An Integral Philosophy And Definition Of Nursing: Implications For A Unifying Meta-Theory Of Nursing, Olga F. Jarrin

School of Nursing Scholarly Works

A unifying meta-theory of nursing is suggested, building from the foundation of Ken Wilber’s AQAL (integral) framework. A definition of nursing as situated caring is presented. Historical discussion of contemporary nursing epistemology and theory are provided for context. Implications for practice, education, and research are discussed. A unifying meta-theory of nursing is needed to most benefit from the diversity in nursing education, practice, theory and research. A unifying meta-theory will enable nurses at both the practical and academic levels to appreciate the complexity and simplicity of nursing, allowing them to articulate confidently what we do and why we do it.

The paper presents estimation of the health losses from urban air pollution in Ukraine. The methodology developed by US EPA and adjusted in Russia for Eastern European transition countries was applied for health risk assessment. PM2.5 was identified as the major source of human health risk, based on experience from the Russian studies. In the absence of reliable computed concentrations of PM2.5, the study was based on monitoring data of total suspended particle (TSP) emissions in Ukraine. Additional cases of mortality and morbidity were calculated based on reporting data on TSP concentration that was recalculated into PM2.5. Then the concentration–response …

Background: Gene duplication events have played a significant role in genome evolution, particularly in plants. Exhaustive searches for all members of a known gene family as well as the identification of new gene families has become increasingly important. Subfunctionalization via changes in regulatory sequences following duplication (adaptive selection) appears to be a common mechanism of evolution in plants and can be accompanied by purifying selection on the coding region. Such negative selection can be detected by a bias toward synonymous over nonsynonymous substitutions. The present invention provides a method for the synthesis of nanowires in a silicon nanoporous template by electrodeposition and a novel technique for the integration of nanowires to transduction surfaces. In accordance with the present invention, a method for the fabrication of nanowire interconnects is provided. The method includes the steps of fabricating substantially vertical nanowires in a selectively passivated nanoporous silicon template, backetching the silicon template to expose the nanowires, eutectically bonding the exposed nanowires to a receiving silicon wafer, and etching the silicon template to produce substantially freestanding nanowire interconnects in contact with the receiving silicon wafer.

Background

Naturally occurring antimicrobial peptides are currently being explored as potential candidate peptide drugs. Since antimicrobial peptides are part of the innate immune system of every living organism, it is possible to discover new candidate peptides using the available genomic and proteomic data. High throughput computational techniques could also be used to virtually scan the entire peptide space for discovering out new candidate antimicrobial peptides.

Result

Determining Multiple Intelligences In The Preschool Aged Child, Jill Elizabeth Capie

Theses and Dissertations

The objective of this research study was to explore whether valid Multiple Intelligence profiles could be created for preschool children. This study was conducted over a three month period and included 16 preschool-aged participants. Research strategies included surveys (teacher, paraprofessional, and parent), naturalistic observations, and participant interviews. There were four key findings in this study. First, the teacher, the paraprofessional, and the parents had differing perceptions about which intelligences were dominant for each participant. Second, participants appear to have multiple, equally dominant intelligences. Third, participant's views related to their own dominant intelligences frequently differed from those reported by the teacher, …
