Organizing And Disseminating Information About Creativity: Journal Of Creativebehavior 2002 In Summary, Danielle M. Ohar
Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects
This Master’s project contains an analysis of articles from the Journal of Creative Behavior, 2002. This was the final chapter in a five-year initiative previously analyzed by Bowman-Jones (1999); Moynihan (2001); Noetzel/Schlau (2003); and Carr (2003) for the Journal of Creative Behavior 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001 respectively. Established schema supplied by Feist and Runco (1993) was the structure for data analysis. Data were collected across five domains: Structural Characteristics; Authorship Patterns; Research Methods; Populations Studied; and Issues in Title and Focus. Data were then examined within the journal. An analysis was then conducted across four years of the journal …
The Role Of The Nurse Practitioner In Support Of Families Experiencing Chronic Sorrow, Teresa Ann Wood
The Role Of The Nurse Practitioner In Support Of Families Experiencing Chronic Sorrow, Teresa Ann Wood
MSN Research Projects
Chronic sorrow is the periodic recurrence of permanent, pervasive sadness or other grief-related feelings associated with ongoing disparity resulting from a loss experience (Eakes, 2004). As a concept, chronic sorrow speaks to the emotional strain in the lived experiences of caregivers of the chronically ill and disabled. The term chronic sorrow was first used by Olshansky (1962) to describe the grief and sadness that parents felt when their child was first diagnosed as being mentally retarded. Research on chronic sorrow has proven its presence not only in parents, but in other family members, caregivers, and those with an illness or …

An Evidence Based Practice Perspective Regarding The Role Of The Nurse Practitioner In Men's Health Promotion, Ronald Anthony Perkins
MSN Research Projects
A core concept in society is health. The concept of health can be defined by each individual with qualifiers such as good, bad, reasonable, or poor based on a variety of factors such as age, gender, current conditions, past conditions, or the demands of various roles in society. Health has been defined as, “a state of physical, mental, and social functioning that realizes a person’s potential” (Greiner, Fain, & Edelman, 2002, p. 6). The importance o f health promotion as a concept has been researched and defined throughout history. Early theories on health promotion or disease prevention began by Florence …

Evidence For A Simpatico Self-Schema In Studies Comparing Hispanics And Whites, Renee Holloway
Evidence For A Simpatico Self-Schema In Studies Comparing Hispanics And Whites, Renee Holloway
Psychology Dissertations - Archive
Considerable evidence exists that many Latin American cultures emphasize concept of simpatia or simpatico (Triandis, Martin, Lisansky, & Betancourt, 1984). The purpose of this research project was to test for evidence that Mexican-Americans use a simpatico self-schema more than White Americans do. Study 1 assessed the participants' reported self-schemas using the "Who am I?" paradigm (Gordon, 1968). As predicted, the Hispanic participants reported significantly more simpatico-related terms in their self-descriptions than the White participants. Study 2 also assessed the self-schema of the participants, using a traditional cognitive paradigm (Markus, 1977). However, none of the predicted hypotheses for that study were …
A Qualitative Examination Of The Psychosocial Adjustment Of Khmer Refugees In Three Massachusetts Communities, Leakhena Nou
A Qualitative Examination Of The Psychosocial Adjustment Of Khmer Refugees In Three Massachusetts Communities, Leakhena Nou
Institute for Asian American Studies Publications
This paper uses a sociological stress process model to explore the Khmer adult refugees’ experience in Massachusetts. The analysis is based on the responses of three focus groups in the Khmer communities of Lowell, Lynn, and Revere, Massachusetts. The focus groups provided an in-depth understanding of sources of stress, stress mediators, and psychosocial adjustment/adaptational patterns for Khmer refugees who had experienced the Cambodian genocide. Symptoms and reactions associated with underlying causes of mental health problems had culturally specific relevance to physical illness and mental health.
Using Auditory Evoked Brain Responses To Detect Anxious Vulnerabilities In Neonates., Kyle William Harvison
Using Auditory Evoked Brain Responses To Detect Anxious Vulnerabilities In Neonates., Kyle William Harvison
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Anxiety disorders are prevalent in both adult and child populations, and are associated with significant economic and psychosocial costs. There are clearly familial patterns of transmission within the anxiety disorders, and the inherited risk is likely a non-specific vulnerability toward negative affect, with a biological-environmental interaction leading to specific manifestations within the anxiety disorders. Among the vulnerabilities toward anxiety may be information processing biases that predispose individuals to be more vigilant to novelty, processes that may be specifically associated with the right cerebral hemisphere. The current study utilized auditory event related potentials (ERPs) to explore the degree to which such …

This paper examines three similar cases to the issues in Kososvo that were managed by the international community. By looking at the results of these three cases a decade or more after they began, this paper attempts to shed light on the options for Mitrovica, Kosovo. In order to do this, members of the CTNSP staff traveled to these areas to gather firsthand information relating to this problem.

