Hepatitis A (HAV) is common worldwide, but with falling sero-prevalence in residents of developed countries is an indication of improved food and water hygiene. It is well known that the sero-prevalence of hepatitis A are highly correlated with socioeconomic status. The main objective of this study was to have base line data on the age-related sero-prevalence of HAV in Al Ain district and the possible risk factors.

Blood and a questionnaire data were obtained from 280 UAE citizens' outpatients of Tawam Hospital and 333 expatriates' inhabitants of Al Ain city. The expatriate subjects were heterogeneous coming from 24 different countries. …

Ambiguous Women: Debates Within American Evangelical Feminism, A Syska

School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences

This article is an analysis of major debates within American evangelical feminism since its emergence in early 1970s. It examines ways in which American evangelical feminists negotiate their identity in the daily struggle between the mundane and the sacred, home setting and church practice, and their private and public lives. Through presentation of personal stories and lived experiences it argues that evangelical feminists' ambiguity is a significant and powerful force that not only forges distinctive self-awareness among evangelical feminists, but also shapes diverse understandings of evangelical feminism and shifts the boundaries of both evangelicalism and feminism in America.

Why The Killing In Darfur Is Genocide, Jennifer Trahan

In the “Anfal trial,” the Iraqi High Tribunal (“IHT”) in Baghdad convicted five former Iraqi high officials of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes committed in 1988 against the Iraqi Kurds. The evidence presented at trial—which included both voluminous documentary evidence as well as eye-witness testimony—demonstrated the clear existence of a genocidal campaign by the former Iraqi government and military, which eliminated an estimated 182,000 Iraqi Kurds in 1988, including through the use of chemical weapons (the eight-phased “Anfal campaign”). This Comment illustrates that moving to a first-to-file system of patent priority would greatly benefit the biotechnology industry and the United States patent system. A first-to-file system would promote the innovative goals of the patent system by encouraging early public disclosure and providing greater certainty of protection.

"Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves!" Why The Parental Rights Of Registered Domestic Partners Must Trump The Parental Rights Of Their Known Sperm Donors In California, Allison J. Stone

University of San Francisco Law Review

This Comment argues that California Family Code section 297.5 dictates that parental rights in both domestic partners who conceive a child through artificial insemination trump the parental rights of the known sperm donor, because heterosexual married couples have parental rights when a child is born during their marriage, even if one parent is not biologically related to the child.

This Article highlights the litigation before the Supreme Court in Massachusettes v. EPA, which was brought by a variety of states and other plaintiffs in order to mitigate the effects of climate change under the Clean Air Act. As such, it explores the relevant arguments before the Court, what the Court decided, and how that decision may affect the EPA's role in mitigating climate change.

Badaruddin Ahmad, Ameer Fawad Zahoor, Muhammad Kaleem Khosa, Syed Sarwar Alam

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Different mixed ligand lanthanocene complexes along with Al(i-Bu)_3 are capable of synthesizing partially syndiotactic high molecular weight polymethylmethacrylate. The Schiff base derivative of mixed ligand lanthanocene complexes (1-4) showed better efficiency (Mv = 227 \times 10^3-354 \times 10^3) compared to the methoxyethylindenyl derivative of mixed ligand lanthanocene complexes (5-9) (Mv = 72 \times 10^3, 172 \times 10^3). The effects of the catalyst, temperature, catalyst/MMA molar ratio, and catalyst/Al(i-Bu)_3 molar ratio on the polymerization of MMA at 60 °C suggested that ligand size and radius of rare earth metals play an important role in determining the activity of the catalyst.

Garbage on the Green Reports

Approximately 135 undergraduate students participated in a waste characterization study at the University of North Florida (UNF) on March 8, 2007 that was titled Garbage on the Green. The purpose of the study was to identify and quantify the types and sources of materials in UNF’s solid waste stream. Findings from the study were used to generate new strategies for improving campus waste management and recycling programs. The study was funded by the Environmental Center and supported by the university administration, the city of Jacksonville, and a diverse group of regional public and private organizations.

Voltammetric And Spectroscopic Studies Of Vanadium(V)-- Nicotinamide Interactions At Physiological Ph, Semi̇ha Çakir, Ender Bi̇çer

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The interaction of nicotinamide (NA) with NH_4VO_3 at the physiological pH (pH 7.4) was studied by voltammetry and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The reduction of V(V) ions complexed with NA in phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) was observed as a well-defined reversible reduction peak at --0.35 V. The stoichiometric (metal:ligand) ratio of the complex of V(V) with NA was determined as 1:2 by the mole ratio method.

The southwestern region of the Dominican Republic (Enriquillo Valley) contains exceptionally well-preserved, relict marine and saline lake deposits of mid-Holocne age. Abundant euryhaline ostracodes found in this deposit include Cyprideis salebrosa, C. mexicana, C. similis, and C. edentata. Morphometric and geochemical analyses performed on Cyprideis spp. provide high δ¹⁸O and δ¹³C values that are coincident with relative abundances of irregularly shaped pores that permeate the ostracode carapace. We recognize three stratigraphic intervals with distinct ostracode pore shape and stable isotope trends: (I) a 4.5-5.0m interval that contains ostracodes with highly irregular shaped pores (multiradiate) and …
