An Approach To Estimate Object Depth From A Visual Projection Scene For Eye-In-Hand Robot Applications ., Walladin K. Said, Ghassan A. Al-Kindi, Hussam K. Abdulameer
Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering
In this paper, an indirect field-oriented control (IFOC) induction machine drive with a conventional PI and sliding mode controllers is presented. The robustness of ac machine drive speed performance with these controllers is checked in terms of variation of machine parameters. The design includes rotor speed estimation from measured stator terminal Voltages and currents. The estimated speed is used as feedback in an indirect vector control system, such that the speed control is performed without the use of shaft mounted transducers. The high performance of the proposed control schemes under load disturbances is studied via simulation cases. The components of …

Efficient Simulation Of Communication Systems On A Desktop Grid, Raja Sekhar Katuri
Efficient Simulation Of Communication Systems On A Desktop Grid, Raja Sekhar Katuri
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Simulation is an important part of the design cycle of modern communication systems. As communication systems grow more sophisticated, the computational burden of these simulations can become excessive. The need to rapidly bring systems to market generally precludes the use of a single computer, and drives a demand for parallel computation. While this demand could be satisfied by the development of dedicated infrastructure, a more efficient option is to harness the unused computational cycles of underutilized desktop computers located throughout the organization.;In this thesis, a new paradigm for parallelizing communication simulations is proposed and developed. A desktop grid is created …

Robust Estimation Of Mahalanobis Distance In Hyperspectral Images, Eduardo C. Meidunas
Robust Estimation Of Mahalanobis Distance In Hyperspectral Images, Eduardo C. Meidunas
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation develops new estimation methods that fit Johnson distributions and generalized Pareto distributions to hyperspectral Mahalanobis distances. The Johnson distribution fit is optimized using a new method which monitors the second derivative behavior of exceedance probability to mitigate potential outlier effects. This univariate distribution is then used to derive an elliptically contoured multivariate density model for the pixel data. The generalized Pareto distribution models are optimized by a new two-pass method that estimates the tail-index parameter. This method minimizes the mean squared fitting error by correcting parameter values using data distance information from an initial pass. A unique method …

Vacuum Chamber Construction And Contamination Study Of A Micro Pulsed Plasma Thruster, Jacob H. Debevec
Theses and Dissertations
The micro pulsed plasma thruster (micro-PPT) is a simple and versatile electric thruster capable of performing multiple missions, from precise attitude control on standard satellites to primary propulsion for nanosatellites. In order to fill this role as both industry and government move toward utilizing smaller satellites, micro-PPTs first need to be thoroughly tested on the ground. This study examines the deposition profile and rate of particle emission from the thruster so that satellite designers understand any potential contamination issues with sensitive instruments and solar panels. Employing a newly assembled vacuum chamber system, four tests were completed with the micro-PPTs, and …

Virtual teams allow organizations to bring together critical contributors who might not otherwise be able to work together due to time, travel and cost restrictions. In addition, virtual teams can enhance the available pool of resources by including people from outside the sponsoring organization, such as consultants, or members of partner organizations. Virtual teams also allow organizations to hire and retain the best people, who may be either unable or unwilling to relocate, and to facilitate dynamic membership changes as a result of changes in project requirements or the unexpected loss of team members. As such they are sometimes unable …
Ac Conductivity Relaxation Processes In Cacu₃Ti₄O₁₂ Ceramics: Grain Boundary And Domain Boundary Effects, Wei Li, Robert W. Schwartz
Ac Conductivity Relaxation Processes In Cacu₃Ti₄O₁₂ Ceramics: Grain Boundary And Domain Boundary Effects, Wei Li, Robert W. Schwartz
Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
The ac conductivity of CaCu₃Ti₄O₁₂ ceramics associated with electrical charge carrier motion (ions or vacancies) was investigated as a function of frequency at different temperatures. The long range migration of charge carriers within the ceramic is restricted by two kinds of insulating barriers, namely, grain boundaries and domain boundaries. The potential barriers associated with these boundaries lead to two anomalies in conductivity response and three frequency-dependent contributions to conductivity: long range diffusion of carriers, carrier migration localized within grains, and carrier migration localized within domains.

