model will be utilised as …
