The Graeme Bell All Stars: Play On, Marco Ianniello Jan 2006

The Graeme Bell All Stars: Play On, Marco Ianniello

Arts Recorded or Rendered Works

In the golden era of Australian jazz, the Graeme Bell Allstars were icons. From touring the globe to hosting their own television show, they captured the world with their music.

Graeme Bell came out of retirement at the age of 88 to reform his band. For over 3 years they enjoyed sold out performances and standing ovations at jazz festivals around Australia, climaxing in one final performance for Graeme's 90th birthday. On tour & at home Graeme & his band reflect on their love of music, their history and their legacy. Accessed from: http://www.nfsa.gov.au/the_collection/

When Linfield music faculty and students occupied the splendid, purpose-built and sound-isolated spaces of the Vivian A. Bull Music Center in August, they realized a dream from as early as 1872 when leaders of McMinnville College first contemplated musical instruction.

Regulatory Reform: The New Lochnerism?, David M. Driesen Jan 2006

Regulatory Reform: The New Lochnerism?, David M. Driesen

College of Law - Faculty Scholarship

This article explores the question of whether contemporary regulatory reformers' attitudes toward government regulation have anything in common with those of the Lochner-era Court. It finds that both groups tend to favor value-neutral law guided by cost-benefit analysis over legislative value choices. Their skepticism toward redistributive legislation reflects shared beliefs that regulation often proves counterproductive in terms of its own objectives, fails demanding tests for rationality, and violates the natural order. This parallelism raises fresh questions about claims of neutrality and heightened rationality that serve as important justifications for modern regulatory reform.

Newly Betwixt And Between: Revising Liminality In The Context Of A Teacher Preparation Program, Alison Cook-Sather Jan 2006

Newly Betwixt And Between: Revising Liminality In The Context Of A Teacher Preparation Program, Alison Cook-Sather

Education Program Faculty Research and Scholarship

Through an analysis of a contemporary rite of passage-the final stage of teacher preparation-I develop a new theory of liminality that both builds on and extends Victor Turner's enduring insights. The analysis focuses on how preservice teachers in an undergraduate education program engage in a process of identity formation within an asynchronous, nondimensional, liminal space made possible and shaped by e-mail and with the support of experienced mentor teachers.
