Introduction: The purpose of this study was to compare the percentage degree of cure (%DC) of orthodontic adhesive resins irradiated with 3 types of light sources of various intensities: plasma arc, halogen, and light-emitting diode (LED). Methods: Twenty maxillary incisor stainless steel brackets (0.018-in slot) were divided into 4 groups of 5 brackets each. A standardized amount of composite resin was applied to each bracket base, simulating its clinical application. The brackets were light-cured with a halogen light for 20 seconds (10 seconds each from the incisal and cervical bracket edges), an LED light for 20 seconds (10 seconds per …

Iranian Women And The Civil Rights Movement In Iran: Feminism Interacted, Majid Mohammadi
Journal of International Women's Studies
After presenting a compendium of the structural and ideological gender inequalities in the Iranian society, mostly in post-revolutionary era, this article provides basic information and analysis about Iranian feminists in the civil rights movement framework. It also reviews the relationship between Iranian feminism on the one hand and democratization process and demand for vindication of civil rights of all Iranian citizens as the main issues of this movement on the other. This review will be done in three parts: the essence of Iranian feminism in post-revolutionary Iran including a sustained critique of Iranian feminism, the interactions of women activists and …
Access To Healthcare Vis-À-Vis Women’S Reproductive Health In Cameroon, Michael Soh
Access To Healthcare Vis-À-Vis Women’S Reproductive Health In Cameroon, Michael Soh
Journal of International Women's Studies
All over the world, several million women die each year, and 90% of them in developing countries from pregnancy and childbirth related causes (World Health Organisation Magazine on Women’s Health, 1995). Nearly all of these are preventable, yet in Cameroon, this is far-fetched. This study questions why women die from these causes? Is it due to government neglect, and/or women’s callous attitude toward pregnancy and/or the patriarchal control of women? Are healthcare facilities lacking or rudimentary, inadequately staffed, and/or expensive? This study argues that limited access to healthcare facilities drains women’s reproductive health down the spiral in Munyenge-Cameroon.

Gender Responsive Entrepreneurial Economy Of Nigeria: Enabling Women In A Disabling Environment, May Nwoye
Gender Responsive Entrepreneurial Economy Of Nigeria: Enabling Women In A Disabling Environment, May Nwoye
Journal of International Women's Studies
Growth and development are among the most exciting subjects in economics, and the application of their principles to developing countries especially the African economies, is both needed and timely. In Nigeria, women have historically been disadvantaged in accessing not only material resources like property and credit, but also have been deprived of resources like education, market information and modern technology. All of these factors have negative implications for the type of enterprises that women are engaged in. This paper highlights the various economic constraints faced by women in Nigeria, as a result of limitations imposed on them by nature and …

Economic Empowerment Of Women Through Four Psychotherapies In Two Local Government Areas, Nigeria, J. O. Osiki
Journal of International Women's Studies
There is currently a need for more researches to investigate indicators of voluntary/compulsive non-income generating activities and, or behaviour among adult females. Participants of the study were subjected to the quasi-experimental research design adopting the 5x1x5 matrices and 143 adult females screened through the Work Disposition Scale (WDS) and selected from four locations in two Local Government areas of Edo State, Nigeria. Participants were exposed to 5 weeks of intervention using selected work/career enrichment programmes submerged in four psychotherapies. Participants notably in the four intervention groups (i.e. ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’) except those of ‘E’ showed appreciable Mean-score differences …

Manipulating Underdetermination In Scientific Controversy: The Case Of The Molecular Clock, Michael Dietrich, Robert A. Skipper
Manipulating Underdetermination In Scientific Controversy: The Case Of The Molecular Clock, Michael Dietrich, Robert A. Skipper
Dartmouth Scholarship
Where there are cases of underdetermination in scientific controversies, such as the case of the molecular clock, scientists may direct the course and terms of dispute by playing off the multidimensional framework of theory evaluation. This is because assessment strategies themselves are underdetermined. Within the framework of assessment, there are a variety of trade-offs between different strategies as well as shifting emphases as specific strategies are given more or less weight in assessment situations. When a strategy is underdetermined, scientists can change the dynamics of a controversy by making assessments using different combinations of evaluation strategies and/or weighting whatever strategies …

