Development Of A Set Of Forage Standard To Estimate In Vivo Digestibility Of Forages And Prediction Of Forage Quality Of Diets Consumed By Cattle Grazing Nebraska Sandhills Range Pastures, Bobbi Gene Geisert
Department of Animal Science: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
In beef cattle productions systems, feed costs accounts for the majority of production costs. In year-round grazing systems, knowledge of diet quality is important for supplement formulation and predicting animal response in order to meet production goals without increasing feeding costs. The objectives of these two trials were: to develop a set of feed standards to use in in vitro laboratory procedures to estimate in vivo digestibility of forages, determine the effect of moisture, day, and grazing level on diet quality, and develop prediction equations to estimate diet quality using the variables moisture, day and grazing level. Trial 1 used …
A Global Land Use And Biomass Approach To Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Fossil Fuel Use And To Preserve Biodiversity, Arthur Riedacker
A Global Land Use And Biomass Approach To Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Fossil Fuel Use And To Preserve Biodiversity, Arthur Riedacker
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
As average growth consumptions per capita and world population will continue to grow, the promotion of sustainable developments during the next half a century implies to take into account environmental aspects, local potentialities and futures changes in population as well climatic, economic and social factors. At the global level, land and fossil fuel availability per capita, capacity of absorption of greenhouse gas emissions are considered the most important environmental factors. Whereas at local levels are to be considered preservation or improvement of soil fertility, of water regimes, of quality of air, soil and water. Biodiversity must be taken into account …

Transitions Into And Out Of The Wic Program: A Cause For Concern?, Alison Jacknowitz, Laura Tiehen
Transitions Into And Out Of The Wic Program: A Cause For Concern?, Alison Jacknowitz, Laura Tiehen
University of Kentucky Center for Poverty Research Discussion Paper Series
Despite the health benefits of participation in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), many eligible households do not participate in WIC during pregnancy and others exit WIC after a child turns one year old. This research uses the first two waves of the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study-Birth Cohort (ECLS-B) to advance our understanding of these transitions into and out of WIC. Findings suggest that those who exhibit better economic health across a variety of dimensions are more likely to delay entry into the program or exit after a child turns one year of age.

Milk Protein Fouling In A Tubular Heat Exchanger: Effect Of Milk Temperature And Reynolds Number, D.H.G. Pelegrine, K.F. Oliveira, M.T.M.S. Gomes
Heat Exchanger Fouling and Cleaning VII
In the present work, β-lactoglobulin fouling phenomenon was studied, when milk flowed in a tubular heat exchanger, where hot water was used to raise milk temperature. Experiments have been carried out to determine the effect of Reynolds number and fluid temperature in whey protein fouling, in a tubular heat exchanger and the results showed that fouling increases as the fluid temperature increases. In addition, as the Reynolds number increases, the total amount of fouling (obtained by integrating the whole amount of deposit down the tube dividing by the total area) decreased.

Citizens for Peace
Dr. Deepak Choprah's keynote address at the National Department of Peace Conference in Washington, D.C. in Feb. 2007.
He went on to say that it is impossible to solve all the world’s problems one at a time. Whatever is happening out there is a projection of what is happening in our collective souls. Today, there is a very deep distress in our collective consciousness. We need a shift in our collective consciousness in order to make real changes in the world.
• We need to evolve into a new way of being. In the history of humanity, there has always …

What Predicts Adjustment Among College Students? A Longitudinal Panel Study, Mary E. Pritchard, Gregory S. Wilson, Ben Yamnitz
What Predicts Adjustment Among College Students? A Longitudinal Panel Study, Mary E. Pritchard, Gregory S. Wilson, Ben Yamnitz
Psychological Sciences Faculty Publications and Presentations
Previous studies have reported that law students and medical students experience significant distress during their first year. We suspect that freshmen undergraduates might experience similar distress in their transition to college. This study examines the impact of the undergraduate experience on freshmen. Data replicate the declines reported in law and medical students’ psychological and physical health. Negative coping tactics and perfectionism predicted poorer physical health and alcohol use at the end of the year. However, optimism and self-esteem predicted better physical and psychological outcomes.

Walking Age Does Not Explain Term Versus Preterm Difference In Bone Geometry, Haifa Abou Samra, Bonny Specker
Walking Age Does Not Explain Term Versus Preterm Difference In Bone Geometry, Haifa Abou Samra, Bonny Specker
Ethel Austin Martin Program Publications
OBJECTIVE: To elucidate the relationship between bone geometry and onset of walking in former term and preterm children.
STUDY DESIGN: We conducted a cross-sectional study of 128 preschool children aged 3 to 5 years who underwent peripheral quantitative computerized tomography measures of bone size at the distal tibia. Linear models were developed, stratifying by sex, to determine whether bone differences between children born term and preterm were caused by differences in walking age.
RESULTS: Children with a history of preterm birth walked later than children born at term (12.4 +/- 0.5 versus 10.9 +/- 0.2 months; P = .004); however, …

Há Alternativas Ao Uso Dos Transgênicos?, Hugh Lacey
Philosophy Faculty Works
Whether or not there are alternatives to using transgenics, that would be able to satisfy the world's food and nutrition needs, remains open to further scientific investigation. The necessity for using transgenics is not currently well based on available scientific knowledge, in part because the achievements and potential of agroecology have received insufficient scientific attention.
