Cosmetic Surgery & Reality Television: The Relationship Between College Students' Viewing Of Cosmetic Surgery On Reality Television And Self-Reported Attitudes Toward Cosmetic Surgery, Elizabeth Reeves O'Connor

Theses

The current study explores the effects of viewing cosmetic surgery reality television programs (CSRTP) on self-reported attitudes toward cosmetic surgery. Undergraduate college students (N = 105) completed surveys and responded to questions related to their television viewing habits and their attitudes toward cosmetic surgery. Results of this study indicate that heavier viewers have a more favorable attitude toward cosmetic surgery for themselves than do non-viewers or lighter viewers. However, the results also indicate no significant difference in attitudes among heavier viewers, lighter viewers, and non-viewers regarding cosmetic surgery for others; additionally, the results show no significant difference in terms of …

Water Resources Professional Project Reports

Community participation in watershed management has been globally recognized as being one of the key elements in sustainable development. The appropriateness of adopted technologies, information transfers, socioeconomic and cultural sustainability, and monitoring and maintenance of water projects are all interconnected with the level of community participation. This professional project presents an analysis and recommendations for the sustainable development of a local park and its associated wetland resources through effective, relative and meaningful community involvement. Parque Landeta is found just outside the urban zone of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, which is located in the semi-arid Central Highlands of Mexico. Qualitative …

An Analysis Of The Subjective Socioeconomic Scale Among Hispanic Immigrants And Caucasians, Mathew Glen Bowden Jan 2007

An Analysis Of The Subjective Socioeconomic Scale Among Hispanic Immigrants And Caucasians, Mathew Glen Bowden

Theses and Dissertations

Subjective socioeconomic status (SES) has previously been shown to be correlated with a large number of health measures. In this study, the subjective SES measure is modified and translated to measure childhood SES. The subjective SES scale is examined in a participant's hometown, community, and nation. Both an immigrant Hispanic and a Caucasian sample were studied (31 Hispanic males; 42 Hispanic females; 38 Caucasian males, 40 Caucasians females). Childhood SES was the most significant predictor of self-reported health in both sample groups.

Local Networks To Compete In The Global Era. The Italian Smes Experience, Antonia R. Gurrieri, Luca Petruzzellis Jan 2007

Local Networks To Compete In The Global Era. The Italian Smes Experience, Antonia R. Gurrieri, Luca Petruzzellis

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers

This study is concerned with the factors that influence the cooperation among cluster-based firms. Theorists have consistently demonstrated the role and importance of economic externalities, such as knowledge spillovers, within industrial clusters. Less attention has been paid to the investigation of social based externalities, though it has been suggested that these may also accrue from geographical agglomeration. This study explores the development of cooperation between firms operating in a single industry sector and in close proximity. The results suggest that social networking has a greater influence than geographic proximity in facilitating inter-firm co-operation. A semi-structured questionnaire has been developed and …

Passing On The Faith: Transforming Traditions For The Next Generation Of Jews, Christians, And Muslims, James L. Heft S.M. Jan 2007

Passing On The Faith: Transforming Traditions For The Next Generation Of Jews, Christians, And Muslims, James L. Heft S.M.

Religion

From the beginning, the Abrahamic faiths—Judaism, Christianity, and Islam—have stressed the importance of transmitting religious identity from one generation to the next. Today, that sustaining mission has never been more challenged. Will young people have a faith to guide them? How can faith traditions anchor religious attachments in this secular, skeptical culture? The fruit of a historic gathering of scholars and religious leaders across three faiths and many disciplines, this important book reports on the religious lives of young people in today’s world. It’s also a unique inventory of creative and thoughtful responses from churches, synagogues, and mosques working to …

Effects Of Gender, Education, And Age Upon Leaders' Use Of Influence Tactics And Full Range Leadership Behaviors, John E. Barbuto Jr., Susan Fritz, Gina S. Matkin, David B. Marx

Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Faculty Publications

Relationships of gender, age, and education to leadership styles and leaders' influence tactics were examined with 56 leaders and 234 followers from a variety of organizations. Leadership behaviors were measured with the Multi-factor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ—rater version). Influence tactics were measured with Yukl’s Influence Behavior Questionnaire (IBQ). Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) was used to test behavioral differences attributed to leaders' gender, age, and education groups, as well as the interaction of age and education with gender. Results show that gender produced a small direct effect on leadership behaviors. The interaction of gender and education produced consistent differences in leadership …
