New Immigrant Settlements In Rural America: Problems, Prospects, And Policies, Leif Jensen
New Immigrant Settlements In Rural America: Problems, Prospects, And Policies, Leif Jensen
Carsey Publications
Regions of rural America are being reshaped by growing numbers of immigrants who are choosing small-town life over the bright lights of the big city. This study found that immigrant settlers may have a big impact on small, rural communities—sometimes straining resources but also offering promise for reinvigorating dying communities.

The Relationships Among Trauma, Self-Concept, Dissociation, Cluster B Personality Disorders And Adult Attachment Style In Incarcerated Women, Beatrice Narcisco
The Relationships Among Trauma, Self-Concept, Dissociation, Cluster B Personality Disorders And Adult Attachment Style In Incarcerated Women, Beatrice Narcisco
Individual, Family, and Community Education ETDs
During the last twenty-five years, the number of women who have entered and reentered the criminal justice system has steadily risen. Most of the arrests are made on drug-related charges. To develop a better understanding of women who are incarcerated, this study examined the relationships among trauma, self-concept, dissociation, Cluster B Personality Disorders and adult attachment styles in 77 women from the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Their ethnicity was reported as follows: N=43 Hispanic, N=17 White/Anglo, N=9 Native American, and N=8 Black/African American; their mean age was 34.7 and their mean educational level was 11.5. …

Parent Expectations Of Collegiate Teaching And Caring, W. Wayne Young Jr.
College of Education and Human Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
This exploratory research determined parent expectations of their traditionallyaged student’s postsecondary institution with an investigator developed and validated survey entitled the PECTAC (Parent Expectations of Collegiate Teaching and Caring). The PECTAC instrument was predicated upon a culling from relevant literature to reflect topics and issues related to the teaching and caring functions of a private and religiouslyaffiliated Midwestern university. Parent participants were asked to provide basic demographic information in addition to ranking each item based on perceived importance.
A web-based survey software package was used to collect data from 475 participants. Dependent variables of parent gender and first-time college parent …
Variable Focus Liquid Lens, Shin-Tson Wu, Hongwen Ren
Variable Focus Liquid Lens, Shin-Tson Wu, Hongwen Ren
UCF Patents
A liquid-filled variable focus lens cell is disclosed. The liquid lens cell consists of four parts: a clear distensible membrane, a transparent wall member, liquid with a fixed volume stored in lens cell chamber, and an annular periphery sealing ring. The inner surfaces of the annular sealing ring are sealed with distensible membrane. The radius of the annular sealing ring is changeable, similar to a conventional iris diaphragm. By tuning the radius of the annular sealing ring, the stored liquid in the lens cell will be redistributed, thus change the curvature of the distensible membrane. Therefore, the liquid lens cell …

Stm Tip-Induced Nanostructuring-Replacement Method To Construct Pt Surface Nanostructures, Jin-Gang Wang, Jing Tang, Zhao-Bin Chen, Bing-Wei Mao
Journal of Electrochemistry
STM tip-induced surface nanostructuring based on "Jump-to-contact" mechanism is a nanostructuring technique that has the highest resolution in aqueous solutions. However, for metals that have high cohesive energy, atoms would transfer from surface to tip instead, which limits the wide application of this technique. In this paper,we present a two-step Nanostructuring-Replacement method to construct metal nanoclusters that cannot be obtained directly via the "Jump-to-contact" mechanism. The method is demonstrated to construct Pt nanoclusters that are of great interest in catalysis and electrocatalysis but cannot be constructed via the "Jump-to-contact" mechanism.Since Cu is the most intensively studied and successful system in the tip-induced nanostructuring,it is utilized as …

Reaction Mechanism Of V(Ⅳ)/V(Ⅴ) Redox Couple At Graphite Felt Composite Electrode Bonded With Conductive Carbon Plastic, Xiao-Gang Li, Ke-Long Huang, Su-Qin Liu, Ning Tan, Li-Quan Chen
Journal of Electrochemistry
The rate-determining step of V(Ⅳ) /V(Ⅴ) redoxreaction was investigated at graphite felt(GF)composite electrode by various techniques: cyclic voltammetry, polarization curve and impedance spectroscopy.Cyclic voltammetry analysis indicated that V(Ⅳ) /V(Ⅴ) redox reaction at GF electrode is quasi reversible.Acertain chemical reaction step is suspected to follow the electron transfer step of this reaction. The Tafel slopevalue(0.124) obtained from the polarization curve agrees well with theoretical value(0.12),which supposingthe electron transfer step was the rate-determining step.Impedance Spectroscopies at various potentials werestudied and simulated by equivalentcircuits. The impedance value of the electron transfer step modified is greatlyhigher than the others, which shows that the electron transfer step is the …
The Synthesis, Structure And Electrochemical Performances Of Lithium Iron Phosphate, Hui Xie, Zhen-Tao Zhou
The Synthesis, Structure And Electrochemical Performances Of Lithium Iron Phosphate, Hui Xie, Zhen-Tao Zhou
Journal of Electrochemistry
The lithium iron phosphate cathode materials were synthesized by solid-state reaction combined high-rate ball milling under the temperature ranging from 400 ℃ to 700 ℃.The crystalline structure, morphology of particles, and electrochemical performance of the sample were investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and charge-discharge test. The results showed that the sintering temperature had great influences on the crystal structure, morphology and electrochemical performances of LiFePO4. The sample synthesized under 600℃ showed the best charge-discharge performances with the first specific discharge capacity of(128.8) mAh/g and the 15th specific discharge capacity of 129.1 mAh/g at 0.1C rate, …

Structure And Electrochemical Characteristics Of Lifepo4 Prepared By The Polyacrylates-Pyrolysis-Reduction Method For Li-Ion Batteries, Li-Hong Yu, Yu-Liang Cao, Xiao-Fei Zhang, Han-Xi Yang, Xin-Ping Ai
Journal of Electrochemistry
The cathode material of olivine LiFePO4 was prepared by a novel method of polyacrylate-pyrolysis-reduction.XRD demonstrates that the material have the olivine structure.SEM photo shows an average particle-size of about 100 nm with a well distribution.Electrochemical test of cycling at a constant current reveals the discharge capacity of 138 mAh/g and a good cycling stability. It is a novel practicable technology to prepare LiFePO4 by using polyacrylate-pyrolysis-reduction method.
