Integrating Game Technology And Discrete Event Simulation To Analyze Mass Casualty Scenarios, Jason Loveland Oct 2007

Integrating Game Technology And Discrete Event Simulation To Analyze Mass Casualty Scenarios, Jason Loveland

Computational Modeling & Simulation Engineering Theses & Dissertations

In the last 10 years, video games have become complex simulation environments with high resolution 3D graphics enabled by powerhouse rendering engines, multi-player client server networks, user friendly displays and graphical user interface , while remaining relatively inexpensive. There is a critical need for systems engineering analysis and rapid trade studies due to changes in operations caused by current events such as terrorist attacks, asymmetric threats, natural disasters, etc. Modem games provide a unique way to visualize and interact with these complex environments, scenarios, missions, and operations. A discrete event simulator (DES) provides an environment to model system architecture behavior, …

Swine Artificial Insemination For Beginners: Heat Detection, Dennis Worwod Oct 2007

Swine Artificial Insemination For Beginners: Heat Detection, Dennis Worwod

All Current Publications

Heat detection is the most important and time consuming part of an A.I. breeding program. Your goal is to recognize when the sow or gilt reaches “standing heat,” which is the period when she stands still and rigid when you put weight on her loin.

Swine Artificial Insemination For Beginners: Ordering And Caring For Semen, Dennis Worwod

All Current Publications

Sows and gilts are usually bred twice, with 12 to 24 hours hours between inseminations. For this reason, boar studs will not ship less than two doses of semen.

You should not attempt to breed a sow or gilt that is not in standing heat. Put weight on the animal’s loin and watch her response to make sure that she is standing.

HIV-1 subtype C is the most common HIV-1 group M subtype in Africa and many parts of Asia. However, to date HIV-1 vaccine candidate immunogens have not induced potent and broadly neutralizing antibodies against subtype C primary isolates. We have used a centralized gene strategy to address HIV-1 diversity, and generated a group M consensus envelope gene with shortened consensus variable loops (CON-S) for comparative studies with wildtype (WT) Env immunogens. Our results indicate that the consensus HIV-1 group M CON-S Env elicited cross-subtype neutralizing antibodies of similar or greater breadth and titer than the WT Envs tested, indicating the …

Vegetation Monitoring

Executive Summary

  • The Weed Sentry program surveyed more than 750 miles of federal lands in Clark County for invasive, exotic plant species.
  • Weed Sentry also removed more than 600,000 individual invasive plants from federal
lands. These removals represent pro-active efforts that may have forestalled large
infestations difficult and costly to eradicate.
  • In response to a request by the manager of the Fish and Wildlife Service Desert National
Wildlife Refuge, a major effort of surveying springs for plant community composition
and invasive plants provided unique knowledge services by the Weed Sentry program.
No such baseline information existed for the Sheep Range. …

Project 1. Relict Leopard Frog Monitoring, Management, and Research

  • Diurnal and nocturnal surveys completed at all natural and translocation sites during the spring – the most striking finding was the lack of frogs observed at Rogers Springs and lower Blue Point despite repeated survey efforts.
  • Relict leopard frog annual translocation effort completed – a total of 1365 late stage tadpoles and 592 post-metamorphic frogs from the head-start facilities were released at existing translocation sites.
  • Mark-recapture effort at Rogers Spring abandoned because of the lack of frogs; assistance provided for a mark-recapture study at upper Blue Point Spring.
  • Potential translocation sites …

Analysis Of A Class Of Distributed Randomized Algorithms On Randomly Changing Network Graphs, Jen-Yeu Chen, Jianghai Hu Sep 2007

Analysis Of A Class Of Distributed Randomized Algorithms On Randomly Changing Network Graphs, Jen-Yeu Chen, Jianghai Hu

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

Dynamical connection graph changes are inherent in networks such as peer-to-peer networks, wireless ad hoc networks, and wireless sensor networks. Considering the influence of the frequent graph changes is thus essential for precisely assessing the performance of applications and algorithms on such networks. With two-fold states, stochastic hybrid systems (SHSs) can effectively model the dynamics of the execution of algorithms on a network with random and frequent graph changes. In this report, using SHSs, we analyze the performance of an epidemic-like algorithm, DRG (Distributed Random Grouping), for average aggregate computation on a wireless sensor network with dynamical graph changes. The …

Population Biology And Monitoring Of The Cuban Hutia At Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Gary W. Witmer, Martin Lowney Sep 2007

Population Biology And Monitoring Of The Cuban Hutia At Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Gary W. Witmer, Martin Lowney

United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications

The Cuban hutia (Capromys pilorides) is the largest native mammal occurring in Cuba. Endemic to the West Indies, most species of hutia are rare or extinct because of over-harvesting, exotic species introductions, and habitat modifications by humans. An exception is Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where the Cuban hutia is very common and is responsible for a variety of damage and conflicts, including damage to landscaping, gnawing through cables, damage to vehicles, the accumulation of large amounts of feces in residential areas, and damage to native vegetation, with little subsequent regeneration of many plant species. Current management focuses on population …

The Efficacy Of Dextran 70 On Reticuloendothelial System In Systemically Infected Mice With Klebsiella Pneumoniae, Jamela Gh. Auda Sep 2007

The Efficacy Of Dextran 70 On Reticuloendothelial System In Systemically Infected Mice With Klebsiella Pneumoniae, Jamela Gh. Auda

Iraqi Postgraduate Medical Journal

ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: The reticuloendothelial system (RES) play an important role in immunity against bacterial infection and Klebsiella pneumoniae one of the most common causes of hospital-acquired infections. Dextran70 (D70), a polysaccharide, may alter functions of this system through changing many biological activities in the tissues. OBJECTIVE: This study focuses on the prophylactic effects of D70 on RES in systemically challenged mice with K. pneumoniae which has been isolated from urine sample of patient with urinary tract infection. METHODS: Four groups of adult white mice were intravenously injected with K.pneumoniae. Three groups of them was preinjected intraperitonealy for three successive days …
