Living Photograph Project In Queens, Hillary Miller
Living Photograph Project In Queens, Hillary Miller
Open Educational Resources
I am developing a module for ENGL 371: Twentieth- and Twenty-first Century Drama and Performance. In this course for majors, I have the latitude to choose different topics in my syllabus design. One of the versions I previously developed was organized around “Visions of Home.” In that first attempt I did not successfully connect the material to Queens at any point; in part because none of the plays I selected were based in Queens, I had not figured out how to implement a place-based mode of inquiry of the kind that this workshop explored. The class is organized chronologically (1950s-2000s) …

Romances: A Performer's Guide To Tchaikovsky's Art Songs Through His Queer Sexuality, Nathaniel Reed Himes Mcbride
Romances: A Performer's Guide To Tchaikovsky's Art Songs Through His Queer Sexuality, Nathaniel Reed Himes Mcbride
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
This dissertation explores the art songs of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky through the lens of his queer sexuality by offering performers interpretive strategies that focus on themes of desire, repression, identity, intimacy, and longing. By placing these songs within both their 19th-century cultural context and contemporary queer discourse, the project shows how Tchaikovsky’s musical choices could be interpreted as code of his emotionality and experiences as a queer person. Through historical context, letters, and analyses of selected songs, performers can draw upon layered meanings in choices of phrasing, acting, and staging. Ultimately, this performer’s guide seeks to highlight Tchaikovsky’s arts songs …

i.e.: inquiry in education
The study aimed to examine the effect of supportive language training activities for bilingual children, who were attending state primary schools in Turkey, on their language skills and reading levels. To this end, one group pre-test and post-test experimental design from quantitative methods was used. 10 primary school children aged 6 to 9 years were selected on a voluntary basis by the Migration Services Centre of Kecioren Municipality in Ankara. Supportive language training activities were applied to the children two hours a day a week for a 12-week period. The Turkish Expressive and Receptive Language Test (TIFALDI) and the wordless …

Drama - All Scholarship
This project strengthens the Syracuse University Department of Drama’s ability to document its theatrical productions through high-quality digital photography. With support from the SOURCE grant, the department acquired updated photography equipment that enables students to capture clearer, more accurate images of performances. These photographs document acting, staging, costumes, sets, and lighting in a professional and archival manner.
The Fearless Decision And The Future Of Race-Conscious Charities, Chenglin Liu
The Fearless Decision And The Future Of Race-Conscious Charities, Chenglin Liu
Cleveland State Law Review
Historically, courts tended to differentiate between invidious discrimination against racial minorities and benign discrimination against whites in the context of affirmative action movements. With the social movements galvanized by the conservatives and the change of composition of the Supreme Courts and lower courts, the feasibility of race-conscious measures aimed at helping minorities is substantially reduced. The conservatives’ win in Fearless, coupled with the Trump Administration’s attacks on DEI, have produced a self-censoring effect on charitable organizations. Because of these threats, race-conscious charities will have to modify their practices to become more “inclusive” or face legal challenges from conservatives.

Surviving The Post–Biafran War By Navigating The Igbo People's Igba-Boi Apprenticeship Model Of Entrepreneurship, Chiemela Victor Amaechi, Ugo Pascal Onumonu, Salmia Binti Beddu, Ikechi Mgbeoji
Articles & Book Chapters
After the Nigerian Civil War, the Biafrans started from scratch through trades, mostly adopting the igba-boi apprenticeship system in Nigeria. This paper examines the impact of the igba-boi entrepreneurship system in post-Biafra for the survival of the Igbo identity. Historical–analytical and documentary methods were adopted in this investigation, through primary and secondary sources. This study found different phases of the igba-boi- apprenticeship model, which was adopted in entrepreneurship by the Igbos to survive after the war. This study found that economic towns in Eastern Nigeria, like Aba, Owerri, Enugu, Nnewi, Onitsha and Awka, have enhanced economic development. Also, it found …

Cmsi Translations #24: Accelerating The Development Of (Plan) Marine Corps Combat Capabilities To Win In High End Maritime Warfare, Rear Admiral Zhu Chuansheng
CMSI Translations
At present and for a period into the future, numerous security concerns and threats will persist along China's periphery, in the far seas, and overseas. [China’s] national security threats are primarily at sea, the focal point of military struggle is at sea, and the center of gravity for the expansion of [China’s] national interest is also at sea.3 As the elite amphibious combat force, the PLAN Marine Corps finds its primary theaters of operations in oceans, on islands, and overseas. It must closely monitor maritime and overseas security developments, accurately assess security threats, coordinate maritime and overseas operations, clearly identify …

"It's Really The Support System That Makes It" Expanding Infant-Toddler Child Care Options In New York, Voices From The Field, Mark K. Nagasawa
Straus Institute for Thriving Children & Families
This report discusses findings from a small, exploratory study of early childhood educators' experiences working to expand access to high quality child care for infants and toddlers. Because of who participated in the study, it takes a particular focus on the federally-funded Early Head Start-Child Care Partnership program. The study's contribution lies in surfacing fine-grained policy issues that complicate expansion efforts from the perspectives of professionals who live within a fragmented early care and education (ECE) system every day. This "non-system" (1) makes it difficult to provide continuity of care to children and their families; (2) lacks appropriate space(s) to …

Contemporary Aesthetics (Journal Archive)
In an effort to diversify fictions, many creators use racebending, changing the race of a character from an original fictional work or person from history and incorporating the altered character into a new fictional work. While racebending has been used across many forms of popular media, from comics to musicals, there has been little philosophical attention devoted to it. In what follows, I attempt to fill that gap by discussing the aesthetic value of racebending, its moral value, and how it can be understood on several prominent metaphysical views.
