Increased Abundance Of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi In Soil Coincides With The Reproductive Stages Of Maize, M. Susana Grigera, Rhae A. Drijber, Brian J. Wienhold

Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications

Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi are recognized for their positive effects on plant growth, playing an important role in plant P nutrition. We used C16:1cis11 and C18:1cis11 fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) biomarkers to monitor the dynamics of AM fungi during the reproductive stages of maize (Zea mays L.) grown at high yield in Nebraska, USA. Two fields with four different levels of P availability were sampled throughout the reproductive stages. Chambers, made of PVC enclosed mesh fabric to allow passage of roots and hyphae(+R) or hyphae alone (-R) and amended with either KH2PO …

Adaptation And Mitigation Strategies In Agriculture: An Analysis Of Potential Synergies, Cynthia Rosenzweig, Francesco Nicola Tubiello Apr 2007

Adaptation And Mitigation Strategies In Agriculture: An Analysis Of Potential Synergies, Cynthia Rosenzweig, Francesco Nicola Tubiello

United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration: Publications

As climate changes due to rising concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, agriculture will be one of the key human activities affected. Projections show that while overall global food production in the coming decades may keep pace with the food requirements of a growing world population, climate change might worsen existing regional disparities because it will reduce crop yields mostly in lands located at lower latitudes where many developing countries are situated. Strategies to enhance local adaptation capacity are therefore needed to minimize climatic impacts and to maintain regional stability of food production. At the same time, agriculture as …

Structural Equation Model Of Exercise In Women Utilizing The Theory Of Unpleasant Symptoms And Social Cognitive Variables, Sarah Elizabeth Cobb

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

A dramatic decline in physical activity levels occurs from adolescence to young adulthood. Those who were sedentary as adolescents tend to maintain a sedentary lifestyle. Women are particularly vulnerable to the effects of a sedentary lifestyle because of the risk for cardiovascular disease. The purpose of this research was to test a theoretical model of exercise in adolescent and young adult women using the theory of unpleasant symptoms with social cognitive variables and then to test a revised model that was determined a priori. The central hypotheses were that the relationships as depicted in the proposed theoretical models would be …
