An Exploratory Study Of The Affect Of Role Strain And The Juvenile Justice System's Division In Power On Juvenile Probation Officers, Kirsten W. Parker-Smith
Theses & Honors Papers
This exploratory, qualitative study reports on the experiences of 20 participants currently working within the juvenile justice system. The study investigated whether role strain was present among juvenile probation officers (POs) in an unspecified, Mid-Atlantic state. This study examines probation officers' role as it relates to the division in power between the state agency which employs the juvenile POs and the local juvenile courts in which they work closely with local judges. The state agency's move to standardize was also explored in relation to an increase in role strain for juvenile probation officers. The expected role strain did not appear …

Characteristics Of Repeat Offenders At The Cumberland County Jail In 2005, George Shaler Mph
Characteristics Of Repeat Offenders At The Cumberland County Jail In 2005, George Shaler Mph
Maine Statistical Analysis Center
This brief addresses the following question: What are the characteristics of repeat offenders at the Cumberland County Jail? In 2006, Cumberland County hired the Muskie School of Public Service to help provide information for county planning purposes. The Muskie School examined the characteristics of individuals booked more than once at the Cumberland County Jail in 2005.
Of the 10,260 bookings at the Cumberland County Jail in 2005, 4,617 (45%) were individuals with more than one booking. A booking, whether for someone being pre-arraigned, being held for trial, or sentenced, consumes limited jail resources. Clearly for public safety purposes, many crimes …

Community Health Faculty Publications and Presentations
Finding solutions to complex health problems, such as obesity, violence, and climate change, will require radical changes in cross-disciplinary education, research, and practice. The fundamental determinants of health include many interrelated factors such as poverty, culture, education, environment, and government policies. However, traditional public health training has tended to focus more narrowly on diseases and risk factors, and has not adequately leveraged the rich contributions of sociology, anthropology, economics, geography, communication, political science, and other disciplines. Further, students are often not sufficiently trained to work across sectors to translate research findings into effective, large-scale sustainable actions. During the past 2 …
Ict And Employer-Employee Power Dynamics: A Comparative Perspective Of United States' And Netherlands' Workplace Privacy In Light Of Information And Computer Technology Monitoring And Positioning Of Employees, 25 J. Marshall J. Computer & Info. L. 37 (2007), Colette Cuijpers
UIC John Marshall Journal of Information Technology & Privacy Law
Employees can cause harm to their employers through Information and Computer Technology (ICT) in employment relationships; for example, through surfing for adult material on the Internet or leaking company secrets via a mobile phone. Employers have responded to this development by introducing various surveillance systems. Besides well-known forms of Internet and e-mail surveillance, positioning systems are becoming a new trend. The influence these systems have on the employment relationship can be far-reaching, as they offer the employer an insight into the employee’s whereabouts, outside the company premises as well as outside company hours. As a consequence, the boundaries between the …