The Effect Of Residue C:N Ratio On The Turnover Of N And C In Various Soil Organic Matter Fractions, Ana B. Wingeyer
Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Identifying soil organic matter (SOM) fractions that contribute to soil indigenous nitrogen (N) supply and understanding their turnover under different management constitute necessary tools toward an efficient N use. The objectives of this study were: i) trace the endpoint of carbon (C) flux from residue inputs into SOM; and ii) asses the role of the light fraction (LF), mobile humic acid (MHA) fraction and calcium humate (CaHA) fraction as N sources for heterotrophic decomposition of fresh plant residues with contrasting C:N ratio. A long-term aerobic soil incubation was carried out on 15N-labeled soil samples from Lincoln and Mead, NE. …
Self-Assembled Biomimetic Antireflection Coatings, Nicholas C. Linn, Chih-Hung Sun, Peng Jiang, Bin Jiang
Self-Assembled Biomimetic Antireflection Coatings, Nicholas C. Linn, Chih-Hung Sun, Peng Jiang, Bin Jiang
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications and Presentations
The authors report a simple self-assembly technique for fabricating antireflection coatings that mimic antireflective moth eyes. Wafer-scale, nonclose-packed colloidal crystals with remarkable large hexagonal domains are created by a spin-coating technology. The resulting polymer-embedded colloidal crystals exhibit highly ordered surface modulation and can be used directly as templates to cast poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) molds. Moth-eye antireflection coatings with adjustable reflectivity can then be molded against the PDMS master. The specular reflection of replicated nipple arrays matches the theoretical prediction using a thin-film multilayer model. These biomimetic films may find important technological application in optical coatings and solar cells.

The Ethics Of Infection Control: Philosophical Frameworks, Charles S. Bryan, Theresa J. Call, Kevin Elliott
The Ethics Of Infection Control: Philosophical Frameworks, Charles S. Bryan, Theresa J. Call, Kevin Elliott
Faculty Publications
Recent developments that are relevant to the ethics of infection control include the patient safety movement, the appearance of new diseases (notably, severe acute respiratory syndrome) that pose threats to healthcare workers, data confirming the suspicion that infection control measures such as isolation may compromise patient care, and, in philosophy, renewed interest in virtue ethics and communitarianism. We review general ethical frameworks and relevant vocabulary for infection control practitioners and hospital epidemiologists. Frameworks for the ethics of infection control resemble those of public health more than those of clinical medicine but embrace elements of both. The optimum framework, we suggest, …

Nanostructurally stabilized zirconium oxide (NSZ) hard transparent films were produced without chemical stabilizers by the ion beam assisted deposition technique (IBAD). A transmission electron microscopy study of the samples produced below 150 °C revealed that these films are composed of zirconium oxide (ZrO2) nanocrystallites of diameters 7.5 ± 2.3 nm. X-ray and selected-area electron diffraction studies suggested that the as-deposited films are consistent with cubic phase ZrO2. Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS) indicated the formation of stoichiometric ZrO2. The phase identity of these optically transparent NSZ films was in agreement with cubic ZrO2, …

"Big Love"'?* The Recognition Of Customary Marriages In South Africa, Penelope E. Andrews
"Big Love"'?* The Recognition Of Customary Marriages In South Africa, Penelope E. Andrews
Washington and Lee Law Review
This Comment contextualizes the issue of polygamous marriages within the South African constitutional paradigm, one committed unequivocally to the principle of equality. This Comment analyzes how South African law, European in origin, had to incorporate the laws and institutions of indigenous communities within the national legal framework, as part of the overall transformative legal project underway in the country since 1994. By focusing on the Recognition of Customary Marriages Act, this Comment examines such incorporation, while questioning its effect on the overall project of constitutionalism, human rights, and equality

Hybrid Chronicles: Biracial And Biethnic Perspectives On The Pedagogy Of Unlearning Racism, Stéphanie Wahab, Sunshine T. Gibson
School of Social Work Faculty Publications and Presentations
This article details an autoethnography project of our odysseys into the pedagogy of unlearning racism. Our know ledge creation process forced us to re-envision both our locations in, and pedagogy of, anti-racism work, with particular attention to the challenges and dangers of teaching about, to, and from White privilege within social work. In the end, we are both troubled and invigorated by what we experienced, witnessed, and supported. By asking people of color to share their personal narratives of racism in the presence of Whites, teachers, facilitators, and diversity trainers stand to continue privileging Whiteness where Whites benefit and learn …
Effects Of The Environment On The Nutritional Needs Of Grazing Livestock, Alvaro Garcia, Cody Wright
Effects Of The Environment On The Nutritional Needs Of Grazing Livestock, Alvaro Garcia, Cody Wright
SDSU Extension Extra Archives
Profitability of grazing operations is related to productivity per acre. Productivity is determined, among other factors, by the efficiency with which the animal harvests the forage. Efficiency can be defined as nutrients consumed per unit of product produced (feed to gain). Costs incurred in this process which are not translated into products are sources of inefficiencies. Costs are not only related to dollars spent by livestock producers but also to nutrient inputs and outputs (balance) incurred by an animal. Just as in your bank account, the animal has a budget in his body with accretions and withdrawals, and when one …