Rural Independent Living And Physical Therapy: Exploring Collaborations, Craig Ravesloot Ph.D., University Of Montana Rural Institute
Rural Independent Living And Physical Therapy: Exploring Collaborations, Craig Ravesloot Ph.D., University Of Montana Rural Institute
Independent Living and Community Participation
Traditional rehabilitation services are often assumed to be incompatible with independent living (IL) philosophy, but perhaps rural individuals with disabilities might benefit from a collaboration between Centers for independent living (CILs) and rehabilitation services providers. IL philosophy emphasizes improving opportunities for community participation by people with disabilities.1,2 Ecological models of disability emphasize that community participation results when the environment interacts with a person’s capacity to access that environment.3 Participation may increase if environmental accessibility improves, and/or if the individual’s capacity increases. For people with mobility impairments, technology (e.g. wheelchairs) frequently improves individual capacity. Less frequently, changes in a person’s health …

The Impact Of Reading Programs As A Map Project Strategy, Tena Jones
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001 was enacted to protect the United States' most vulnerable students and was signed into law in January 2002 (U.S. Department of Education, 2002). For many years, black, Hispanic, special education, and limited English proficient students were not achieving at the same level as their white, middle-class counterparts because schools were not held accountable for their individual progress. The achievement gap is well documented in previous research at all levels of education. Scores on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) from 1996 to 2000, obtained from a national sample of 8th- …
The Role Of Cingulate Cortex In Spatial Learning And Pain Processing, Rebecca Weaver
The Role Of Cingulate Cortex In Spatial Learning And Pain Processing, Rebecca Weaver
Psychology Theses - Archive
Research implicates the Anterior Cingulate Cortex (ACC) mediates the affective component of pain processing but not spatial learning. The Posterior Cingulate Cortex (PCC) mediates spatial learning but not pain processes. This study investigated the roles of each cortex in spatial learning and pain processing. Lesions were made using standard stereotaxic procedures on 96 animals. Inflammatory condition was induced via carageenan. Animals were randomly assigned between both MPWT and PEAP followed by Morris Swim Test or vice versa in order to prevent an order effect. As hypothesized, ACC lesioned animals resulted in no spatial learning decrement, but showed no avoidance behavior …
Evolution Of Gender Differences In Adult Crying, Carrie Lane
Evolution Of Gender Differences In Adult Crying, Carrie Lane
Psychology Dissertations - Archive
The evolutionary function of gender differences in adult crying was investigated, specifically whether females were selected to cry more than males ostensibly to aid in their survival. Both studies were based on the idea that crying is a signal to others that attention is needed. Study 1 examined how female crying acts as a signal to alert males during a conflict that they have overstepped boundaries, and thus, crying prevents conflict escalation. Study 2 investigated female crying as a signal that requests help and acts as a catalyst in bonding between females, thus strengthening their social networks and increasing their …
Social Familiarity As A Predictor Of Observational Learning In The Domestic Dog (Canis Familiaris), Lana Gent
Social Familiarity As A Predictor Of Observational Learning In The Domestic Dog (Canis Familiaris), Lana Gent
Psychology Dissertations - Archive
Experiments utilizing observational learning in dogs are becoming more frequent, but few investigate the familiarity relationship between model and observer. Two experiments were designed to explore the familiarity relationship between conspecifics and heterospecifics. The first experiment utilized a heterospecific-conspecific training dynamic and the conditions of the experiment varied how familiar (familiar or unfamiliar) observing dogs were to the heterospecific and conspecific models. Forty-eight dogs were assigned to four conditions varying in familiarity of the human demonstrator and model dog. A separate control condition (n=12) were trained with operant techniques and did not receive demonstration or familiarity variables. Analysis of data …

The Differences In Language Arts Performance Between Male And Female Students In American Public Schools, Kenneth E. Wallace
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study was conducted to explore the phenomenon of girls outperforming boys in reading and writing in American public schools. Nine teachers from the suburban Chicago area were studied along with their schools to determine teacher knowledge of the phenomenon, school acknowledgement of the problem, and strategies being utilized or recommended to close the language arts performance gap between girls and boys. Six themes emerged: Schools don't typically focus on student achievement by gender; Teacher knowledge of standardized test performance by gender varies; Student empathy and tolerance is critical; Student reading and writing self-selection improves engagement; Differentiated, thematic teaching with …

Information Asymmetries And The Rights To Exclude, Lior Jacob Strahilevitz
Information Asymmetries And The Rights To Exclude, Lior Jacob Strahilevitz
Michigan Law Review
The American law generally regards the "bundle of rights" as property's dominant metaphor. On this conception of property, ownership empowers an individual to control a particular resource in any number of ways. For example, he may use it, transfer it, exclude others from it, divide it, and perhaps even destroy it. The various rights in the bundle, however, are not equal in terms of importance. To the contrary, American courts and commentators have deemed the "right to exclude" foremost among the property rights, with the Supreme Court characterizing it as the "hallmark of a protected property interest" and leading property …
