The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality is developing Total Maximum Daily Loads to address water quality concerns and threatened and endangered species habitat requirements. Approximately 940 water body segments are listed as water quality limited for temperature in Oregon. CE-QUAL-W2 Version 3 is a two-dimensional water quality and hydrodynamic model capable of modeling rivers, reservoirs and estuaries. An important aspect of modeling stream temperature is handling the short-wave solar radiation that penetrates the water surface and impacts the streambed, which can affect water temperatures under low-flow conditions. Ion-Implanting Modification Of Layered Manganese Dioxide And Its Electrochemical Performance, He-Ning Huang, Dong-Ping Lv, Xing-Kang Huang, Qi-Wei Zhang, Yong Yang

Layered MnO₂(δ-MnO₂) was prepared by thermal decomposition of potassium permanganate.Ti was ion-implanted into such δ-MnO₂ by physical techniques,forming a composite(δ-MnO₂-Ti).These materials were characterized by XRD,SEM,XPS techniques and their electrochemical proprieties were investigated.The results showed that the layered structure of δ-MnO₂ did not been destroyed after Ti ion implantation,and the implanted Ti element was mainly Ti⁴⁺ as indicated by XPS.Both of the first and the highest discharge specific capacities of the ion-implanted layered MnO₂(δ-MnO₂-Ti),compared to those of δ-MnO₂,were improved significantly.

Electrochemical Behavior And Determination Of Luteolin At A Glassy Carbon Electrode, Ai-Lin Liu, Shao-Bo Zhang, Xiao-Sha Wu, Li-Ping Li, Yang-Yuan Cao, Li-Ying Huang, Xin-Hua Lin

The electrochemical behavior of luteolin was studied by voltammetry at a glassy carbon electrode in phosphate buffer solution.The results exhibited that the well-defined redox peak of luteolin is observed and the electrode process is adsorption-controlled.The charge transfer coefficient(α) was calculated as 0.66 in phosphate buffer solution(pH 4.0).The relationships between oxidation peak current and the concentration of luteolin are linear in the range of 1.0×10^-8 ～ 5.0×10^-6 mol·L^-1 by differential pulse voltammetric method.The detection limit had been estimated as 1.0×10^-8 molL^-1.This method can be used for the determination of luteolin with satisfactory results.

Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions from fires in tropical forest fuels were quantified using Proton-Transfer-Reaction Mass Spectrometry (PTRMS), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and gas chromatography (GC) coupled to PTRMS (GC-PTR-MS). We investigated VOC emissions from 19 controlled laboratory fires at the USFS (United States Forest Service) Fire Sciences Laboratory and 16 fires during an intensive airborne field campaign during the peak of the burning season in Brazil in 2004. Paranthropus boisei is a hominin taxon with a distinctive cranial and dental morphology. Its hypodigm has been recovered from sites with good stratigraphic and chronological control, and for some morphological regions, such as the mandible and the mandibular dentition, the samples are not only relatively well dated, but they are, by paleontological standards, reasonably-sized. This means that researchers can trace the evolution of metric and nonmetric variables across hundreds of thousands of years. Genotyping of HBV is generally used for determining the epidemiological relationship between various virus strains and origin of infection mostly in research studies. The utility of genotyping for clinical applications is only beginning to gain importance. The Identification Of Factors Influencing The Diffusion Of An Assessment Innovation On A University Campus, Ann Louise Mccann

College of Education and Human Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

This study explored the extent of and reasons for the adoption of an innovation (REAL) on a university campus (MSU). REAL was an assessment system to improve teaching, student learning and accountability. A mixed methods approach was used, with an electronic survey of faculty (n = 568) and telephone interviews with adopters (n = 9). Using a stratified random sample from all eight colleges, the survey measured perceptions of REAL related to: relative advantage, trialability, result demonstrability, visibility, compatibility, complexity, image and voluntariness. Dipeptidyl aminopeptidase–like proteins (DPLPs) interact with Kv4 channels and thereby induce a profound remodeling of activation and inactivation gating. DPLPs are constitutive components of the neuronal Kv4 channel complex, and recent observations have suggested the critical functional role of the single transmembrane segment of these proteins (Zagha, E., A. Ozaita, S.Y. Chang, M.S. Nadal, U. Lin, M.J. Saganich, T. McCormack, K.O. Akinsanya, S.Y. Qi, and B. Rudy. 2005. J. Biol. Chem. 280:18853–18861). This harvest report for the Oregon wine industry from 2007 explains how, despite weather challenges, farmers and winemakers were able to produce good quality wines with lower alcohol levels. Rains came at an unusual time in the year for the Willamette Valley; in the Applegate, Rogue, and Umpqua Valleys, cooler conditions resulted in less heat stress, producing more balanced fruit and higher yields for growers. The report also includes four-region comparative data prepared by climatologist Dr. Greg Jones.
