Methylphenidate (MPD), commonly known as Ritalin, is the most frequently prescribed drug to treat children and adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Adolescence is a period of development involving numerous neuroplasticities throughout the central nervous system (CNS). Exposure to a psychostimulant such as MPD during this crucial period of neurodevelopment may cause transient or permanent changes in the CNS. Genetic variability may also influence these differences. Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (aaRSs) are responsible for attaching amino acids to their cognate tRNAs during protein synthesis. In eukaryotes aaRSs are commonly found in multi-enzyme complexes, although the role of these complexes is still not completely clear. Associations between aaRSs have also been reported in archaea, including a complex between prolyl-(ProRS) and leucyl-tRNA synthetases (LeuRS) in Methanothermobacter thermautotrophicus that enhances tRNA^Pro aminoacylation. Yeast two-hybrid screens suggested that lysyl-tRNA synthetase (LysRS) also associates with LeuRS in M. thermautotrophicus. Numerous studies have shown a positive correlation between customer satisfactions and repurchase intention. However, service failure can put companies out of business if attention is not paid to this problem. This study explained the components of service recovery strategies used when service failure occurs in each situation in a hotel, and to link customer response to service recovery strategies to behavioral intention, as applied to the hotel industry in Orlando, Florida.

We report the results of a globally coordinated photometric campaign to search for transits by the P ~ 30 day and P ~ 60 day outer planets of the three-planet system orbiting the nearby M dwarf Gl 876. These two planets experience strong mutual perturbations, which necessitate the use of a dynamical (four-body) model to compute transit ephemerides for the system. Our photometric data have been collected from published archival sources, as well as from our photometric campaigns that were targeted to specific transit predictions. We examine the correlation between globular cluster (GC) color and magnitude using HST/ACS imaging for a sample of 79 early-type galaxies (−21.7 < MB < −15.2 mag) with accurate surfacebrightness fluctuation distances from the ACS Virgo Cluster Survey. Using the KMM mixture modeling algorithm, we find a highly significant correlation, z ≡ d(g−z) dz = −0.037 ± 0.004, between color and magnitude for the subpopulation of blue GCs in the co-added GC color-magnitude diagram of the three brightest Virgo cluster galaxies (M49, M87 and M60). The sense of the correlation is such that brighter GCs are redder than their fainter counterparts. For the single GC systems of M87 and M60, we find similar correlations; M49 does not appear to show a significant trend. There is no correlation between (g − z) and Mz for GCs belonging to the red subpopulation. The correlation g ≡ d(g−z) dg for the blue subpopulation is much weaker than z. Using Monte Carlo simulations, we attribute this finding to the fact that the blue subpopulation in Mg extends to higher luminosities than does the red subpopulation, which biases the KMM fit results. The highly significant correlation between color and Mz, however, is a real effect: this conclusion is supported by biweight fits to the same color distributions. We identify two environmental dependencies which influence the derived color-magnitude relation: (1) the slope of the color-magnitude relation decreases in significance with decreasing galaxy luminosity, although it remains detectable over the full luminosity range of our sample; and (2) the slope is stronger for GC populations located at smaller galactocentric distances. These characteristics suggest that the observed trend is, at least partially, shaped by external agents. We examine several physical mechanisms that might give rise to the observed color-magnitude relation including: (1) presence of contaminants like super-clusters, stripped galactic nuclei, or ultra-compact dwarfs; (2) accretion of GCs from low-mass galaxies; (3) stochastic effects; (4) the capture of field stars by individual GCs; and (5) GC self-enrichment. Although none of these scenarios offers a fully satisfactory explanation of the observations, we conclude that self-enrichment and field-star capture, or a combination of these processes, offer the most promising means of explaining our observations.

Many nitroaromatic compounds (NACs) are considered toxic and potential carcinogens. The purpose of this study was to develop an integrated reductive/oxidative process for treating NAC contaminated waters. The process consists of the combination of zero-valent manganese or iron and a hydroxyl radical based treatment technique. Corrosion promoters were added to the contaminated water to minimize passivation of the metallic species. Water contaminated with 2,4-dinitrotoluen (DNT) was treated with the integrated process using a recirculating batch reactor. It was demonstrated that addition of corrosion promoters to the contaminated water enhanced the rate of reaction of 2,4-DNT with zero-valent iron or manganese. …

Computational investigations were carried out to evaluate the effectiveness and usability of hybrid RANS/LES techniques for predicting the unsteady separated flow over wings with ice accretion. RANS and hybrid RANS/LES computations were performed using the viscous flow solver CHEM with the SST turbulence model. Two configurations were considered during the study: an extruded wing with a glaze-ice shape and a swept wing with a simulated glaze-ice accretion. Hybrid RANS/LES results, in general, predict a less active shear layer ``roll up' than seen in the experimental data. Qualitative improvements are seen in the hybrid RANS/LES results over corresponding RANS results. The …

Oils from soybeans and catfish by-products were extracted using hexane, propane, and supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO2). Free fatty acids (FFA), peroxide values (PV), anisidine values (AnV), total oxidation (TOTOX), induction point (IP), iodine values (IV), and 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) were all measured to analyze oxidation of these oils. The extraction yield of propane, hexane, and SCCO2 oils was 80.4, 94.5, and 90%, in respect to total lipid content. Oils extracted with SCCO2 were more oxidized than those extracted with propane and hexane; probably due to the higher temperature and longer extraction time. The IP correlated with AnV, IV, …

Micro-CHP has the potential to increase the total energy efficiency for cooling, heating, and powering residences, offices, and other relatively small buildings by using waste thermal energy from electricity production to deliver heating and cooling. Efficiently and accurately estimating bandwidths in packet networks is a problem that has intrigued researchers for years. There is no simple manner for estimating bandwidths in IPv4 networks that is accurate, efficient, flexible, and suitable for a variety of applications. Many of the available estimation techniques suffer from inherent flaws such as inaccuracy due to simple assumptions about the network or an overall high complexity that makes it inappropriate in all but a few highly specific situations. Pathogenic microorganisms introduced by cattle may be transported to distant locations via watershed runoff. Escherichia coli, Enterococcus spp., and Streptococcus spp. are a few species present in runoff from land impacted by humans, cattle, and wildlife. Initial data reveals that E. coli concentrations in water are greater in areas impacted by cattle than by humans. And, wildlife contributes greater concentration fluctuations than either humans or cattle. When cattle are removed from a pasture, the bacterial concentrations rapidly decrease; however, slight variations in cattle herd size do not appear to significantly influence these counts.
