Geiska Baker is the author of this edited transcription of Dr. Sandra Rosenbloom’s presentation at the CRP Department on May 11, 2006. Dr. Rosenbloom thesis is that transportation planning must meet different needs from different users, and be able to respond to market segmentation. She discussed the importance of identifying the travel patterns of older women in planning for an aging population and presented research information from the US and Great Britain

Individual Spiritual Orientation At Work: A Conceptualization And Measure, Tripti Singh, R K Premarajan

This manuscript researches and reports the importance ef measuring spiritual orientation in individuals. After conceptualizing spiritual orientation, an attempt has been made to construct and validate a scale to measure it. An 18-items Likerts' type scale has been developed, using the confirmatory factor analysis. The goodness of fit index is .90 for the six dimensions of spiritual orientation, which are: 1) Service towards humankind; 2) Feeling of inner peace and calm; 3) Being vision and value led; 4) Inter-connectedness; 5) Respect for others; 6) Self-awareness. A construct validity test has been conducted using Maslach and Jackson's burnout inventory. Five dimensions …

This study estimated the prevalence of diagnosed dementia among Indiana Medicaid beneficiaries in 2004. The dependence of prevalence estimates upon use of several patient selection criteria to identify patients with dementia also was evaluated.

Issues in Religion and Psychotherapy

Gratitude has recently received a significant amount of research attention in the emerging field of positive psychology. Gratitude interventions are being empirically validated and are showing great promise in enhancing life satisfaction, decreasing depression and anxiety, coping with adversity, facilitating relationships, building civic and moral aspirations and behaviors, and promoting physiological benefits as well. This article will tie the empirical literature to an LDS theology that has long taught and currently advoactes for the cultivation of gratitude as an essential component of a spiritually based, meaningful, and happy life. Successful inclusion of assistive technology in intervention is limited by training and the level of comfort with technology of treating occupational therapists. Experienced and new therapists need exposure and training on high technology assistive devices newly introduced on the market. The purpose of the study was to identify the effect of a PowerPoint presentation to introduce an emerging high technology device on two groups: 30 licensed occupational therapists and 27 students in an entry level master of occupational therapy program. Immune senescence contributes to influenza-associated high mortality and morbidity and reduced vaccine efficacy in elderly people. Type I T cell (Thl)-mediated immunity plays a significant role in Immune responses to influenza infection and vaccination. Natural killer (NK) cells secrete significant amount of IFN-7 , a hallmark Thl cytokine, in response to influenza infection. How aging influences human NK cell IFN-7 production in response to influenza virus has not been well documented. This study determined if vital tooth whitening affects oral health-related quality of life (OHRQOL) in adults ≥50-years old, and if tooth whitening promotes individuals to seek regular professional dental care and participation in social activities. Using a two-group, single blind, randomized, pre-test-post-test design, 62 participants were enrolled. The experimental group used a whitening product twice daily for three weeks, while the control group used no whitening products. Tooth color satisfaction was assessed using the Tooth Color Satisfaction Scale and was correlated with overall oral health-related quality of life. Research suggests that with baby boomers reaching the age of the retirement, life expectancy rising, and the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease, caregiving roles are almost becoming an established aspect of family obligation (Hoyert 2000). The purpose of this study is to examine and measure the willingness of caregivers to either help with or completely perform the necessary caregiving tasks required by the Alzheimer's.

It is clear that caring for people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia is a growing public health issue. Alzheimer’s is a progressively deteriorating disease that can last anywhere from 1 to 15 years. Families are the primary caregivers and will continue to need support to manage the care of their loved ones, to coordinate services within the long term care system and to maintain their own health and well-being.
