This article presents a research study developed in a Primary School (3 to 12 years) in the county of Murcia (South east of Spain). The study’s aim was to establish the educational response carried out with learners with special education needs in the school. The theoretical framework reviews the course of school integration in Spain and establishes the need to work from a curricular model. The results of this study, which follows the qualitative analysis model by Doyle (1979, 1986, 1987), show the organization structures and tasks that promote participation and integration of students with special education needs in mainstream …

Full Scale Instrumented Testing And Analysis Of Matting Systems For Airfield Parking Ramps And Taxiways, Chad A. Gartrell
Full Scale Instrumented Testing And Analysis Of Matting Systems For Airfield Parking Ramps And Taxiways, Chad A. Gartrell
Theses and Dissertations
The U.S. military requires the ability to rapidly deploy troops, equipment, and materials anywhere in the world. Recent operations have brought attention to the need to utilize austere, unsurfaced, and sometimes sub-standard airfields within a theater of interest. These airfields may require additional taxiways and aprons. One option for the rapid construction of such is airfield matting systems. The focus of the work for this thesis was commercially available airfield matting systems to support large military transport aircraft, such as the C 17. Several test sections with differing strength soils were built with chosen mats tested in an elimination method, …

Sugar Hill: Architectural, Cultural And Historic Significance Of An Early Twentieth Century African American Neighborhood In New Orleans, Louisiana, Niala Lynn Howard
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Across the United States, efforts are being made to document African American history and its contribution to the development of this country. At all levels of government and through individual research, attempts are being made to recognize and pay tribute to the role of the Black American. These efforts involve documenting the architectural, cultural, historical, scientific, and social contributions. In New Orleans, the Black American played a major role in the development of the city. For most of the 20th century, African Americans have been the majority of the population. However, little has been done to document their rich architectural …
Louisiana Intech Professional Development: Middle School Administrators' Perceptions Of Change As Related To Student Achievement, Diane R. Mason
Louisiana Intech Professional Development: Middle School Administrators' Perceptions Of Change As Related To Student Achievement, Diane R. Mason
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
School accountability requires administrators and policymakers to implement sound programs that sustain school improvement. Hundreds of Louisiana teachers participate in Louisiana Integration of Technology (INTECH) professional development as a strategy to change instructional practice and improve student achievement. The purpose of this quantitative research study was to investigate the Louisiana INTECH professional development model as an impetus for school change and increased student achievement. The study employed a survey and an ex-post facto, causal-comparative design to address the questions: 1) Do middle school administrators perceive the Louisiana INTECH professional development model as an impetus for school change? 2) Does the …
Visual Perception In Traumatic Brain Injury: Effects Of Severity And Effort, Luis Aguerrevere
Visual Perception In Traumatic Brain Injury: Effects Of Severity And Effort, Luis Aguerrevere
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Previous studies have found that poor effort can significantly impact psychometric performance by Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) patients. So far, this impact has been relatively well studied in attention and memory. However, this is not the case for visual perception functions. Thus, the goal of this study was to determine to what extent TBI severity affect visual perception after controlling for effort. Results showed that mild TBI good effort group did not differ from a demographically matched control group. In contrast, a mild TBI poor effort group, a moderate-severe TBI group and a right hemisphere cerebro-vascular (CVA) group performed worse …

Exploring The Assessment Aspect Of Differentiated Instruction: College Efl Learners' Perspectives On Tiered Performance Tasks, Yeh-Uh Hsueh Chen
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
If human beings are believed to be individually unique, why are students evaluated with standardized tests? Differentiated instruction, honoring individual differences of each learner, provides an alternative answer to the question by employing tiered performance tasks to address personal needs in assessment situations. To explore the applicability of differentiated instruction in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) environment, this case study explored Taiwanese college students’ perspectives on tiered performance tasks and educational implications of the perspectives with regard to EFL learning and teaching at the tertiary level. Grounded in the humanistic stance of education and sociocultural view of learning, …

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Although awareness of cultural diversity is slowly occurring, the need for multicultural curricula is increasing more each day as even more ethnically and linguistically diverse students enter into United States classrooms. The education of English Language Learners is a controversial topic due to people's mixed beliefs on the amount of English and primary language instruction needed to aid students' English language development. Due to the shortage of bilingual teachers many English Language Learners in the Unites States are learning English through the regular education classroom instructed by monolingual English-speaking teachers. This case study implemented qualitative research methods in order to …

Magnetic And Transport Properties Of Oxide Thin Films, Yuanjia Hong
Magnetic And Transport Properties Of Oxide Thin Films, Yuanjia Hong
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
My dissertation research focuses on the investigation of the transport and magnetic properties of transition metal and rare earth doped oxides, particularly SnO2 and HfO2 thin films. Cr- and Fe-doped SnO2 films were deposited on Al2O3 substrates by pulsed-laser deposition. Xray- diffraction patterns (XRD) show that the films have rutile structure and grow epitaxially along the (101) plane. The diffraction peaks of Cr-doped samples exhibit a systematic shift toward higher angles with increasing Cr concentration. This indicates that Cr dissolves in SnO2. On the other hand, there is no obvious shift of the diffraction peaks of the Fe-doped samples. The …

Hearing Adam: Gender Relationships In The Short Fiction Of Caroline Gordon., Linda Elaine Hipple
Hearing Adam: Gender Relationships In The Short Fiction Of Caroline Gordon., Linda Elaine Hipple
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Writer and critic Caroline Gordon has been a participant on the Southern literary scene since the early 1930s, yet her works have been neither studied nor appreciated as frequently as the works of her male contemporaries. Her novels and short fiction never received the critical acclaim that they merited due to the perpetuation of the erroneous idea that women have little to say. While at the time other female writers were exploring their emancipation, Gordon retreated to the consistent confines of male-dominated tradition and created fiction embodying her conservative philosophy. This thesis will examine five pieces of her short fiction, …
