Liu et al. (Reports, March 23, 2007, p. 1712) reported that the Arabidopsis thaliana gene GCR2 encodes a seven-transmembrane, G protein–coupled receptor for abscisic acid. We argue that GCR2 is not likely to be a transmembrane protein nor a G protein–coupled receptor. Instead, GCR2 is most likely a plant homolog of bacterial lanthionine synthetases.

We search for the production of single top quarks via flavor-changing-neutral-current couplings of a gluon to the top quark and a charm (c) or up (u) quark. We analyze 230 pb-1 of lepton + jets data from pp̅ collisions at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We observe no significant deviation from standard model predictions, and hence set upper limits on the anomalous coupling parameters Kgc/ Λ and Kgu/ Λ, where Kg define the strength of tcg and tug couplings, and Λ defines the scale of new physics. …

This edition of the Wooster Voice was published on November 9 of 2007, and it is eight pages long. 11.3 million dollars are being put towards the beautification of Beall Ave. The local elections from early November were dominated by Republican party popularity. The International Program in Babcock is beginning to advertise their events this year in order to gain more popularity. Students had to evacuate Lowry mid dinner on Friday night due to a staff member smelling a possible gas leak. Micro Rna 145 Targets The Insulin Receptor Substrate-1 And Inhibits The Growth Of Colon Cancer Cells, Bin Shi, Laura Sepp-Lorenzino, Marco Prisco, Peter Linsley, Tiziana Deangelis, Renato Baserga
Department of Cancer Biology Faculty Papers
The insulin receptor substrate-1 (IRS-1), a docking protein for both the type 1 insulin-like growth factor receptor (IGF-IR) and the insulin receptor, is known to send a mitogenic, anti-apoptotic, and anti-differentiation signal. Several micro RNAs (miRs) are suggested by the data base as possible candidates for targeting IRS-1. We show here that one of the miRs predicted by the data base, miR145, whether transfected as a synthetic oligonucleotide or expressed from a plasmid, causes down-regulation of IRS-1 in human colon cancer cells. IRS-1 mRNA is not decreased by miR145, while it is down-regulated by an siRNA targeting IRS-1. Targeting of …

Surf Tv, Steven Classen
Surf Tv, Steven Classen
Faculty Publications - Department of Communication and Cinematic Arts
I watch TV, and sometimes quickly push the buttons on my remote, but don’t really surf. Mostly I wade—recognizing my limitations and lack of necessary zeal. Years ago, when a faculty colleague made a good-natured jibe about me as a coastal town “surfer boy,” I took no offense or effort to correct him. But the fact is, despite my great love of water, sand, and all things beachy, I have never, in the local parlance, actually “picked up the stick.” I’m convinced that the sport of surfing ocean waves, as opposed to surfing television channels, is an activity for only …

Nevada Risk Assessment/Management Program
Work conducted in this 4th quarter consisted of 3 major activities:
• Continue the receipt and reconciliation of Area 5 Radioactive Waste Management Site (RWMS) inventory data.
• Receive, review, install, calibrate, and run the Goldsim Area 5 Performance Assessment (PA) Model, and review the supporting parameters and assumptions in the 93-document reference set as a tool for regulatory compliance and closure assessment.
• Identify, review, and compare the interpretation of pertinent regulatory guidelines and orders by DOE sites in compliance for PA, Compliance Assessment (CA), and closure activities - as they may relate to the Nevada Test Site (NTS) …
Entanglement-Assisted Quantum Error Correction With Linear Optics, Mark M. Wilde, Hari Krovi, Todd A. Brun
Entanglement-Assisted Quantum Error Correction With Linear Optics, Mark M. Wilde, Hari Krovi, Todd A. Brun
Faculty Publications
We construct a theory of continuous-variable entanglement-assisted quantum error correction. We present an example of a continuous-variable entanglement-assisted code that corrects for an arbitrary single-mode error. We also show how to implement encoding circuits using passive optical devices, homodyne measurements, feedforward classical communication, conditional displacements, and off-line squeezers. © 2007 The American Physical Society.

Exercise Induced Hypervolemia: Role Of Exercise Mode, William Bradley Nelson
Exercise Induced Hypervolemia: Role Of Exercise Mode, William Bradley Nelson
Theses and Dissertations
The supine posture has been shown to limit exercise-induced plasma volume expansion. Differences in hydrostatic pressure gradients between the standing and seated position indicate that treadmill exercise might promote a greater plasma volume expansion than cycle ergometer exercise. To test this hypothesis ten subjects performed intermittent high intensity exercise (4 min at 85% VO2max, 5 min at 40% VO2max repeated 8 times) on separate days on the treadmill and cycle ergometer. Changes in plasma volume expansion were calculated from changes in hematocrit and hemoglobin. Stroke volume (SV), trans-thoracic impedance (Z0), HR, and arterial blood pressure (non-invasive arm cuff, SBP & …
