Time Of Day, Attention, Sleep Quality, And Driving Experience: Possible Moderators Of Age-Related Differences In Driving Performance, Carol L. Bennett
Time Of Day, Attention, Sleep Quality, And Driving Experience: Possible Moderators Of Age-Related Differences In Driving Performance, Carol L. Bennett
Theses and Dissertations
Auto crashes are more likely in the afternoon, and older adults are involved in more crashes later in the day as compared to earlier in the day. Factors that may influence older adult’s driving included visual spatial attention and sleep quality. In addition, circadian preference may also influence driving. The purpose of this study was to evaluate these factors in older adults. This study included younger adults (N= 41, M= 21.6 years) and older adults (N= 40, M= 65.5 years) who were tested between 8 and 10 a.m. or between 3 and 5 p.m. Participants were tested on a computerized …
Hearing Nothing, Brittany Nelson
Hearing Nothing, Brittany Nelson
Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects
Utah State prides itself in its services for students, but recently those services have made negative headlines. Deaf students have filed a lawsuit against the university complaining about the lack of sign language interpreters. But some complain that they are still hearing or seeing no response.
For my Thesis Project, I produced a documentary highlighting the problem both here on our campus, and on a statewide and even nationwide level. I researched the issues, conducted interviews, wrote the script, taped all video and edited the video. The 20 minute documentary was shown publicly on campus in an effort to make …

A Hairy Predicament: The Problem With Long Hair In The 1960s And 1970s, Andrew Robert Herrick
A Hairy Predicament: The Problem With Long Hair In The 1960s And 1970s, Andrew Robert Herrick
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
By the mid-1970s long hair worn by much of the American youth evoked little comment and indeed was considered fashionable. But during much of the previous two decades male hair length was a contentious issue that divided the generations. The struggle over hair in many ways epitomized the sixties generation's challenge to authority and their claim to individual rights. During the era, the meaning of long hair changed dramatically from what it was during the fifties. It began as a symbol of youth culture rebellion linked to music. By the latter part of the sixties, however, it became associated with …

Software Application For Emergency Responders, Safer 2.0, Saritha Reddy Potula
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The SAFER 2.0 was developed as a web based information system for the First Responders involved in dealing with the hazardous materials incidents. The software tool enables First Responders to view and identify the substances involved in a hazard via a secure Internet connection. The tool also aids in identifying the unknown substances based on the physical description (color, odor, texture, gas/liquid, etc.), symptoms and other information available at the site of the incident. The system is based on the 2004 North American Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG2004) and NIOSH Pocket Guide (NPG). ERG2004 was developed for use by firefighters, police, …

Epsdt: Medicaid's Critical But Controversial Benefits Program For Children, Christie Provost Peters
Epsdt: Medicaid's Critical But Controversial Benefits Program For Children, Christie Provost Peters
National Health Policy Forum
The Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) program under Medicaid provides the most comprehensive set of health benefits for children and adolescents in the public or private sector. A cornerstone of early childhood preventive and treatment services in the nation’s health care “safety net,” the EPSDT program serves nearly 30 million low-income children, including children with disabilities and special needs. Over the years, states have expressed frustration with the administrative burdens of EPSDT requirements. Rising Medicaid costs have put all Medicaid benefits, including the EPSDT program, in the budgetary crosshairs. This issue brief reviews the fundamental characteristics of …
