Coagulation Effects On Aerosol Dynamics Along An Isothermal Vertical Flat Plate, Chang-Bin Huang, Cherng-Shing Lin, Shih-Cheng Wang Aug 2007

Coagulation Effects On Aerosol Dynamics Along An Isothermal Vertical Flat Plate, Chang-Bin Huang, Cherng-Shing Lin, Shih-Cheng Wang

Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan

Aerosol dynamic behavior in a turbulent flow field is investigated in this study. The flow field is a natural convection boundary layer flow adjacent to a heated or cooled vertical flat plate. The main computational method is based on a boundary layer type solution combining the flow field and sectional aerosol simulation. The SIMPLE alogrithm is adopted to solve the flow continuity, momentum, energy, and aerosol concentration equations. Various aerosol dynamic transport and removal mechanisms, including fluid convection, Brownian motion, gravitational settling, thermophoretic drift, and coagulation of aerosols, are considered in the simulation model. Aerosol coagulation effects on particle transport …

The primary purpose of this current study was (a) to determine if significant differences existed in sexual and contraceptive behaviors of the Christian university sampled and the secular collegiate institutions in the reference group, and (b) to understand if differences existed within the Christian sample, using data from the spring 2006 American College Health Association-National College Assessment (ACHANCHA, n = 94,806). Participants in the Christian sample were pulled from the reference group sample and broken down into Environmental Group (EG, n = 46) participants (those not endorsing a relationship with Jesus Christ as important), and the Religious Group1 (RG1 , …

Trap, Escape And Vision Integration: Key Adaptive Challenges Of Leadership In Conflict, Tin Muang Than Aug 2007

Trap, Escape And Vision Integration: Key Adaptive Challenges Of Leadership In Conflict, Tin Muang Than

Student Scholarship

The paper identifies trap, escape and vision integration as adaptive challenges to leadership in conflict, particularly in the context of Burma, where military government and elected parties have been in political impasse since 1990 elections. International sanctions and constructive engagement strategies have failed to bring the parties to the table. Burmese opposition leaders have found that other parties are simply unwilling to begin negotiations. In this context, what can opposition leaders do when a major actor of conflict is reluctant to enter into negotiation? Concepts are mainly drawn from theories of leadership, conflict and group. The research objective is to …

School of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences: Faculty Publications

Escherichia coli O157:H7 is an important food-borne pathogen and cause of hemorrhagic colitis and hemolytic uremic syndrome in humans. Cattle are an important reservoir of E. coli O157:H7, in which the organism colonizes the intestinal tract and is shed in the feces. Vaccination of cattle has significant potential as a pre-harvest intervention strategy for E. coli O157:H7; however, basic information about the bovine immune responses to important bacterial colonization factors resulting from infection has not been reported. The serum and fecal IgG and IgA antibody responses of adult cattle to E. coli O157:H7 intimin, translocated intimin receptor (Tir), E. coli …

Small Satellite Conference

The Multi-Application Survivable Tether (MAST) Experiment utilizes three tethered picosatellites to study the survivability of space tether structures and materials in the low Earth orbit environment. The MAST picosatellites initially deployed as a single body from a CubeSat PPOD deployer were designed to subsequently deploy a 1,000 meter long multi-line "Hoytether" between two of the picosatellites. The third picosatellite will then slowly crawl up and down the tether photographing it and transmitting the pictures to a ground station. Analysis of these photographs will provide data on how the micrometeoroid and orbital debris environment damage the tether structure. Additionally, each of …

Tacsat-2: A Story Of Survival, Charles Finley, Neal Peck

Small Satellite Conference

With the launch of TacSat-2, the Operationally Responsive Space (ORS) program has its first on-orbit asset and the ORS community finally gets an opportunity to transition from talking about the benefits of responsive space to demonstrating them. TacSat-2, however, is far from a pure ORS spacecraft and its relevance and utility is far from restricted to the ORS arena. The spacecraft that became TacSat-2 had its origins in a formation flying program called TechSat-21. Though the TechSat-21 program was cancelled, much of the basic spacecraft design survived and reemerged under the name of Roadrunner. Roadrunner was supposed to demonstrate how …
