As the one year anniversary of the landfall of Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast passed, the highly critical reports of the Bush Administration's mismanagement of the response to that catastrophe continued to mount. Central to the criticism of the Administration was its indecisiveness in deploying military assets to rescue and protect Gulf Coast citizens overwhelmed by one of the country's worst natural disasters. The President failed to act because of a perceived lack of statutory and constitutional authority to override the Louisiana Governor's refusal to allow the Federal government to have ultimate control over the deployment of Federal troops …

Data Management Plans: Stages, Components, And Activities, Abbas S. Tavakoli, Kirby Jackson, Linda Moneyham, Kenneth D. Phillips, Carolyn Murdaugh, Gene Meding
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
Data management strategies have become increasingly important as new computer technologies allow for larger and more complex data sets to be analyzed easily. As a consequence, data management has become a specialty requiring specific skills and knowledge. Many new investigators have no formal training in management of data sets. This paper describes common basic strategies critical to the management of data as applied to a data set from a longitudinal study. The stages of data management are identified. Moreover, key components and strategies, at each stage are described.

Muscle Glycogenolysis And Resynthesis In Response To A Half Ironman Triathlon: A Case Study, Trevor L. Gullum, Charles Dumke, Brent Ruby
Integrative Physiology and Athletic Training Faculty Publications
Purpose : To describe the degrees of muscle-glycogen depletion and resynthesis in response to a half Ironman triathlon. Methods: One male subject (38 years of age) completed the Grand Columbian half Ironman triathlon ( 1.9-km swim, 90-km bike, 21.1-km run, Coulee City, Wash). Three muscle biopsies were obtained from his right vastus lateralis (prerace, immediately postrace, and 4 hours postrace). Prerace and postrace body weight were recorded, in addition to macronutrient consumption before, during, and after the race. Energy expenditure and whole-body substrate oxidation were estimated from linear regression established from laboratory trials (watts and run pace relative to VO(2) …

The purpose of this project was to develop a family mathematics night program that would encourage parental involvement in mathematics education thus, enhancing student achievement in mathematics. Parents attending the program would: (a) become familiar with the current mathematics program used by their children; (b) learn mathematics games to play at home with their children; and (c) be introduced to various child appropriate, mathematics web sites on the Internet. Much of the material presented was recapped in a miniguide to fourth grade mathematics that was given to all the families. This guide is a tool for the parents to use …
