Service Quality Attributes Affecting Customer Satisfaction For Bus Transit, Laura Eboli, Gabriella Mazzulla Sep 2007

Service Quality Attributes Affecting Customer Satisfaction For Bus Transit, Laura Eboli, Gabriella Mazzulla

Journal of Public Transportation

In this article a tool for measuring customer satisfaction in public transport is proposed. Specifically, a structural equation model is formulated to explore the impact of the relationship between global customer satisfaction and service quality attributes. The public transport service analyzed is the bus service habitually used by University of Calabria students to reach the campus from the urban area of Cosenza (southern Italy). To calibrate the model, some data collected in a survey addressed to a sample of students were used. The proposed model can be useful both to transport agencies and planners to analyze the correlation between service …

Electronic Service Quality: Public Transport Information On The Internet, Lars Eriksson, Margareta Friman, Ann-Catrin Norman

Journal of Public Transportation

As public transport companies market new self-service technologies, it has become increasingly important to understand the factors affecting the users’ perceived service quality of these services. Electronic Service Quality has been broadly defined as encompassing all phases of a customer’s interaction with a website. The E-S-QUAL scale comprises four dimensions. This article investigates the importance of three of the suggested quality dimensions (efficiency, system availability, and fulfillment) for overall satisfaction when using information-based websites. A survey was conducted with respondents being asked to use and evaluate an existing website delivering public transport information in their region. The results revealed that …

Brief Therapy: The Process Of Change And Episodes Of Care, J. Scott Fraser, Andy Solovey Sep 2007

Brief Therapy: The Process Of Change And Episodes Of Care, J. Scott Fraser, Andy Solovey

School of Professional Psychology Faculty Publications

Brief therapy seems to be all the rage today. In most countries, third party payers, government health bodies, and service provider agencies are increasingly demanding “cost-benefit” or “cost-effectiveness” support for all outpatient psychotherapy. Employers supporting employee assistance programs, to help workers through life difficulties, are equally interested in the most time-effective interventions to retain valued employees and restore their productivity. In truth, it is the rare client who wouldn’t choose a treatment promising the quickest resolution to their distress. Yet, what is brief therapy, and is the pressure to practice it causing more problems for practitioners than the approach promises …

Evaluation As Pedagogy: Models Of Theological And Pastoral Formation, Vivian Ligo Sep 2007

Evaluation As Pedagogy: Models Of Theological And Pastoral Formation, Vivian Ligo

Journal of Catholic Education

This essay proposes that there is one process but many points of departure for religious education. Each point of departure requires its own construction to facilitate learning. The constructs presented are Bloom’s taxonomy of learning outcomes in the cognitive domain, Groome’s “shared Christian praxis,” the lectio divina, the Ignatian rules of discernment, and the method in ministry of the Whiteheads. The theory proposed found validation in the task of evaluating written assignments of the candidates to the permanent diaconate of an archdiocese.

Causation In Tort: General Populations Vs. Individual Cases, Cass R. Sunstein, William Meadow Sep 2007

Causation In Tort: General Populations Vs. Individual Cases, Cass R. Sunstein, William Meadow

Coase-Sandor Institute for Law & Economics Research Paper Series

To establish causation, a tort plaintiff must show that it is "more probable than not" that the harm would not have occurred if the defendant had followed the relevant standard of care. Statistical evidence, based on aggregate data, is sometimes introduced to show that the defendant's conduct created a statistically significant increase in the likelihood that the harm would occur. But there is a serious problem with the use of such evidence: It does not establish that in the particular case, the injury was more likely than not to have occurred because the defendant behaved negligently. Under existing doctrine, a …

Sympathy And The Non-Human: Max Scheler’S Phenomenology Of Interrelation, David Dillard-Wright Sep 2007

Sympathy And The Non-Human: Max Scheler’S Phenomenology Of Interrelation, David Dillard-Wright

Faculty Publications

German phenomenologist and sociologist Max Scheler accorded sympathy a central role in his philosophy, arguing that sympathy enables not only ethical behaviour, but also knowledge of animate and inanimate others. Influenced by Catholicism and especially St Francis, Scheler envisioned a broad, cosmic sympathy forming the hidden basis for all human values, with the “higher” religious, artistic, philosophic and other cultural values enabled by a more basic regard for non-human nature and insights gained from the human situation within the non-human world. Sympathy for the non-human is thus both integral and fundamental to the cultivation of other values in the development …

Understanding Recent Trends In House Prices And Home Ownership, Robert J. Shiller Sep 2007

Understanding Recent Trends In House Prices And Home Ownership, Robert J. Shiller

Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers

This paper looks at a broad array of evidence concerning the recent boom in home prices, and considers what this means for future home prices and the economy. It does not appear possible to explain the boom in terms of fundamentals such as rents or construction costs. A psychological theory, that represents the boom as taking place because of a feedback mechanism or social epidemic that encourages a view of housing as an important investment opportunity, fits the evidence better. Three case studies of past booms are considered for comparison: the US housing boom of 1950, the US farmland boom …

Leadership In The Classroom: Closing The Achievement Gap Through Motivation, Janis Estrella Sep 2007

Leadership In The Classroom: Closing The Achievement Gap Through Motivation, Janis Estrella

Honors College Theses

Implementing motivation strategies in elementary urban public schools can be challenging because of contextual factors such as socioeconomic status, race/ethnicity, culture, physical and emotional health, and prior learning experiences. This thesis focuses on 1) how urban public school teachers can effectively motivate their students in spite of these factors, and 2)whether their motivation efforts really influence students' desire to achieve. Interview protocols and a survey instrument will be probed, and data will be collected from New York City public school teachers and from their general education elementary school students. The results of the study can be used to customize motivational …

Patient Involvement In Patient Safety: What Factors Influence Patient Participation And Engagement?, Rachel Davis, Rosamond Jacklin, Nick Sevdalis, Charles A. Vincent Sep 2007

Patient Involvement In Patient Safety: What Factors Influence Patient Participation And Engagement?, Rachel Davis, Rosamond Jacklin, Nick Sevdalis, Charles A. Vincent

Faculty Publications

BACKGROUND: Patients can play an important role in improving patient safety by becoming actively involved in their health care. However, there is a paucity of empirical data on the extent to which patients take on such a role. In order to encourage patient participation in patient safety we first need to assess the full range of factors that may be implicated in such involvement. OBJECTIVE: To delineate factors that could affect the participation of the patient in quality and safety issues in their health care. METHOD: Literature review of patient involvement in health care, drawing from direct evidence (specifically from …
