The formulation and implementation of economic reforms generate winners and losers. The former are normally silent, the latter critically vociferous because the trickle-down benefits of growth come too late. The leader who ignores populist sentiments places himself in political peril and, at times, is tempted to adopt statist policies built upon nationalisation. The consequence is economic stagnation. To minimise the zero sum effect of economic reform a policy mix that ensures political stability through growth and social welfare has to be crafted. This paper evaluates the argument that Kosovo’s situation represents a precedent for separatists elsewhere by comparing it to the four regions in the Former Soviet Union most often cited in relation to it and is intended to highlight the similarities and differences between these cases, to facilitate negotiations on the resolution of the final status of Kosovo.

The late 20th and early 21st centuries shifted significantly from their Postmodern bearings in their search for new meaning, new ideologies, and new gods. One such shift resides in the contestation of the meaning of the feminine body and its corresponding gender, or more often, the lack thereof. Feminist theories of essentialism and constructivism, after years of battle over the delegation of the sexed flesh, were reinvigorated by Donna J. One of the most intriguing avatars of the "conspiracy theory narrative" is when the narrative eschews the designation of fiction altogether and adopts the trope of journalism. In fact, we can imagine any individual conspiracy theory narrative as adhering to a continuum which stretches from those narratives that are self-consciously packaged as fictions, such as The Da Vinci Code (2003), Foucault's Pendulum (1988), or The Crying of Lot 49 (1966) on one end of the continuum, for example, and those narratives that project themselves as putatively "journalistic investigations" on the other. Land Surface Temperature And Emissivity Retrieval From Thermal Infrared Hyperspectral Imaging, Marvin Boonmee

A new algorithm, optimized land surface temperature and emissivity retrieval (OLSTER), is presented to compensate for atmospheric effects and retrieve land surface temperature (LST) and emissivity from airborne thermal infrared hyperspectral data. The OLSTER algorithm is designed to retrieve properties of both natural and man-made materials. Multi-directional or multi-temporal observations are not required, and the scenes do not have to be dominated by blackbody features. The OLSTER algorithm consists of a preprocessing step, an iterative search for nearblackbody pixels, and an iterative constrained optimization loop. Obesity is associated with a state of chronic, low-grade inflammation characterized by abnormal cytokine production and macrophage infiltration into adipose tissue, which may contribute to the development of insulin resistance. During immune responses, tissue infiltration by macrophages is dependent on the expression of osteopontin, an extracellular matrix protein and proinflammatory cytokine that promotes monocyte chemotaxis and cell motility. In the present study, we used a murine model of diet-induced obesity to examine the role of osteopontin in the accumulation of adipose tissue macrophages and the development of insulin resistance during obesity.
