Experiential Marketing Of Tourism Destinations, Rick Lagiewski, Bozana Zekan Jan 2006

Experiential Marketing Of Tourism Destinations, Rick Lagiewski, Bozana Zekan

Presentations and other scholarship

Destinations are combination of tourism products, offering an integrated experience to consumers (Buhalis, 1999). Research shows that demand for experiences is a major trend in the tourism industry. Schneider (2004) briefly defined experiential travel as a "travel that enriches the soul while broadening the mind". Tourists are no longer satisfied with traditional services only - they want to go beyond that and have therefore created demand for diversified experiences (Banff Lake Louise Tourism, 2005). This increasing demand for experiences shows that it is no longer enough for destinations to compete with their facilities and amenities, but instead they need to …

A No Moderator Needed: A Liberty Tradition Right To Broadcast Advertorials, Daniel Matheson Jan 2006

A No Moderator Needed: A Liberty Tradition Right To Broadcast Advertorials, Daniel Matheson

UC Law Constitutional Quarterly

Civic republicans have famously noted that the exclusion of relevant viewpoints from public debate undermines the process of democratic deliberation, a concern directly implicated by commercial broadcasters' well-publicized refusals to transmit controversial issue advertisements. Unfortunately, simply noting the failure of our current broadcasting regime to appropriately inform the public does not provide an actionable First Amendment objection. Current doctrine focuses primarily on preserving individual liberty, presupposing that protection of individuals' rights will prove sufficient to safeguard the speech necessary for participatory democracy and leaving little room for active state direction of the proverbial town meeting. If the liberty tradition is …

Urban Space And The Birth Of Punk, Paul. Fletcher Jan 2006

Urban Space And The Birth Of Punk, Paul. Fletcher

Harriet L Wilkes Honors College Theses 2003 - 2009

While the general public agrees that the Sex Pistols were punk--they were dirty, vile, low-class, and they sang crass lyrics--their aesthetics were originally brought into punk by the New York Dolls, by bringing the street into their performance. The New York Dolls were from the New York City streets; they were mediocre musicians, unglamorous, and not at all phantasmagorical. They removed the hierarchy and the bourgeois elements from their performances that had been established by previous New York City bands like the Velvet Underground--who performed as high-class, elitist artists. The New York Dolls destroyed this hierarchy, allowing the audience to …
