Minority Groups And Intimate Partner Violence: A Selected Annotated Bibliography, Raquel J. Gabriel

St. Thomas Law Review

This bibliography is designed to be an introduction to the topic of domestic/intimate partner violence within the broad definition of those traditionally identified as "minority groups." Towards that end, the selected annotations cover African American, Asian, Disabled, Immigrant, Latina, and Native American populations. It is intended to be of use to the researcher who will be working with any or all of these populations, and who has little or no previous exposure to the additional challenges a member of a minority group may encounter as a victim of intimate partner violence.

An Ecological Assessment Of Property And Violent Crime Rates Across A Latino Urban Landscape: The Role Of Social Disorganization And Institutional Anomie Theory, Jeffrey Michael Cancino, Sean P. Varano, Joseph A. Schafer, Roger Enriquez

Justice Studies Faculty Publications

The present research put forth an integrated theoretical framework aimed at providing a more holistic community- level approach explaining crime across a heavily populated Latino city. Guided by social disorganization and institutional anomie theory, this study used several data sources and OLS regression techniques to examine the impact of social disorganization, economic and noneconomic institutional characteristics on rates of property and violent crime across 1,016 census block groups in San Antonio, Texas. While several findings emerged, interactions between alcohol density and concentrated disadvantage were significant and positively associated with property and violent crime. Interactions between welfare generosity and concentrated disadvantage …

The Epistemology Of Esoteric Culture: Spiritual Claim-Making Within The American Neopagan Community, Marty Laubach Jan 2007

The Epistemology Of Esoteric Culture: Spiritual Claim-Making Within The American Neopagan Community, Marty Laubach

Sociology and Anthropology Faculty Research

Non-institutionalised religious communities within western esotericism, such as New Age or Neopagan subcultures, are dynamic marketplaces for knowledge construction that may appear to be chaotic and governed only by the rule of caveat emptor.