Control Of A Stepping Motor Using Neural Network Predictive ., Hazim I. Ali
Control Of A Stepping Motor Using Neural Network Predictive ., Hazim I. Ali
Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering
In this paper, an application of the neural network predictive controller for stepping motor will be presented. This approach has been considered in order to assure high control performance of the system. The advantage of this type of control with respect to the classical PID controller will be illustrated. In the neural network predictive control approach the model of the system to be controlled is first determined in a system identification phase. The system model is used to predict future behavior of the system, and an optimization algorithm is used to select the control input that optimizes future performance.
Bite Rate And Losses Limitations In Single Mode Fiber ., Ali Y. Fatah, Laith A. Almayhi
Bite Rate And Losses Limitations In Single Mode Fiber ., Ali Y. Fatah, Laith A. Almayhi
Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering
In a WDM system a laser with only one line in its spectrum is needed, so the linewidth of laser must be specified. The required linewidth will depend on the number of channels and bit rate in the proposed system. In general the narrower the linewidth the better but this will usually be a cost/benefit tradeoff. In this paper the limitations of bit rate and losses in single mode fiber are studied, and propose the perfect limitation that is used in the optical design. All simulation was implemented using programs written in MALTAB 7.

Methionine aminopeptidase (MAP) is a ubiquitous, essential enzyme involved in protein N-terminal methionine excision. According to the generally accepted cleavage rules for MAP, this enzyme cleaves all proteins with small side chains on the residue in the second position (P1′), but many exceptions are known. The substrate specificity of Escherichia coli MAP1 was studied in vitro with a large (>120) coherent array of peptides mimicking the natural substrates and kinetically analyzed in detail. Peptides with Val or Thr at P1′ were much less efficiently cleaved than those with Ala, Cys, Gly, Pro, or Ser in this position. Certain residues …

Application Of Advanced Computational Modelling In The Numerical Prediction Of The Haemodynamic Impact Of Coronary Stent Implantation, Jonathan Murphy, Fergal Boyle
Conference Papers
Coronary stent implantation can improve blood flow in an artery narrowed by the build up of arterial plaque. However, the haemodynamic effect of stent placement is unclear and may influence arterial restenosis (re-blockage). In this investigation the stent induced, non-Newtonian blood flow disturbances have been captured in a three dimensional computational domain. The results clearly show areas of low wall shear stress proximal and distal to the stent wires, a characteristic which is known to encourage restenosis. Furthermore, this computational method of observing the complex haemodynamics of the stent environment can be used in conjunction with medical trial data to …

Bulk SrTi O3 is cubic and not expected to exhibit any first-order Raman scattering. However, nanocubes of SrTi O3 with an edge length of 80±10 nm show strong first-order Raman scattering originating from the breaking of symmetry caused by frozen surface dipoles (local tetragonality) and the presence of nanoscopic polar domains (arising from incorporated impurities). Rapid polarization fluctuations within these nanoscopic ferroelectric regions interfere with a polar phonon, resulting in a Fano-like asymmetric line shape in these SrTi O3 nanocubes, as well as in Ca0.3 Sr0.7 Ti O3 nanocubes.

Web Sites are important components of Internet strategy for organizations. This paper develops a theoretical model for understanding the effect of Web site design elements on customer loyalty to a Web site. We show the relevance of the business domain of a Web site to gain a contextual understanding of relative importance of Web site design elements. We use a hierarchical linear modeling approach to model multilevel and cross-level interactions that have not been explicitly considered in previous research. By analyzing, data on more than 12,000 online customer surveys for 43 Web sites in several business domains, we find that …
